massive for the Dems chances, Raphael Warnock against Doug Collins. potential for 2 senate seats to be up for grabs in January 2021. Abrams steering get out the vote From a Left perspective there is no difference in the Loeffler lady Brian Kemp appointed and Collins. They will vote the exact same way 100% of the time, lock step with GOP. Erosion of our institutions while bowing loyalty to Trumpism. Loeffler hadnt been on the job for 3 weeks and is already screaming Mitt Romney is a leftist and violating her oath to be an impartial juror.
Talk about a catch-22: Let Bolton sell his book but not testify or blab to the media, or eliminate financial gain and potentially piss him off to the point where he goes full scorched earth in the media?
Had to like, unlike, re-like, and then run a cold shower at the hint of Lindsey Graham getting muddied by Lev.
Wow, a company that failed and had to be bailed out by the government so it didn't destroy America backs a failed businessman whose only real act as POTUS was to pass a tax cut that saved them billions? You don't say?
Goldman didn’t fail and only took public money because they were forced to, like every bank. If you are going to hate, at least be right. Goldman were the guys that shorted the housing crisis in a way that netted out their long positions so they didn’t lose any money. The public outcry was that they continued to sell junk bonds to the public while at the same time shorting them in other arenas.
Oh sorry, didn't mean to offend Goldman and their wonderful sensibilities. Please replace the seventh word from had to needed and apologize to everyone there for me thinking they are fucking monsters.
So the future dem President will be able to sanction businesses and withhold aid to investigate political opponents, and they can also withhold federal money for states to investigate senators and congressional members? Because maybe we just scorch the earth, tip every branch of government, and erase the last 10 years of the GOP from the record.
we bitch all the time about factual inaccuracy and misleading statements that come from GOP politicians, they are dangerous Just people helping people man - now you do know what you are talking about when you slander Goldman.
Even if this is the case, wouldn't that mean that Trump's entire defense was a lie? If they all tried to remove clinton for lying about a blowjob, you'd think lying about the use of congressionally approved funds would be as bad. You'd think.
Schiff is just going to keep going in dry on Trump's weasel legal team. Not that it will matter, the GOP Senators just keep moving the goalposts and hide behind "doesn't rise to the level of impeachment" argument. They should all be beaten with a bat and thrown in a hole alive, then buried.
So far it's pretty clear the GOP senators are looking for a legal technicality excuse to acquit and ignore all evidence of what actually happened.
from dk The hugely damaging ramifications of the Republicans’ impeachment position is simple to understand. Spoiler President Trump has been impeached for asking and pressuring a foreign country to interfere in our next election in his favor. Many Republican Senators have made it clear that they want to acquit Trump and further to exonerate him by saying that Trump did “nothing wrong.” Much of the Democratic opposition and some in the press rightly warn that outright condoning such conduct will only invite President Trump (and future presidents) to increasingly seek foreign interference in our elections. But this warning gravely understates the actual ramifications. If the Republican Senate were to absolve or condone Trump’s conduct, then all future presidential candidates, and lower office candidates, will start canvassing foreign countries to solicit interference on their behalf in our elections. After all, if that conduct is not wrong, and if one can expect your opponent (Trump or anyone else) to be availing themselves of this advantage . . . well, then, you would do it too. Indeed, one might practically need to do so. And so, in short order, all major candidates will be soliciting foreign help and interference in our elections. (As well, logically, as cabinet-level nominees seeking appointment and power.) The result would be an extraordinarily damaging revolution in our elections and democracy. Most incumbents and challengers, and at varying elective levels, presumably will be seeking foreign assistance and interference (and often like Trump, secretly). Properly understood then, the Republican notion of exonerating President Trump must be understood as a watershed event as significant and debilitating as the Citizens United decision allowing “dark money,” billion dollar interests to dominate our politics. Like with Citizens United, this would fundamentally change the rules-of-the-road not just for Trump, but for all future campaigns — with equal or significantly more disastrous effects. This simple fact - that this will not be limited to President Trump - establishes the plain inanity and danger of the approach advocated by far too many Republican senators. It would trample upon - indeed, obliterate - the foremost concern (and established protections) of the Founders: corruption of democratic government by the intrigue and interests of foreign states and actors: These Americans [the “Founders”] understood that allowing a foreign adversary to determine the outcome of elections would mean the death of their experiment in democracy. Without integrity in elections, there could be no legitimate representation in government. In short, this isn’t simply about whether Trump maddeningly escapes accountability. This is about whether our democracy is imperiled and fundamentally changed, and whether we casually allow the careful work of the Founders to be tossed aside merely to protect the venal, parochial interests of a man like Donald Trump.
their arguments are absurd. WH counsel basically just said the president can pursue any policy he wants for whatever reason
he's 100X better than anyone the dems have, but they can't let this be spun into Schiff versus the POTUS (any more than it already is).
The projection about timeline from the GOP is amazing considering their push to get this done before the caucuses.
more total bullshit from the WH counsel. "why didn't the House challenge our blatant and unprecedented obstruction and contempt of Congress in court (and get everything tied up for years) instead of using their authority granted under the Constitution?"
