Regolizio told the jury most of his customers paid by credit card, but Manafort paid with wire transfers. He said only one other of his clients paid with wire transfers and those transfers were from within the United States. Manafort spent a total of about $450,000 on the landscaping and the money originated from accounts in Cyprus.
I agree. Political experience used to be important part of the job. Not so much anymore with the Trump GOP. Even before with McConnell using every dirty trick possible. Schumer/Pelosi continue to smile while being fucked. We need leaders that can check these assholes while holding the party together/accountable. Manchin basically told Schumer to fuck off. I have zero doubt he will confirm Kavanaugh. No way that should happen. That wouldn’t happen with anyone in the GOP that isn’t retiring. We really need representation that can fight in the current climate. It can’t be that hard. The GOP is still doing the same exact economic policies since before most of the people on this board were born. Cut taxes for the wealthy, blindly roll back regulation, and always forget to cut back on spending. The only time the GOP is fiscally can conservative is when a Democrat is in the White House. Paul Ryan challenged everything Obama did, but nothing Trump does. 83% of the tax cut went to the 1%. Trump planning another 100 Billion tax cut. Every ad should mention the tax theft. Push Medicare for all. Even the Koch bros studies find that it will be cheaper. If the GOP talks about socialism we need to respond with Corporate welfare. Like the 12 Billion to farmers because of Trumps stupid tariffs. Trump’s entire cabinet is profiting from his administration. He continually violates the emoluments clause with every golf trip. Every ad should also feature tax theft, Child theft, the GOP is allowing our country/democracy to be attacked by Russia. They continue to do nothing. They have so much ammunition to go in on the GOP raw. If the Democratic Party leadership wastes this opportunity it will set back this country decades. /rant.
HOU has no public transportation because its the energy capital of the world and it makes business sense to keep as much of your product consumed as possible. https://www.chron.com/news/transpor...g-Metro-again-in-federal-transit-11280490.php
its been years and years of libertarian type special interest funded PR battles, poisoning public opinion to reach that status. 100 yrs ago - a trolley or street train was the preferred mode of transit. Then even the Bus was popular in the age of the automobile. Society was killed by special interests forcing the addiction to the car. Koch dark money is going around to muncipality after municipality to drum up opposition to any and all transit initiative. It worked in Nashville recently. They just got Gwinnett County Georgia commissioners to delay their Transit vote until March, when it couldve happened in November, just so the chances of passing can be diminished.
sure, maybe houston is an outlier most other cities deal with people in the burbs killing ballot initiatives to expand the reach or funding for transit. they also deal with that same demographic coming to city council meetings screaming about how a train station in their 'burb will increase crime rates. this is a broad constant whenever you read about these things in basically any city.
This tangent probably deserves its own thread. They are rat poison, pulling strings the public can't see, to fund their interests. Their family story is disgusting in and of itself. But regarding "resistance" to Trump
Guys, if we make more efficient means of transport, people will want to use them exponentially more and we’ll put off way more carbon emissions, polluting the atmosphere and trapping the suns rays in a bubble that encompasses Earth. Do we really want to bake ourselves alive?
Orlando just completed the 2nd leg expansion of the local light rail. Spans 3 counties and somehow mostly works. Next phase is supposed to go to the airport where they already built the station. Amazing what a Dem mayor can accomplish (with the help of 100s of millions in tourist taxes).
WTG MN Cause of 911 call disruption remains a mystery Service across much of Minnesota was knocked out for about an hour. By Mary Lynn Smith Star Tribune August 2, 2018 — 12:08am Authorities were working late Wednesday to uncover the cause of an hourlong 911 service failure across Minnesota. The widespread disruption knocked out emergency lines to first responders in cities, county sheriffs’ offices and at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Dozens of public safety agencies hastily posted alternative emergency numbers on social media. Some agencies said the disruption primarily affected calls from landlines... Spoiler As of late Wednesday, there were no reports of people going without emergency help during the disruption. “To my knowledge, there were no issues getting [through to] first responders,” said Jon Collins, spokesman for the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. CenturyLink issued a one-sentence statement saying that the cause for the failure remains under investigation. Widespread 911 outages are rare. In 2015, CenturyLink was slapped with a $16 million fine for a previous 911 failure in Minnesota and other states. For more than six hours in April 2014, 11 million CenturyLink, Intrado Communications and Verizon customers in seven states could not reach emergency call centers, according to the Federal Communications Commission. Penalties were issued because the failure did not stem from a natural disaster or other unforeseeable catastrophe. That disruption resulted in 6,600 missed 911 calls, including emergency calls about domestic violence, assault, auto accidents, a heart attack, an overdose and an intruder breaking into a home. After being fined, CenturyLink issued a statement saying, “This outage was caused by a third-party vendor’s equipment failure that had never occurred before, and we worked with the vendor to implement measures to ensure that this type of failure will not happen again.”
Any chance it ever goes E/W to UCF? That way I could fly in ride to downtown to my hotel and then never have to rent a car?
This was an interesting glimpse into their strategies/interests. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/19/climate/koch-brothers-public-transit.html
Tweet about the Russian journalists murdered while doing a documentary on Russian military contractors in Africa. Breaking News: Laura Ingraham is a lying POS.
