I’ve reached a transition period in life with my partner and I going our separate ways, which gives me a cool opportunity to relocate (hopefully next year) if you were a guy in your mid-30s without much family or a social circle, where in the US would you take yourself? one thing keeping me in Omaha for now is my house with its 2.2% mortgage rate, and since the next place will only have a single source of income, im taking affordability into consideration
I just looked up a list of the 25 most affordable cities in America. Omaha was #13. I don’t think any of the cities ranked higher looked more appealing.
the great lakes region is appealing to me because it seems more insulated from climate change and other natural disasters?
Have you considered holding on to your place and renting it? Being a landlord kinda sucks but at that interest rate, you’re likely to get some passive income. To answer the question, somewhere in Carolinas has always been my go-to daydream place.
Minnesota is rad. I'd think about areas just outside the twin cities like St. Cloud or something. Seems like a nice little college town.
at first, but I will have a fuck ton of equity in this place and I’ll need that cash for the next place
If I'm working remotely, the mountains in Colorado. Maybe tahoe area if I feel like I'll never need to change jobs
I live in Atlanta and fly to the West Coast twice a month. If me and my gf broke up and my job paid me more to relocate I would be in Denver or San Diego tomorrow. I would also consider Phoenix since it seems more affordable.
I did it eight years ago and love Denver. If I had to do it again, I'd go to San Diego. Both are expensive but worth it.
what you are really asking for is the thread to find the best place to live that isn't being crushed by cost of living. I'm sure there are some current studies on those two factors people can dig up. Living out west is great (I live in Denver) but your life might be drastically different based on cost of living.
Talked about it on here a few times but the Oregon coast is amazing. Not the cheapest housing but it’s all relative. Just heading into the rainy season after the last six months of great cool summer.
I would honestly move to the mountains but try to find somewhere that isn't incredibly expensive like the front range.
you must be a baller. my buddy and his wife just moved to Frisco and 1.5m was the minimum for a decent house.
After spending time in Canada recently, no question Canada... A suburb of Toronto maybe? If I had to stay in the US it's going to be in the mountains here in North Carolina.
it seems like most desirable places are short on housing since I am sure I am not the only one interested in moving there
I meant the relatively cheaper outskirts, but I'm assuming in this scenario that I don't have kids and I'd be living lean without any real interest in owning a place again. I think idaho springs or boulder is where I'd look first though
I’ll probably look to buy again, but I don’t need a 2000sf 3 bed/3 bath house in the suburbs like I have now - would like to experience something different for a change before I hopefully have an opportunity to start a family eventually
I'd love to say Wyoming or Idaho but man those places are just crawling with white supremacist militias. So id probably go the abroad route and try somewhere like Costa Rica
Troll answer: Gotta go with pigeon forge Not yet mentioned but place I enjoyed Portsmouth nh or Portland Maine My realistic answer: maybe Greeneville sc
If money is no issue, San Diego, but taking everything into account I'm always surprised by how much I like Chicago whenever I go and visit friends. It's got everything. There are parts that aren't too bad cost of living wise and seems like it'd be a good place for finding someone to settle down with in your 30s since there's a more mature dating pool there.
If the point is to start over and family isn't a concern, pick your favorite place to vacation or where you've always wanted to be and just go for it. Like to ski, go live in Colorado or something. Like to surf, Hawaii. Like the mountains but don't want to be super cold- Carolinas. City living-Chicago, NY, LA, etc
