Back in Baltimore with David Simon's latest with some familiar faces. Tells the story of the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption surrounding it.
First episode was really good. Slow burn to start but heated up at the end. Couple Wire cameos that weren’t shown in the trailer, including one at a car stop that made me so happy.
Oh yeah, I'm going to enjoy this. Bernthal was really good and enjoyed seeing the old Wire actors sprinkled in throughout.
Just watched the trailer in the OP and Berenthal saying “we dew thengs bi da book” is a pretty solid Baltimore accent
Dude spelling affiant wrong had me laughing pretty good. I don't know why. Just always little stuff Simon's shows get right.
Those are the only ones I noticed. Slim was hard to recognize with the beard but the voice was unmistakable.
Show is really good. Although these Baltimore accents are brutal. Had to turn on subs like I do w Peaky Blinders
When they did the training day montages with Bernthal to show is evolution as a dirty cop, I couldnt understand what the cops where saying. Especially his mentor.
Guess I don't have any trouble with the accent for whatever reason. Maybe it was my many watches of The Wire that has trained me for this.
I use subtitles for tv shows of any complexity. You get a lot more IMO. Names of characters, what music is playing etc
Team subtitles…well on everything except comedies. I find they outpace the punchlines at times. Definitely helps with this show, you also catch background convos that you’d never hear without them.
Different characters obviously, but casting Herc as the Police Union chief is likely pretty intentional from Simon. Exactly the kind of chud cop that ends up fighting for and defending the next generation of chud cop’s IRL.
is it just me or do Allers and the investigator look related? seems intentional and there’s a weird vibe between them. maybe I’m just making it all up in my head because they look similar. love the show though.
