Yea I know right universal healthcare, good schools, a judicial system that believes in rehabilitation instead of profit, generally happy people just you know a European socialist hellhole
If that’s for you go for it. Reality includes a lot more details. It’s weird though, I don’t see or hear about a ton of Americans leaving for those countries.
No surprise on Ny, NJ or other high tax states. They have a legitimate gripe. Unfortunately for them majority rules.
Yes, but people of color also get to benefit from that system and that is unacceptable to people like tmbrules, don’t forget he voted to fuck his own kid over because Trump is going to make it acceptable to be openly racist.
It will be interesting to see how the Nordic nations handle the migration into their countries. Will be interesting to see if they can continue to provide the same amount of benefits with a lot more people on the payroll. So far the whole assimilation thing doesn’t appear to be going well.
Actually, I'm at my office right now. Inequality like we're seeing right now is very harmful. It leads to a corrupt political system, where the government only works for the people spending huge amounts of money to get laws passed in their favor so they can further loot the country. Think about this. Payroll taxes, which are paid by people earning paychecks, start on the very first dollar of earnings and are taxed at 15.3%. There's no progressive system where the rich pay more, in fact, the rate drops down to 2.9% after $127,000. There's been 3 Trillion dollars more collected in payroll taxes than have been spent on the programs it supposedly funds. Let's call these the middle class taxes. On the other hand, you have income taxes, which are progressive in that the rate goes up as income increases. There's been 20 Trillion dollars less collected in income taxes than have been spent on the programs it supposedly funds. These are the taxes on the "rich."
Immigration is great for a county and makes everyone in the country richer, even more so in a high productivity country like the US.
But the rich do pay more. It may not be progressive, but that doesn’t mean that the rich people pay less. So they pay more in payroll taxes, and they pay more in income taxes. Are you complaining of loopholes? I would agree that is a major problem. Not many rich people pay close to the advertised rates.
Legal immigration. The kind Donald Trump wants. I could be wrong, but I don’t think that’s the type of immigration the Nordics are getting right now.
I listened to an interview with someone recently who talked about this, and basically, there was no short-term effect, and long-term it's a good thing. I couldn't find it, but I did find this interview from a few years ago that basically says the same thing Now imagine if we actually tried to help them get jobs and assimilate and not shun them to where they live in fear - immigration is a good thing. Trickle down economics is dumb, it doesn't work, instead of giving tax cuts to the rich in hopes of them trickling down money, lets help get the money directly to the middle and working class.
Baby boomers had it so fucking good. Then they manage to systematically fuck up the economy and the planet all while shitting on future generations for not thriving like they did.
Does anyone know what the deal is as far as the "budget" that was passed? Specifically, do the changes to student loans that trump wanted go into effect in 2018 or was this just a continuation of the status quo plus allowing reconciliation on tax cuts?
That's because the entire immigration argument is about racism. That's literally it. There is no economic anxiety, it's just republicans finally being told it's ok to openly and loudly embrace racism.
