http://www.glidemagazine.com/139462/trixie-garcia-talks-fare-thee-well-rex-foundation/ Highlights Glide: Given all the momentum, do you see anything happening in the future for more Dead-related stuff? Garcia: The Rex Foundation has its annual Tie Dye Ball in December, and we have Jerry Day coming up. That’s not a Rex thing but it goes to benefit the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater that they did here in San Francisco. But there will be more events. There’s no one looking at all of those 70,000 people and thinking it’s not going to happen again. In some shape or form obviously – with that exact lineup I highly doubt – but we’ll see. There’s definitely going to be more large events. Glide: You’re talking about shows with different members of the band? Garcia: Right, there’s going to be much more. Glide: Is there a feeling in the Grateful Dead camp that you’d like to see more of that? Yeah, there’s a feeling that our fanbase wouldn’t be served if there were no more events. I think it’s pretty obvious to everybody. Everybody wants to go to more shows. While there’s currently no word on when these new shows might happen, rumors have been circulating that Bob Weir and John Mayer are involved in at least one Dead-related project. Phil Lesh has also announced a number of Phil and Friends shows, and Bill Kreutzmann has also scheduled an appearance the Lockn’ Festival with his new project Billy & The Kids. As previously reported, the core four surviving members of the Grateful Dead played their final shows together at Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 3, 4 and 5.
This new Bobby "cowboy songs" album sounds pretty cool. (I mean the concept sounds cool, it's not out yet)
Bob Weir is apparently going to release an album of "cowboy songs" http://www.jambase.com/Articles/125951/Bob-Weir-Prepping-Album-Of-Cowboy-Songs Spoiler Joshuam2107
Oh my http://www.jambands.com/news/2015/0...ann-to-play-msg-on-halloween-with-john-mayer/ Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann will share the stage this fall. The Grateful Dead members will perform as part of Dead & Company, a new project featuring guitarist John Mayer, longtime Dead-family keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge. The ensemble’s first confirmed show is an appearance at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Halloween. The project was originally promoted as Los Muertos, which translates to “The Dead” in Spanish, but the show was announced in a Village Voice ad under the header Dead & Company. Weir has been rumored to work with Mayer on a new project for several months. Mayer attended all five Fare Thee Well performances and was often spotted mouthing the words to Dead classics near his girlfriend Katy Perry. Recent Instagram posts show Weir and Mayer rehearsing with Mike Gordon and Steve Kimock, but neither musician appears to be involved in Los Muertos. Phil Lesh will play a sold-out show right outside New York City at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre on Halloween. The ensemble is expected to announce additional dates.
Maybe I'm splitting hairs on the definition of "Dead projects" but hasn't he already played a Dead show setlist at Terrapin(since FTW)?
Of course he's still going to play Dead songs, he's not playing under any banner of the Dead, or with any of the other band mates though. He's going to do his own thing and I respect that.
Fwiw, I doubt Weir comes out with Phil and Friends. Not expecting it at Lockn, at least. Weir doesn't seem to have a set on the Lockn lineup either, just sit-in and such. If they gave him an hour I would like to see a preview of that Halloween show, but doubt it, since i'm sure they'd announce that.
His absence from February 71 through October 74 coincided with what most would consider the greatest stretch in the band's history - this is not a coincidence.
I'm already locked into two festivals in October and no spare leave/$$ for that kinda excitement. I would love to do this at some point though..or at least NYC for NYE.
I guess. Bobby and Mickey were clearly the two weakest links of FTW, and while I respect the hell out of Mayer's ability, I don't think he'll come close to connecting with people like Trey did. NYC is an absolute Dead Mecca though, rivaling even SF, so if they can do it anywhere it'll be there. I'll be very interested to see what ticket sales are like - at this point, I'm not even sure if MSG is half full for this.
It's gonna be a bigger tour than just those dates. I've got a source that says a Detroit show is basically already done. Not saying it'll be as good as FTW, but it'll be dead songs live - with original members & competent guys filling out the band. I can see the skeptism, but I think it's got a chance to be pretty cool.
Probably. You have to remember that Mayer is a draw in and of himself and that this is their first show. Also, none of the FTW shows were on the east coast. That, plus a weekend in NYC when it's probably not quite as expensive to travel to (late October). Seems logistically like there is a huge amount of people a short amount of travel away too.
Yeah, it'll sell out. If it was Phil and friends, or ratdog last year...no way. But after the success of FTW, and the fact that they're marketing it as some version of the dead - I think it'll go fast.
Like I said, if they can do it anywhere it'll be NYC though I'm not really sure the typical Mayer crowd (whatever that is these days) is going to be marking off their calendars for this. None of the FTW shows were on the east coast but I don't think that stopped too many folks from making the pilgrimage to Chicago and even Santa Clara. Those shows blew away just about every expectation and I think most folks who saw them were more than content to leave it with that (at least from what I've read and heard from those in attendance.) I also wonder how the dynamic is going to work without Phil - TheFreak55 will kill me for this - but Bobby needs someone to rein him in and I'm not convinced at all he'll allow Mayer to really do his thing on such a stage even though they've worked together a bit in the past. Oteil really doesn't do much of anything for me. I'd love to see Mayer play with Billy and the Kids though, I think that would really kick ass.
Kill you? Naw I'm to busy listening to the Ace album on vinyl and you know I don't get that technical on anything and you're probably right PS I got the Stealie Chacos too, my first pair on Chacos and this are pretty fucking sweet
Newest post is basically a mix of Jerry highlights. Pretty cool: http://www.dead.net/jerry2015?intcmp=home/carousel1
Due to overwhelming demand for its Halloween show at @MadisonSquareGarden, new #GratefulDead offshoot Dead & Company announced it will perform a second show on Nov. 1st along with 21 dates booked throughout the U.S. that will be announced after the initial sales for the Halloween run, and that additional musicians will join the group throughout the tour, including a possible return of #Phish frontman #TreyAnastasio. Guess's on where the other 21 dates will be
