I've actually never stepped foot in there. I had friends there on Saturday at 3 PM () who said it's still going on but just not as strong as it used to be. I hear the Men's Club has a decent lunch buffet
Whats the Housing Market like? I'll be there for four years. Was thinking about getting a townhouse and a roommate in midtown/med center/rice village so that way after I'm gone I can rent it to rice and have minimal mortgage payments. Looking for something 200-350k. I'm financially retarded but this seems like a better alternative than paying 1500$ a month for a mediocre apartment with no return, and after 4 years i'll have finished residency so wouldn't be as broke.
I'll take original ninfas over el tiempo all day but it isn't exactly convenient so it's not always an option.
This is very true. Although, funny enough they are opening an El Tiempo on Navigation basically across the street
Going to be in Houston for 3 weeks for work at the end of February/beginning of March. I believe this is the approximate location of where the client will be that I am visiting. Betting that we will stay in a hotel somewhere within reasonable distance. I plan to begin reading over this thread for food suggestions, but if anyone is willing to save me some time and point out some places worth checking out I would appreciate it.
Well it's not like we're gonna be paying out of pocket to drive anywhere. It's gonna be three guys for the entire three weeks. All getting charged to the client so we won't give a shit.
I'm staying at the DoubleTree Downtown on NYE, and would like to inquire about the establishment(s) where I may find Paul Wall, people's champ. Also, any recommendations about where I can find a decent meal (<$75) and/or a bar to ring in the new year with a few buddies would be appreciated.
In Still Tippin he says he's "on that 5-9 Southlea" so that's the first place I'd check. Maybe he's at TV Jewelry getting a grill. You can cross Sugar Land off your places to search... he ain't here.
the stuf pez just posted is accurate. this site can be helpful http://houston.eater.com/ pretty sure they have a visitors guide that isnt a bad start if you can spend some consequence-free cash edit: here it is. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-...ffer-sea-urchin-foie-gras-breakfast-food.html they also have "heat maps" showing the best new/current spots.
also, tony's apparently has authentic kobe beef imported from japan http://houston.culturemap.com/newsd...taste-and-wallet-shock/?utm_source=sf_twitter
I dont think the Laurenzo's have owned the Navigation location for a couple years now. The new people also just brought in the Anvil people to help run things
Idk but if you go out AAA will tow you home for free ending at 6AM. Don't even have to be a AAA member. Number is 1-800-222-4357
What do ya'll think about the buffalo speedway area near Reliant? Also I'm going to look at some places off washington ave. tomorrow. All the places I looked at in midtown were too close to the ghetto to buy for fear of manifest ghetto destiny.
- re: buffalo speedway...the further north you go toward 59, the better - wash ave is fine for a young guy, but fuck its crowded and cops are everywhere. better place to visit IMO. - i'd look in the heights for a rental. lots of bars and restaurants in the heights, plus you are close to washington. - would also look at some places near tanglewood (san felipe and fountainvew area). cheaper than washington or heights, closer to galleria, close enough to washington and heights.
Also midtown is being gentrified. It's not ghetto creeping, it's the other way around right now. That may stop and reverse again, that's always possible
the gf is applying for two residencies in houston, so it was nice to read through this and know that it's not just chilis and applebees which is what I've always assumed from my two visits there I did get to go to the men's club for a bachelor party when I was like 21 and it was pretty kickass
I've only been to Dallas like once last year for the cotton bowl, it was ok I have more experience with ft worth
