the last two pages of the Biden thread have been flooded with insurance talk so I wanted to split it out and start a thread dedicated to Americas most exciting and honest industry there are a fair number of insurance professionals on this site as it turns out. we are all wonderful human beings, and are happy to read your rants about insurance or answer insurance questions that’s right folks it’s the thread you legally have to purchase, enjoy
here are some of the most common questions I get about my career in insurance “How do you sleep at night?” Great question and it’s a difficult answer because obviously my job involves robbing people blind all day every day, but the short answer is I sleep quite comfortably on a very nice king bed in the suburbs “My uncle was murdered by his insurance adjuster in cold blood, was that you?” probably not “why are my premiums high?” Inflation and climate change “did I get screwed on my claim?” only to the extent it’s allowed in the policy
my first day on the job they trained us how to reach into the pockets of the elderly and impoverished and take money from their wallets. it’s a tough racket
I haven't had health, dental, car, or any real* insurance for 2+ years. Fuck the system. GFA being a stan for #BIGINSURANCE is sad and tragic. * Spoiler I have a policy protecting my real estate assets because I still want to profit from the system
Why are Flo from Progressive and Jake from State Farm the 2 most annoying ad campaigns on TV currently?
Alabama. I had a claim on some fire damage that settled over a year ago so no idea why they’d be increasing the costs now over that
rates are generally going up pretty much everywhere because of insane construction inflation since covid, so could just be your carrier trying to catch up to that. if your claim was over a year it’s not because of that. your carrier may be trying to shrink in your area too. either way I’d shop around and see if a competitor has a better rate. I highly recommend a broker who shops your policies regularly — insurers do not reward loyalty so don’t give it to them
My father in law has a rural property in Texas with a very expensive barn and an unfinished house on it. They park their RV on this property for part of the year, but it is not their primary residence. He told me he has been unable to find an insurance company who will cover the property, so he’s just been going without. It’s about an hour from the coast. Does anyone know of a company who provides coverage on this type of property?
the ad spend by the industry is gross to me, my personal opinion is they’re mostly all spending billions for ads that do nothing to sell insurance
GoodForAnother would you say you get more joy from denying coverage to families or individuals? I’ll hang up and listen.
real talk, between my 12 years as an adjuster and in leadership with untold thousands of claims under my purview, I denied one non-flood claim in total and it was fraud where we had video evidence. it’s much more rare than the public likely thinks.
The founders of this site would be a popsicle conman and an insurance guy but at least the insurance guy is cool
About a year ago I had my only first party homeowner’s insurance case where the Plaintiff was claiming like $250k in damage to his home. Come to find out he made nearly identical water damage claims before (and received compensation) and also lied on his insurance application about things such as his home not being in foreclosure, though a foreclosure action was initiated about 4 month before the property action. It went away rather quickly.
Oh prob, I did personal lines auto and home, mostly catastrophe response. don’t do primary claims anymore tho
Just switched Home and Auto and saved myself $3k. Just received a renewal quote from the old provider and they wanted to increase my rates by $1800. Not sure how they plan on staying in business charging people that much.
Man I’ve never had an issue with my insurance or having a claim approved. My agent also shops my business every year amongst his companies he works with to make sure I have the best possible rate.
The ol shit handle. The trick is to get it up behind the handle so the opener can’t see anything out of the ordinary. Then they get shit up in their fingernails and they have to scrape it out and giver the sniff test to make sure it’s all gone. It’s a good move.
what are some tips and tricks for getting a new roof? basically what i’m asking is walk me through committing fraud.
It’s hell 85% of the time and the other 15% is waiting for hell to return. Preaching to the choir etc etc
you have to be insane to do that job for too long, generally I’m very happy with my career in insurance but day to day claims handling will burn you out eventually
Have you had it checked for hail or tree limb damage? If not you’ll need a helicopter and 5,000 marbles
