Also I’m certain I’m not the only one in this thread who’s stayed here, so it’s not unique I realize. But we had a nice view from breakfast this morning
You will miss a lot of cool stuff so I’d think twice about skipping entirely I actually do think it’s worth it if you’ve never been. But I wouldn’t pay for the audio tour and I’d be sure you get 9 am entrance (unless they’re still doing the nighttime option, which I didn’t look for)
We also did Louvre on one of the evenings it was open late. That was super enjoyable and not crowded at all.
In 2019, Louvre employees went on strike because management was allowing too many people into the museum a day. That’s pretty quintessential French to me.
My personal hero Rick Steves has an express Lourve tour in his book where he gets you to the most interesting stuff on the most efficient route. I think we were in and out in under 2-3 hours. It shouldn’t be skipped, but it is a pain in the ass. Orangerie and Orsay were also terrific
I really enjoyed the Louvre but it's massive and you definitely need a plan. We got lost. Also, don't time travel back to 2004 and bring your 500 CDs case with you in a backpack because you're afraid to leave them at the hostel in case someone wants to steal your 100 Cd collection of Pearl Jam bootlegs and other random grunge and hard rock CDs, which you definitely needed to bring to Paris with you. Your back will hurt later.
You can not do the entire louvre in one visit unless you're a psycho. Pick a wing or two, do the late evening day.
The financial times art critic just came out with top 10 for the louvre https://www.ft.com/content/18f9bf5b-41a8-4865-b031-00c9ac184c2b
Just ate lunch next to Frederick Zoller in Budapest Didn't realize it was him until the waitress asked him who he was
A few countries let strollers/toddlers skip into the elderly/handicap line. It's one of the few perks
Was almost sold here, but gonna skip due to cartel activity all over. Looks cool, but idk about it with a kid and lots of rec of "don't travel at night". Seems a bit much What about Zipolite?
Leaving for Tokyo solo tomorrow, and just kinda winging it (booked this trip about a week ago). All I really have planned are watch shops/areas to hit up and two dinner reservations. Really, really excited and nervous.
7 years ago I did 10 days in Japan solo. My iPhone broke on my first afternoon in Tokyo. There I am at a Tokyo giants baseball game with no clue how to get back to my hostel. Didn’t even know the name of it. Ultimately found a hotel that allowed me to log into my email account on their computer so I could find the name of my hostel. Wrote down a bunch of metro directions and only managed to take the wrong line a few times.
Zipo is 5 min from Mazunte, I was there a lot. Not great surfing in either, but you can have fun. Are you bringing your fam? Zipo is not really family friendly. A lot of naked people, mainly males. It's also the party area, so the evenings get rave-y. Huge LGBTQ+ scene and they love to party. Largely in the nude. It can be fun as shit, tho. If youre looking for chill surf vibes, Zipo ain't it. If youre looking to dance in the sand on some fun drugs with your dingaling danglin, then wame up and do yoga next to a white guy named Artemis with dreads and face tattoos, you'll love it.
Hmm..seemed like some nakedness but not that bad, but a chilly hippy vibe. Was wondering if ppl were hangin wang or just some toplessness. Cabo is an option. Eastern Cape has some good points too.
Mainland Mexico was appealing b/c I think my son is old enough to start enjoying some urban exploration, street food, and Lucha Libre in MXCD...plus it was a short flight after Mexico City.
Much more wang. Much, much more wang. You go to the Sunday Ecstatic Dances and hang wang with them, tho It is a lovely hippy vibe, I spent almost three years in the area. But it's a pretty weird spot. I liked Mazunte a lot better.
I mean, that's advice you'll get pretty much anywhere in Mexico outside of major cities. Obviously not worth going anywhere you'll be uncomfortable in! Mexico is the best you can't go wrong wherever you end up
I made an appointment at a four story Apple Store in Tokyo the next morning. I was lucky in that my iPhone had a recall so I got it replaced for free. Unfortunately, I lost many months worth of travels and pictures.
I had this happen once on a Frankfurt-DFW flight. It was long enough ago that I wasn’t carrying a Kindle or iPad. They announced at the gate before boarding that the entertainment system wasn’t working so I went and bought a book, then had a few cocktails real quick after takeoff and passed out. that movie is going to suck
you had mentioned Zipolite at one point in here not long ago and I read about it. sounds wild. anyway my wife said no
Delta made a whole thing of these fancy personalized metal bag tags they were gonna send out in 4-6 weeks and then in the meantime also sent me the standard plastic ones what a company
I guess we don’t know yet for sure if the metal ones are real or not either way I get to change my gold to platinum so I’ll appear less poor
just behind families and those needing special assistance, veterans, million milers, delta 360, first class, diamond, and however many people from group 5 just walk up and are allowed to board early
It allows you to bring a carry on off of the plane with you even if it costs the lives on non platinum
Everything I hoped it would be and more. In Kyoto tonight and toured the sites all day, got lucky with some beautiful snowy weather.
