There will 100% be a borderline targeting call that will make people lose their heads, no pun intended.

They’ll also either call everything a hold or not call holding all game.

    Alabama does the same thing.

Fun fact. Clarence Thomas spoke at our law school in 2007 before UGA played in Tuscaloosa. He was trying to make a bullshit point about judges being neutral and apolitical (lol) and called on a volunteer. He called on me and asked who my favorite team was and I said UGA. He then asked what type of referees I would want to officiate the game and I responded that I wanted officials that would be stricter calling pass interference. He really didn't have a response.

There have been so many hits I thought were targeting that weren't called for it after review and vice versa that I have no idea what refs will decide on it.

Shockingly subjective calls vary from crew to crew.

It always seems like it's on a routine special teams change of possession or unsuccessful 3rd down where the refs are like "alright, lets fuck the game up."

Or a player clearly catching a pass in bounds, with definitive replay review, and just deciding to stick with the call on field, because why admit you were wrong?

Groundbreaking keys to the game for Georgia

    Offense
    1. Running well enough to keep Bama honest. Doesn't need to be 250 yards but just staying ahead of the chains and converting short yardage.

    2. Beck doesn't make a critical mistake. I expect Bama to get to him a few times. Incomplete passes and punts are fine - turnovers are not.

    Defense:
Limiting designed runs and deep passes. I'm not expecting Georgia to stop Milroe from scrambling or completing intermediate passes, but they can't let em hit the big ones.

I expect us to have minimal success on designed runs unless y’all blow some assignments. Nothing about our ground game is particularly dynamic, we kinda just stick with it because we have to. Jam miller is our most dynamic back, so maybe that changes based on his increased workload.

UPDATE 3 P.M. ET THURSDAY: Knowing this matchup was set even before Week 13, BetMGM put Georgia-Alabama on the board Nov. 20 at Bulldogs -3.5 (-115). The line spent most of last week at Georgia -4.5.

On Monday morning, Georgia climbed to -5/-5.5, then on Tuesday got to -5.5 (-115). This morning, the Bulldogs briefly touched -6, and they're now at -5.5.

"It's one-way traffic on the Bulldogs. Lot of money coming in for Georgia," Magee said. "Sharps pushed this from 4.5 to 5.5 this week. Bama winning the game would be good for the book, but I am still wary of our huge liability on the Tide to win it all.

"The dream scenario right now for BetMGM is a Bama cover and loss, to take the Georgia game money and Alabama futures money."

The total opened at 55.5, fell to 54.5 and 53.5 Wednesday, then rebounded by this morning to 54.5 (Over -115).

UPDATE 2 P.M. ET MONDAY: Alabama (11-1 SU/8-4 ATS) dodged disaster by snatching victory from the jaws of defeat at Auburn. In the final minute, 'Bama trailed 24-20 and faced fourth-and-goal from the 31-yard line – yes, the 31-yard line.

But Jalen Milroe connected with Isaiah Bond in the corner of the end zone for a TD. That gave the Crimson Tide a 27-24 victory, though they fell well short of covering as 13.5-point favorites. Still, 'Bama kept its CFP hopes alive heading into the SEC championship game.

Georgia (12-0 SU/5-7 ATS) is not only seeking the SEC title, but a third straight national championship. The Bulldogs didn't exactly look great in Week 13 either, but got the job done. Kirby Smart's troops fended off Georgia Tech 31-23 laying a hefty 24.5 points on the road.

TwinSpires has moved Georgia-Alabama around a bit in the early going for this matchup in Atlanta. The Bulldogs opened -5, went to -5.5, then returned to -5. Alabama is netting 56% of spread tickets/58% of spread money.

"Early money is on the 'dog," Lucas said.

The total is down a point to 55, with 67% of tickets on the Over/59% of money on the Under.

"Sharp play on Under 56," Lucas said.

    Kenny's Analysis:

Wow! This is definetly a heavyweight title fight. Bama survived the Iron Bowl last week with a last second touchdown pass by Jalen Milroe. Georgia is undefeated once again headed in the SEC Title game but it has been Nick Saban's game going 3-0 versus Kirby Smart. Saban's only loss to Smart was the 2021 season National Championship Game. Both teams have big strong offensive and defensive fronts. The QB's have very similar stats. Give me the points in what looks like a coin flip game to me.

    Jeff's Analysis:
Although the Georgia Bulldogs have a better offense and defense, the Alabama Crimson Tide has a great chance to keep this within the number. Alabama has faced more formidable teams, and a win in this game is crucial for them to make the playoff bracket. My model shows that the Bulldogs will win by five points, so I am happy to take the extra 1.5 and bet on Alabama with the 6.5-point spread.

    Eric's Analysis:
The SEC Championship Game generally produces high-scoring games as 12 of the last 14 have gone over, including the last three where an average of 81 points per game have been scored. Alabama is 8-0 to the Over in these title games and is 7-0-1 to the Over in their last eight games in 2023. Let's ride the wave, though I think Georgia finds a way to remain unbeaten. Georgia 34, Alabama 27.

    Matt's Analysis:
Don't know about you, but I'm getting a little tired of this matchup. Georgia's defense gets all the hype, but that Carson Beck-led offense has scored at least 30 points in seven straight games. Meanwhile, Tide leading rusher Jase McClellan is questionable because of a left foot injury suffered in Saturday's miracle win at Auburn. UGA kept some key players out for Saturday's win at Georgia Tech (like Brock Bowers), but that was to simply ensure they were ready for this one.

Considering we’re playing you guys they won’t call a hold all game, on either side. Plus I can’t remember the last time we got a holding call for us. The OSU game was terrible on both sides with basically nothing called

Other than my shitty spelling I don't think so. I guess Texas by default if Bama wins. I just think these guys who play sharps on the internet come up with the stupidest reasons to justify their picks that they probably don't feel strongly on but need to produce content.

This has been too friendly this week, so I'll go ahead and throw the first bomb.

We should win this game. We're not head and shoulders better than Alabama or anything and they're a very good team. Games are won due to all kinds of factors like good fortune, excellent timing, untimely mistakes, etc. and I don't think we can play a C game and beat them or anything crazy like that. We've certainly played like crap at various points of the season, and if we have a performance like that we will lose.

But I do think we have better the players, coaches, player development, and program in 2023. It's not an overwhelming margin, but I believe it's there. We've done better against common opponents. I think Alabama has looked pretty mediocre (by their lofty standards) all season. I can't think of a single game in which they looked fantastic and dominated their opponent from beginning to end.

We should win and cover. No idea if we will.

That was a bomb? I think most Bama fans would agree with almost all of this. Most of us expected 3 losses or more after the Texas game. We're just happy to be here. We're the overachieving underdog this year, kinda fun tbh.

But you're still UGA and this is still Bama in Atlanta so you'll find a way to step on your dick.

    Roll Tide.
