"Seperation to draw the hold" is the key. He's saying it's a hold, but if it's inside the ref can't see it and isn't going to call it. You're the one misreading what he's saying.
"What he's actually saying is that it was a hold but it's not being called" The literal first sentence of tweet/x/whatever:
He then goes on to say "inside the frame" which is literally specified is still holding in the actual rulebook. You trust him or the rulebook?
I already told you I'm talking about interpreting his tweet, not the rule. You interpreted his tweet wrong. That's ok. You can say that. But take the rule up with Gerald.
There's 2 ways to interpret his tweet. 1. He's talking about how things are called. 2. He doesn't know the rules. That's it. I tend to think he knows the rule, hence why he says it's not called if it's inside bc refs can't see it. Doesn't make it not holding, just one that's not called a lot.
No there isn't. He's saying you don't know the rules which almost certainly means he thinks he does which probably means he doesn't have your interpretation of the rule (or rulebook). He's literally saying it's not a hold. If he was talking about how things were called in practice he would have said that.
I think you guys have at least 3 more pages in you on this topic. I'll check back in a few hours. Don't disappoint me.
My interpretation of the rulebook? Please tell me another way to interpret the highlighted part. So I'll put you down in the "Gerald McCoy doesn't know the rules." column.
Gerald McCoy giving his opinion on it is persuasive to a degree. But it isn’t the end of the discussion. Because he could be wrong. I’ve never actually heard him talk about football in my life until this moment. And we know not all football player opinions are created equal
Dbl - "If you don't think this was a hold, you don't know shit about football." Former NFL defensive lineman - "If you do think this was a hold, you don't know shit about football." Not sure which opinion to weigh more heavily. But mostly I just posted because I saw Mccoy's tweet and remembered that dbl used the same language to make the opposite argument which is pretty funny.
I didn't say you don't know football, I said you don't know the rulebook. If you want to argue with the rulebook, go for it. The rulebook explicitly says holding inside the frame is still holding.
Honestly not trying to relitigate this But if I were you I'd make the case that as a Sooner, Mccoy's opinion on anything cannot be trusted