Now that conservatives are in bikinis, liberals are going to have to go full frontal to stay progressive IMO
This is so damn Trumpy. A Canadian "singer" who was in this video is now full MAGA. Money chasers are so shameless.
from DK Trump's base mindset/cult and the Dunning-Kruger effect Wednesday August 01, 2018 · 6:40 PM CDT Ignorance, racism, theocracy on steroids Many have been proposing that Trump’s base is like a cult since before that day in November 2016. A personality cult? For some. A religious cult? Some fundies think he was sent by G.d. His personality cult went on steroids when he started leading the birtherism movement back in 2011 as you can see in this toxic The View video where he also hinted at running. The November midterms are a pivotal moment in our history as the battles of Yorktown, Gettysburg and Midway were. When you go into battle it helps to understand your enemy, both its capabilities and its mindset... Spoiler Blue Oyster Cult I am not a psychologist, far from it, but I look around. I started looking around when Scientology tried to recruit me back in 1976. I was a programmer in a tech company. I did not know my boss was one of them. As time passed one by one my fellow programmers started becoming Scientologists. So I got a copy of Dianetics and read it. I was shocked. I looked around some more and I came across a book on brainwashing, cults and deprogramming. I needed my job so I came up with a plan. I bought a poster of Blue Oyster Cult and pinned it on my cubicle. Whenever one of the converted came to invite me I just told them that I belonged to a cult already. It worked. Thankfully I soon got another job. 35 years later, I got into a live-in relationship that lasted 5 years with an actress (who an ex-Kossack introduced me to) that had escaped from Scientology, a harrowing escape that can be googled. During this time, I sold a very significant computer system to Scientology while I managed to hide my relationship with her from them. But I did have to attend their annual meeting where I was the only non-Scientologist in a VIP box. Scientology annual meeting Over the years I have learned a lot about cults and not just Scientology. One of the things I realized is that actors and computer programmers are the key targets of scientology. Programmers have high IQs and general knowledge but typically low EQs (emotional quotient) on the average and many feel disconnected with society. Actors are the antithesis of programmers, with high EQs but low general knowledge, again on the average. As a computer geek who has lived near Hollywood for decades I know this. No wonder Scientology targets actors and geeks. Recently, in the Twitter feed of another ex-Kossack I stumbled on this article; A Neuroscientist Explains How Trump Supporters Are Easily Hoodwinked Because of This One Psychological Problem In the past, some prominent psychologists have explained President Donald Trump’s unwavering support by alluding to a well-established psychological phenomenon known as the “Dunning-Kruger effect.” The effect is a type of cognitive bias, where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they don’t have enough knowledge to know they don’t have enough knowledge. Or, stated more harshly, they are “too dumb to know they are dumb.” This simple but loopy concept has been demonstrated dozens of times in well-controlled psychology studies and in a variety of contexts. However, until now, the effect had not been studied in one of the most obvious and important realms—political knowledge. Hoodwinked is not brainwashed, but if you are hoodwinked every day you will be brainwashed unless you know you are being hoodwinked. That is what Faux News and others ranging from Alex Jones to Rush Limbaugh in right-wing media do to them every day. This is the key graphic that explains the Dunning-Kruger effect; Dunning-Kruger effect A new study published in the journal Political Psychology, carried out by the political scientist Ian Anson at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, not only found that the Dunning-Kruger effect applies to politics, it also appears to be exacerbated when partisan identities are made more salient. In other words, those who score low on political knowledge tend to overestimate their expertise even more when greater emphasis is placed on political affiliation. … While the results of Anson’s study suggest that being uninformed leads to overconfidence across the political spectrum, studies have shown that Democrats now tend to be generally more educated than Republicans, making the latter more vulnerable to the Dunning-Kruger effect. In fact, a Pew Research Center poll released in March of this year found that 54 percent of college graduates identified as Democrats or leaned Democratic, compared to 39 percent who identified or leaned Republican. Perhaps this helps explain why Trump supporters seem to be so easily tricked into believing obvious falsehoods when their leader delivers his “alternative facts” sprinkled with language designed to activate partisan identities. Because they lack knowledge but are confident that they do not, they are less likely than others to actually fact-check the claims that the President makes. This blog connects someone’s experience in a cult with Dunning-Kruger; Coming to Grips with my 30 Years in a Cult. The Dunning-Kruger Effect Clearly, this was (and is) a problem among cult members. How could I know what I didn't know? This, of course, was exacerbated by the confirmation bias, as I accepted information that confirmed my beliefs, interpreted ambiguous information as confirming my beliefs, and rationalized away any information that might threaten my beliefs. This accumulation of false and misinterpreted information only served to strengthen my confidence in my faith. Considering all this, it's a wonder anyone can leave such a group. Thankfully, I did, but that story is yet to come. Trump and L. Ron Hubbard So, less educated or less knowledgeable people have become the main target for the Trump machine (and it is a machine with a plan, as I will diary soon). We are dealing with a Trump base that has been brainwashed over the years and now has become a cult. Trump is their L. Ron Hubbard. We need to win in November and certainly in 2020 and then we need to deprogram this Trump cult. We can do it but we need to understand what we are dealing with. ____________ UPDATE ____________ Thanks to voidstuff; The Psychological Quirk That Explains Why You Love Donald Trump Written by Dunning himself back in May 2016.
given that it paints him in a positive light, is there any doubt that if trump was briefed on the particulars of the Qanon theory he would absolutely believe it?
Trump could easily be convinced that he’s Q and would desperately wait for the next breadcrumbs from himself.
