On the bright side, she amazing with people. From infants to toddlers to adults, she just loves on them. She let my three year old god daughter hug on her and kisses on my dog walkers infant in her stroller.
my buddy brought over him and his wife's tiny little maltipoo. ended up just letting her and paige figure it out. the small dog was really threatened at first but once she got used to it they played for 30 mins straight. he said his dog passed out immediately when they got in the car
As soon as you see her at the park, start Truman on some ball chasing endeavors that lead near or at the Chihuahuas.
Piper was pretty proud of herself this morning. Brought me this little fella while I was drinking coffee on the back porch. Wife was not amused.
Scarlet would do the exact same of she could ever get her mouth on one. They are too damn quick for her, but it's funny as hell to watch her go into stealth mode thinking she is sneaking up on them all the time.
LOL. my lab was in the bushes a couple years ago squeaking a ball. he wouldnt come to me when i called him...so i went into the bushes to find that he was squeaking this
i post about my lab and his bunny catch then he catches a small bird this morning at the park. girlfriend wouldnt let me take the bird in the mouth picture
This dog is bad as hell. Just brought me another one. Hell bent on eradicating the bunny population from my backyard.
My uncle has a 100lb Shepard / lab that catches moles and rabbits and throws them around in the air. Pretty sure it has scarred my aunt
We like our yard bunnies. They are cute little greeters. Paisley chases the ones who venture into our back yard though. No catches.
Guys with two dogs, how far apart in age are they? Our dog is ~5, she deals with friend's puppies pretty well but I think having one around the house at all times would wear her ass out.
Not sure where you're going with the cost, but my cocker growing up wasn't any more expensive than my current mutt.
just dog sat a friends 6 month old puppy for a week and our 6 year old handled it pretty well the pup is twice her size and much faster, but the pecking order was established pretty quickly (through no biting and very little barking) and the old gal did just fine
I have a 6 year old Bulldog and just added a 7 month old GSD. I let them have a romp session for 30 or so minutes in the morning and another in the evening. Any more than that and it's too much for him, she could easily go all day, I have to remind her to leave him alone often and if I don't he surely will which I prefer to avoid. Then again, he's a Bulldog and he literally cannot breath after 30 min of playing, I'm sure he would go longer if he could, as he is still very energetic for his breed and age and likes to play with her when he's in the mood. A 6 year old dog with normal muzzle and a lot of energy could handle it fine I think. I would definitely not pair a senior dog with a puppy though. It's just not fair to that dog and will annoy the shit out of them and make their golden years suck. If you want another dog at that point, adopt an adult dog.
Mine are a year apart, and are polar opposites. They get along well enough, but I wouldn't say their best friends. We got the second one hoping it would make our ridgeback less timid and more comfortable around people but it hasn't helped at all. Similar energy levels is going to be key for the second dog. We got two beagle puppies towards the end of the other dogs life. I think he actually stayed around longer because of their energy. For about 6 months he had more energy than he had in years running around and playing with the puppies.
My biggest fear is having my two go at the same time. Gus is already pretty peppy, so I think he'll like a little buddy that jumps around.
It was the same for my mom's boxer and her two boston terrier puppies. I think it was a good thing, and Gracie (the boxer) helped instill some good habits in the BTs (sort of).
I wouldn't say this is an absolute. My older dog was about 4 when we adopted the second one as a 8 week old puppy. The older one is pretty damn lazy, she is the kind of dog that you can't get up in the morning cause she just wants to sleep. She would legit sleep 12+ hours a night if we let her. The younger one is full energy, all the time. They are pretty much opposites in that regard. They are best friends though and love being with each other. The older one will play with her every now and then when she's feeling up to it and when the younger one is being annoying the older one will let her know to chill out. They figure it out. Just my personal experience.
Yea, I suppose it just depends on the dogs in question. Maybe it's just me that would prefer a little more energy out of one(ridgeback) and a little less energy from the other (coonhound).
Your ridgeback is low energy? Didn't think that existed. Getting our second at the end of the year to hopefully mellow our first out.
If she's inside, she's sleeping. Even outside in the backyard she rarely runs around. She loves walks and running around big open areas, but tires out quickly. Also doesn't get destructive like a lot of high energy dogs who don't get exercise, and seems perfectly content to just sleep all the time. I wouldn't count on a second dog changing the behavior of the first.
We found a pup that we're interested in adopting, but she just had her 1st round of heartworm treatment yesterday. How many treatments does that entail, and just how restricted is she going to need to be (crate even when we're home)? Didn't someone just go through this - wes tegg maybe?
all these animal-in-mouth pics made me think of this last week at the lake. Norman found a slug and my buddy captured it.
Had to put down my female Jack Russell this afternoon. She has battled cancer for the past two years and was a trooper through it all. Best dog I have ever owned and I cried like a bitch, and didn't care one bit who saw. My couch is gonna be very lonely for a long time.
I'd love to get a dog, i just wouldn't know what to do for it when I'm at work for 8 or so hours. What do you all do?
Wife and I adopted a Border Collie/Blue Heeler mix from some friends who had an unexpected litter. She's adorable, I'll make sure to add a picture today. Nervous and excited to say the least as I haven't had a dog in years. Of course the first night we have her I have an auditor with a family emergency and I had to leave her.
This is my problem. I get to work before 7 everyday and most days I don't get home until at least 6:30-7 and by then I'm pretty worn out. I could never do that to a dog. I want to open a gym that has an outside area where you can bring your dogs and they can run around outside with other dogs while you're working out. Seems like a lot of people won't go workout after work because they have to go home and tend to their dogs.
"I could never do that" Not trying to dissuade you but I would rather take a dog out of a kill shelter and give it a home then feel bad about leaving it alone foe 8 hours
Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of me getting Piper. That girl has been the best little hellian I could ask for.
