I agree with you to an extent, but I also think that you are giving “conservative” voters too much credit. DeSantis is not Trump and can’t emulate what made Trump so popular, but DeSantis is committed to stomping on the constitution in order to own libs and that alone will endear him to the MAGA base.
If he goes 1 on 1 vs Trump he will get smoked, but if he’s in a crowded field vs Trump he has a chance to win the nomination and if he wins the nomination, I think he will win it all.
i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: the fat ron handwringing itt is almost exclusively from florida posters and it’s mainly them (mostly subconsciously) wanting to think florida is important nationally
Imo the moderates won’t break for fat Ron because he’s a weird little freak with zero charisma and wants to be American Orban
y'all sleeping on the fact that half the population thinks anyone not R is a communist and as long as the R candidate doesn't spout of loony election and antivax shit then he'll get all those moderates and Rs who didn't vote for trump i'm p much an expert on this stuff
If DeSantis wins the R nomination, Trump is going to run as an independent. He’s one of the most vindictive people in politics and he knows exactly what that will do to the republican’s chances of winning the presidency.
I am interested to see what the breakdowns are in the primary. Like what % of college educated votes trump vs desantis or rural vs urban or if it’s just blended all over
Feel like I’m taking crazy pills when I hear how dismissive most of y’all are of Ronnie. Only the lunatic fringe MAQAs are still 100% in on trump. The rest have hitched their wagon to Ronnie. The amount of Ronnie apparel and regalia I saw while in Florida is reminiscent of trump paraphernalia.
You live in a state where the dumbest, most hateful people in America moved to like it is their Mecca. Florida is not representative of the rest of the country at all
I live in California. Florida is the third most populous state. The majority of residents love the hate ron spews. And as you said above, it’s so attractive to many other Americans that they’re moving to Florida. Don’t discount how those views and ideologies leak into the millions and millions of tourists/snowbirds/part time FL residents. Those people take those views back to their states and communities. This isn’t South Dakota where there’s zero impact.
I see an unbelievable amount of anti-Whitmer stuff here in MI, it must correspond nationally, right? When we start counting Desantis hats in NYC we are in trouble.
This thread has me thinking I want to put my money where my mouth is. Went to look at 2024 Presidential race odds and Ronnie is the favorite
The way the media helped Trump was Trump got media coverage because he was charismatic. One time CNN showed an empty podium at a Trump rally longer than they covered a Bernie speech. Ron isn't duplicating that.
"Independent" voters are what matters in a general. Trump in 16 literally ran on multiple stances on the subject. He could be whoever you wanted him to be policy wise. Once in office it was obvious he was a run of the mill conservative legislatively. Ron yelling "woke" and bussing undocumented individuals out of state and other culture war bullshit may score points with the base but you already have those people.
This is my thought. The media is turning on Trump again and they will spin the Fat Ron shit as the boring, normal candidate they want to GOP to be after mounting losses left and right. They’ll normalize the shot out of him being dull and lifeless. They’ll also protect him from Trump. I still think Trumps base will be too much to overcome, but DeSantis won’t fade because the powers don’t want him to.
no but the rest of the country is already in on desantis. At least the base part and that’ll pull the rest of the party in line. I agree he may have trouble getting past trump, but he’s got a better chance in the general than trump
you, a casual observer of politics, want to engage me, a professional politicker, on this subject? bold strategy
If he continues to ramp up his anti abortion stance, that would probably due to significant nation wide damage to his campaign. His anti-mask, keep everything open will help him.
I feel like I’m taking crazy pills and in a couple years when fat Ron wins we’re going to be sitting in our reeducation pods wondering how what happened was possible, I’ll say I told you so.
Oh Jesus please please please don't spend the next 2 years telling us DeSantis is going to win. I beg of you, just don't.
Ron isnt funny and thats very important. Ron only survives on the framing he enjoys from the media in edited, friendly clips. Joe was just their chatting up florida man and his wife while Ron was virgin walking away How long can fawning adoration from fascist 'news' coverage carry him? Hard to tell
can’t help I told you CACs what was going to happen and why. The media goes out of it’s way to paint the right and left in different lights. They change reality to suit their narrative. Trump was a pos with some charisma. Fat Ron might not have that charisma but he has literally done shit that feeds that base. The immigrant stunt, the mask shit the abortion shit. He feeds the nut jobs their red meat. Anyone saying he doesn’t stand a chance is crazy.
my post was mostly a joke so I’m not saying I believe he will win. I’m simply saying it’s not crazy to believe he has a chance of winning. The media will go out of its way to write the narrative in his favor.
Unless Trump splits the vote the electoral College will likely go to the party of racist fucks Change my mind
We can argue all day over whether DeSantis has the personality to win, but we spent the run up to 2016 doing the exact same thing with Trump. Our threads were full of stuff like this: “wait until Pantsuit gets her claws in him. He’ll probably cry on stage.” Spoiler: Primary The GOPe/Murdoch machine appears determined to sink Trump and prop up Ron. If the other candidates drop out early and coalesce behind Desantis it’s hard to see how he’d lose. He’ll crush Trump in the FL primary and blue states. He’s also already leading TX by 10. Trump will win places like AL/MS/AR etc. but trail in the delegate race by hundreds. Spoiler: General General elections are binary choices. (4) states are going to decide it: GA/WI/AZ/NV. The midterms gave me hope on AZ/NV but our ticket is vulnerable as fuck. And DeSantis isn’t going to start every rally shaming women on abortion. He’ll target independents on the economy and immigration while hyping his “success” in FL. 2024 could potentially take on a 2016 vibe with Biden/Harris running a ho-hum campaign promising nothing but the status quo. Our best bet is for Trump to declare a Perot-style independent candidacy now in 2023. I don’t think he can wait until mid-24. It’s not as easy as picking up the phone and saying put me on the ballot. It’d likely cost millions out of his own pocket to launch the signature drive. And there will be lawsuits…
It’s, of course, *possible* that he can win, but the country as a whole, and more specifically the GOP base wants to be entertained. He’s a short, fat, awkward dork.
Not sure where else to post this, but this news gave me immense personal satisfaction: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/18/us/vatican-removes-anti-abortion-leader-priesthood.html good luck to your 63 year old virgin ass with no professional experience.
Setting aside anything else, any comparison of Desantis 2024 to Trump 2016 that doesn't explicitly mention Trump was 100x more well-known than Desantis is lacking thought.
I have yet to hear a single DeSantis supporter utter the words, "I like him because he says the things that we're all thinking, and isn't afraid of political correctness!"
