Raleigh Native here. Last couple days have finished locking in my Spain trip in April. Will be doing 3 days Madrid, 3 days Seville (doing at least one day trip to Ronda and Setenil, might do one to Cordoba but probably play that one by ear), 2 days Granada, and 3 days Lisbon. I need to go back and refresh myself with suggestions in this thread but any suggestions someone wants to post now off that itinerary are highly appreciated.
If you’re closer to Durham, there are a ton of good unique options in the downtown area between Main, business 15, and Chapel Hill Street. If you’re closer to Raleigh, I got nothing for you other than Angus Barn
Finding out the hard way that three weeks out isn't enough advance time to get Alhambra tickets. Got them, but had to pay extra for a Granada Pass BOOK EARLY
Whelp, that card I linked there is sold out for my dates too, so looks like we are doing a guided tour. That'll be fun and cool but damn, wasn't planning on doing it that way.
Yes that's the one. Granada Pass worked for our schedule when the direct passes through Alhambra were sold out. Didn't realize we'd have this much trouble getting tickets in late March/early April, but I guess this is one of those places where there's no low season
Wagyu Steak Hafuu Honten in Kyoto is probably the best steak I've ever eaten Hachigou in Tokyo is a $10 Michelin star ramen place
thanks! Just booked the wagyu steak place. Not finding Hachigou but will keep looking. Appreciate it!
Also doing a big Japan trip but not until October. Will be looking forward to everyone's thoughts and reviews.
Platinum getting free upgrades to Comfort+ is a nice bonus. Just booked a ~$1,100 flight to St Thomas on a companion pass. Opening up the Caribbean and Central America was a nice change and makes it so much better. Also, Delta revised some profit numbers, so maybe flight prices overall might ease as demand is a little lower. I looked at flights to Europe for this summer and christ....
did sushi here: https://www.tablecheck.com/en/sushi-ichijyo 8 seater, family spoke decent enough english. still dreaming about the food. the chef told me to "bring friends next time" so here ya go.
On a whim taking the East Coast Mainline from Peterborough to Edinburgh in a few weeks over Easter. Mostly because the railroad is basically built on the coast in Scotland and so you get views like this:
Because I am the coolest person in the world my big night out in EDB is going to see the movie Contact at the Edinburgh Planetarium.
JAPAN SUSHI RAMEN quoting and typing search terms for future reference. thanks buds. Seems likely I will be going in the next year or two. potentially making it a ski trip.
Figured there was something going on in Spain for one of the weeks I was there cause it was the only week all tickets for the Alhambra in Granada were sold out. Well, I figured it out, Holy week. I'm not religious at all so didn't even come to mind as something to check on. Seems I got super lucky though as I'll only have Palm Sunday to navigate as we are doing our Alhambra tour on Monday that week and then flying out Tuesday for Lisbon. Lisbon doesn't really do Holy Week from what I can research.
Yeah, during our initial planning we realized that Seville is a fucking madhouse during Holy Week, and we decided we wanted to visit and get home well before all the festivities began. Can't say for certain that it was a tip from Rick Steves, but it probably was
I’ve been in Granada during Holy Week/easter. This was 15 years ago but they had parades every day. What was most surprising to us was the attire. They dress up in robes and hoods like the klan.
I’ll just miss you in Kyoto. I’ll be in Tokyo 4/9-4/12, Hakone 4/12-4/14, Osaka 4/14-4/17, Kyoto 4/17-4/20 and then back to Tokyo for a night before flying home.
Other than hotels and the Panoramic train car from Tokyo to Hakone, not much. We will probably start on tickets to attractions and restaurants this weekend. Would love to hear if there’s some must do or see things in those places from anyone here.
This site - https://www.odakyu.jp/english/romancecar/ the panoramic seats sell out quick (or so the internet told my wife)
The wife and I will be staying in Savannah for a few days in July after visiting family. Where are the can’t miss places to eat?
Collins Quarter, Fitzroy, The Grey, Wyld Dock Bar, Saint Bibiana, and then maybe a Vics on the River or Olde Pink House type spot. Plant Riverside District on the river has some spots too.
I saw those on a Rick Steves episode several years ago and thought ‘A charter member of the klan had been to Spain’. Steves called the costumes “unfortunate”.
Anyone have thoughts on the best/dankest omakase in DC? In order, it seems like Sushi Taro, Nakazawa, and Kappo, but I could be missing something
