Personally, accessory, and typically more of the straight leg variety. I have mixed in some deficit pulls on the back end of a DL session at some lighter weight but lean toward the former
I use them as a low back accessory. Some people may use them as a leg accessory, but my leverages and my box height make it low back work. I would definitely go heavier than 50-60% on them. I typically aim for sets of 5-6 in the 80% range.
Had a couple issues with Rogue shipping. They sent me all the bumpers and one had the huge gash. They sent another one promptly. That one had severe intentions from the staples of the box. Went back and looked at the other bumpers and two others also had indentions, but not nearly as bad. My rack uprights arrived with some powder coating chipping off three of the feet. Sent Rogue an email last night and they responded today. They are giving me $50 credit for the uprights and also offered the touch up paint to fix it. They offered to replace all three bumpers (not including the initial bad one... so 4 total) or provide a credit. They didn't specify the amount, but I have heard I should expect around $50 each. I am definitely going to be returning the replacement bumper for a second replacement since it was bad. If I can get $50 each on the other two, I will accept them and take the credit and use the total $150 to buy the multigrip crossmember for my rack for additional stability and more diverse pull-up options. In general, everything you have probably read about Rogue customer service is true. They have been great, friendly, and they have demonstrated a willingness to make things right every time. Here is a pic of the replacement I received that I will be for sure replacing again:
This week has been delightful for me. 3 rep front squat at 195 on Tuesday. 8 rep back squat at 195 on Thursday. Definite progress. Goals for 2017: 300 lb back squat 265 lb front squat 400 lb deadlift 225 lb clean
That's p sexy. I've love to be able to build something out like this if I had room. What's your overall cost? Should've gotten those plates in kgs
Thanks, dude. Total cost was around $3k with everything, including all the DIY materials. I thought about getting KG, but just didn't see the point since I will have bars in pounds and this is America.
the power bar I wanted in the KG version has a much smaller collar, which greatly increases the risks of banging the plates against the rack and throwing yourself off on unrack and rerack. Plus all the specialty bars I will eventually purchase are in lbs (they don't offer KG) and they aren't 45 for an easier conversion. They are 35, 55, 65, etc...
Actually came to ask about getting a new knee support. In a drunken Amazon order spree last night, where I have no regrets, I ordered a Rehband compression knee sleeve. Excited to try it out
Did you order two? IIRC, rehband sells by the single. If you're going to wear a sleeve on one, might as well wear them on both.
Only bought one. Debated if i should just wear on both or not. I have one bad knee but makes sense to get another as I write this so i will
3 weeks of training left. Heavy 4s this week, openers next week, second attempts the week after then a deload and a massage meet week. "It's Money Time" - Ray Williams -Capstone 88
I don't think it's a shit product at all. They're some of the nicest bumpers on the market. If it was more than a shipping issue I would agree, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it could be UPS and see how it arrives next time. The other bumpers I received are awesome. Rogue is letting me use the messed up ones as much as I want until the new ones arrive too, which is nice.
Had to buy some change plates. Couldn't increase incrementally. I don't know why I didn't purchase them from the get go. Also got a rolling plate tree and a band/belt holder.
We have 4 old hundies and they are great. You just can't find them anywhere. Plus, the best 'beater bars' in the world are the old York bars.
The old split sleeve Yorks are awesome. My old gym had one and it was high quality. Probably 20+ years old and straight as an arrow.
I may be remembering incorrectly, but weren't you going to try your own version of Alex Viada's 7s? How'd that go?
Yeah, the old split sleeves are the best. If anyone ever drives through York, PA, you can usually stop in at the old York headquarters and buy some old split sleeve York bars for like a $100. You will have to do a roll test or 2 as some are slightly bent but @ $100 for an old York bar and a piece of barbell history..totally worth it.
That's me...3 kids and a demanding job have cut into my gym time over the past year and I was actually going for the 6s but then smashed 2 toes when someone dropped a 25lb plate from shoulder height onto them. As my weight decreased from around 260 to 235 or so, my squat took a complete nosedive. 6 minute mile and the 600 pull are doable for me at pretty much any weight I'm at with training...squat is definitely the hurdle. I attempted it once and ran 5:55, pulled an even 6 and could only squat 515...failed at 535 and then I broke my toes a few weeks later. I'm 40 now and 6-6" so I'm going to have to really dial in my weight and squat training to do it but I'll keep trying.
I liked the freedom around the thigh, but didn't like how tight it was around the ankle. I rock the straight fit.
My compression socks just came in, stoked to wear them. Also bought plantar fascitis socks since i have it in one foot. Going to see how it helps today at the gym. Waiting on my knee compression sleeves, and bought a second one just to have them on both knees and not just the one bad one.
Got some rings for the rack to do some dips, pull ups, body rows, push ups, etc... I am so incredibly weak its sickening. It will be a long climb back, but I'm going to purposely take it slow. I'm still dealing with this QL issue, but it's slowly getting better with each session with the doc. We are trying new things that seem to be working well.
Seems like this set me up well for December as I hit 100kg today to close out the year! Had a good week of PRs to establish some baselines going into 2017: 300# front squat, 335# back squat, 180# snatch. I'm excited to test my deadlift next week. I've been doing the Hatch Squat program and love it.
Alright, getting a squat/bench rack for my exercise room so I don't have to go to the gym anymore. Every new year the first few months are miserable, and I can save the money on a membership and basically pay for the equipment. It's a smallish room (12x12?). I'll be working out alone for the most part. Looking at a few options, both new and used. What do y'all think of the below options for racks/cages? After that I have to figure out buying a bar and weights. http://www.roguefitness.com/sml-1-rogue-70-monster-lite-squat-stand https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/sgd/5934359829.html https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/sgd/5918919051.html
It depends on what your plans are regarding a lifting surface. Are you planning on building a platform? If you are, I would strongly recommend a rack. Check out the Titan T3 Power Rack, which is in my opinion one of the best racks out there for that price point. It needs to be bolted down though, so if you're not bolting into a platform or to concrete, you won't be able to use it. If you're not able to bolt it down, I would recommend the Rogue over the other squat stands you linked. If you're trying to save a bit of money, check out the Titan T-3 Squat Rack. You would need to buy the spotter arms separately (same with Rogue). The Rogue rack is a better piece of equipment, IMO, but the Titan is a quality piece as well at a good price. http://www.titan.fitness/squat-rack.html http://www.titan.fitness/spotter-arms-for-hd-power-rack.html Congrats on starting up a home gym - you won't look back. What is your general budget (doesn't have to be a number, but just a general direction... e.g. buying on a budget or 'fuck it, spare no expense')? I can help you with some ideas on bars, plates, etc...
