Pettine should be coaching the defense himself. He shouldn't lose his job over his defense when that is his forte.
No doubt the defense has been awful and needs fixed. If we get the chance to take a franchise qb, we should do it
Stop it. We have literally gone through every NFL coach over the last 16 years. Coaching only goes so far- we lack on-field talent on defense ( and most spots on our team tbh).
The defense does need to be addressed first- It's the biggest issue with the team right now. We fucking took another retarded QB in the first round 2 years ago. The QB is as good as the talent around him...how about we try to build around a QB for once? Get some playmakers at the skill positions, build a good defense, etc. We keep throwing young QBs into the fold when they are not ready, break them, and then ship them off after 2-3 years.
Our secondary has all been to a pro bowl. Dansby has been a pro bowler. We've spent countless picks on the dl. We aren't the most talented defense in the league but it's good enough to be top 12
Ray Farmer is to blame more than anything. We've had 7 first round picks since 2012 and absolutely nothing to show for it
I don't care what some of these scrubs have done in the past. Whitner, Kruger, and Dansby are not what they used to be, Gilbert is a joke, Mingo is bad, Haden is playing awful, Gipson has done nothing.
Keep McCown & Manziel for this year and next year, build around them because they are both serviceable QBs, then once McCown is ready to hang it up in 2 years, draft a kid to come in and compete with Manziel.
Duke do you even realize we've taken a defensive player in the 1st round 5 of the last 6 years when you say this?
I feel like you are just blindly saying this. The Colts also draft like shit but they lucked into Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning so they make the playoffs a lot, so I'd say that yeah the QB would be pretty important
No idea. They haven't been on here the last 2 weeks and fuck going out to watch them so I've only seen pieces when on Red Zone channel
Shut up, Shaun. I'm just heated because these fags are out of the playoffs almost before the Indians are out of the playoffs. Fuck them and fuck me for falling for it again.
Some of those years we did have 2 1sts so we took a crappy offensive player and a crappy defensive player.
The 2nd part is right though. I'd take being the Colts and being incompetent except for lucking into a stud QB so we are a playoff team that gets knocked out early
yeah but that's part of the plan dude. smart teams usually use first round picks to make sure they have an insurance option at center. I mean what if Mack leaves? it's not like you can just draft a quality center late in the draft or find one at a discount in free agency. It's a premium position! and if Mack stays and erving is the odd man out, we can always flip him for a seventh rounder.
also it's hilarious watching us all become reverse homers once the season goes tits up. we go through this every year guys. we look horrific, everyone's convinced we''re going 2-14 and getting the top pick, and we end up bullshitting our way to 4-6 wins. Every year. This team sucks, but somehow they'll inexplicably beat Pittsburgh or Cincinnati and knock themselves out of the running for the top pick. It's like a bizarro version of the eighties teams. Always bad, never bad enough.
@MaryKayCabot: #Browns DC Jim O'Neil defends scheme and playcalling of 32nd-ranked D: 'It's an execution league' http://t.co/YADBWeK3Me
I love this section when questioned if he is blaming the players "No, absolutely not,'' he said. "It's an execution league. Any sport at this level is an execution league. No, I'm not saying that at all. If you know anything about me, that's not what I'm about. I'm saying that we know some of the stuff they're doing; they know some of the stuff we're doing. At the end of the day, it's the coaches' job to put the players in position to make plays and it's the players' job to execute. Whoever does that better – the coaching staff and those players – usually win the game. That's all I'm saying." No I'm not blaming them but it is an execution league and its the players job to execute. Haha goodness
Chud's coaching staff would have been so much better if our shitty front office had actually given him a chance. The moment they fired him I knew it was pointless to care anymore.
I want you to take back your bitching about the Andy Lee trade. I realize it was that we were only getting a P but he's our best player
I just remember you posting all the guys who left SF and saying out of all that the only guy we got was Lee I took it to think you didn't like it
No I was just making a joke that it was a punter with a goofy look on his face instead of a bad ass hebrew LB or something to that affect.
