From all reports, their shields said "military police." I suppose it's possible the people behind those shields weren't MPs, but you'd think they wouldn't let some other law enforcement agency use their name to conduct an unnecessary show of excessive force against lawfully protesting US citizens.
There were also a ton of federalized NG out one DC last night. but oh, the Pentagon is “concerned” about these deployments :(
Is that Hitler photo real? I know Dear Leader is a big ol dummy, but I think he knows what he's doing when he's taking that church picture and quoting Walter Headly and George Wallace.
And by "knows what he's doing" he knows he's following in the footsteps of segregationists; he idolizes them.
bwi2 I know governors have to request the military, but is there anyway Donnie can send them in on his own?
Only if civil liberties are being violated (forced school integration in the south). If he contrives some bullshit excuse to literally invade sovereign states....oh boy.
Yep. Just saw that there were some MP shields along with the regular police. The mayor called in the DC National Guard to assist the police. The National Guard does typically have a very different mission than the regular military but you're still correct. It's fucked up and I was wrong with what I said before.
Pretty impressed with the early returns on my SM feeds for #blackouttuesday. A lot of white folks that I wouldn't expect to participate. I hope it also tweaks Candace Owen that they're calling it a "blackout"
Sure it did. It entrenched white landowning men as the dominant power in America for more than two centuries
The Insurrection Act authorizes deployment of the military domestically. That’s at least a non-outrageous basis to deploy troops under federal authority (although I don’t think that authority applies even for the worst of the violence). There is zero basis - none - for using troops to disperse a lawful assembly like the Lafayette Square protest yesterday pre-curfew. There isn’t even a basis for the use of force by routine law enforcement there.
Let’s all imagine what Fox News and #2A aholes would be saying today if Obama did that yesterday. Then let’s scream into the abyss.
No, but the next Attorney General ought to take a hard look at whether everyone who carried out the park clearance deserves indemnification from the violation of civil rights lawsuits that are forthcoming.
Anyone who followed Pete’s campaign knows the name Eric Logan. Black guy gunned down by a cop in SB. I work with his daughter. Her explaining how her rage grew as she peacefully marched this past weekend to the point that she wanted to destroy the police station made it so clear. I wish more people would listen and understand where this comes from. Truly enlightening.
I ask, because he was so great during the impeachement hearings. And I haven't seen anything on the twitter about him, nor anything posted here. Figured him and Swalwell would be making great points.
while this makes sense at first glance, it gives Trump way too much credit for being able to plan in advance like that. As the pandemic proved, he's incapable of thinking outside the moment currently in front of him.
Ive said before. We grew up together. I will actually give SBPD some credit for just letting protesters voice their anger and not let it turn. The city's wounds are still open after Eric.
I haven't seen anything from him. A group of Ds should have a press conf every day educating the public about Trump's criminality and maleasance. Tweets/op-eds/etc. get lost in the noise imo.
Hadn’t seen this here. Apparently when they cleared Lafayette Square they also physically went onto and cleared the patio at St Johns next to Lafayette Square where clergy members of multiple denominations were handing out water and snacks to protestors by pushing people with their shields and using tear gas...
I think the problem is less jurisdictional and more the military’s sworn obligation to protect the constitutional rights of American citizens.
