ya, might have to take it. Unless I find the deal of the year, gonna be hard for me to be right near work, which is right next to Union Station
Roaming Buffalo BBQ near DU campus. Goddamn, that's some good bbq. Went for the first time today. Actually the first bbq place I've tried since moving to Denver. Definitely going to be going back to try more things on the menu. Still have a couple other places I'd like to check out but it seems like 2015 was a year where some solid bbq places finally began popping up based on a ton of food reviews for the city. That's good for me because one of my favorite restaurants when living in ATL was a BBQ joint, so I've been on the hunt to fill that void. Think Ragin Hog is going to be next up for me in Berkeley. Also need to try Owlbear (food truck) at Finn's Manor next time I'm there. I believe a former Franklin BBQ guy runs that, which is enough for me to give it a go.
guy I went to HS with back in Texas is the owner/smoker at Roaming Buffalo. Been meanign to stop in, have heard nothing but good things.
Had the pulled lamb shoulder and chopped pork. Wanted to try the jalapeño cheddar sausage but they had run out already. Lamb and pork were delicious. Going back for sure to try more of the menu.
Going through some wedding booze options. Has anyone had spring 44 gin? Wondering how it compares to something like tanq.
Anyone have any Nuggets connections for a reasonably priced ticket for tonight's game against the Warriors?
I've had it and thought it was pretty good. Unfortunately I haven't had tanq in ages and can't really compare the two. I run a liquor store here that specializes in locally made products and could run you through all sorts of options sometime if you like.
Thanks, but we've already paid for it through our planner. Unless you work with Peak's, in which may may want to stop in
A little nervous. Have a flight at 930pm back to Denver, if its cancelled I might be screwed until at least Tuesday.
southwest and united both emailed all flight holders to let them know they can reschedule for free. Front range is supposed to get dumped on tonight. Mountains are looking at 2 feet tonight
I'll be in Denver 2/18-2/21 with the GF, booked a hotel downtown. Any recommendations on ish to do that time of year other than skiing? Are there a lot of good hiking trails outside the city still doable if it isn't shitting snow? We are staying right next to the Ogden, and were maybe going to go see Logic on that Saturday. We should be good on things to do at night, mostly just looking for some activities/sights to see during the day.
really depends on weather and if you have transportation. Active lifestyle or more dinner drinks person?
95% flying and not renting a car, so probably reliant upon Uber. That's mostly why no skiing, otherwise I'd love to. We're both active and would prefer to get outside and do shit (like hike or disc golf) if weather permits. Both heavy smokers too, so we'll be high probably half the time.
Denver weather is unpredictable. Could be 70 or low 30s. Movement is a cool climbing spot if you like bouldering. you will need a car if you want to go hiking
If you like Belgian beer, Cheeky Monk is like 5 blocks west at Colfax and Pearl. You can also walk Uptown 2 blocks north and then browse to the west. Lots of stuff around there. Can get sketchy late, though. ETA: The sketchiness is between 14th and 16th from the Capitol to the east.
Probably skipping out. Going to Dallas Wednesday afternoon until Friday morning, so may get my fix in Texas, then hit the Denver spot after the initial opening hype cools down
Suggestions on a good valentine's day spot for dinner on Sunday? Anywhere in or around downtown will work. Also, anyone know of a downtown ski rental company open later than 8 on week days? If not, what is a good rental company?
Linger, Ophelia's, Euclid Hall, Root Down, Acorn (a bit outside of downtown but easy Uber) are all great options. However, at this point in the week they all could be booked. It is usually tough to get a good reservation time on the weekends at those places with only a few days notice on a normal weekend. Ski rental company downtown - I got nothing for you. I do have a referral for a place, but it's out in Evergreen.
Went to Torchys It was awesome. Line was very long Had the Trailer Park, Crossroads, and the street corn Taco of the day was Shrimp and toasted coconut
Been twice already. I've gone 75% secret menu thus far. Matador, Mad Cow, Missionary Style Pork, Republican. That place is going to dominate.
Going to be coming to town this weekend for a volleyball tournament. Anything going on this weekend of note? Also, looks like I'll have a good part of Monday to roam around Downtown Denver. Any can't miss spots? thanks
anyone ever seen the group of douchebags that gather in their ricers late Sunday nights? they get together around 11pm-midnight and I guess this past Sunday was their first time out in a while. Thousands of them were clogging up I25, bumper to bumper at points while south bound was nearly empty. They'll ride side-by-side and slow down to 20 or 30mph while the gap in front of them grows and then have a little race. others weave in and out of traffic going 30+mph faster than everyone else. I've had the same work schedule for a few years and can say with full confidence that these people suck
For those who may know, what is public transportation like going from Aurora to Denver? Me and 3-4 friends were thinking about making the move out there. The main attraction is obviously Denver so just want to compare Aurora prices/hassle to get to Denver with Denver prices + convenience.
1. Aurora blows 2. See this map for current/future rail services: http://www.rtd-denver.com/Fastracks.shtml I'd pick a different suburb area if you're not going to be in Denver (i.e. Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Englewood). Just bought a house in Arvada and it's a pretty easy shot to downtown and other attractive neighborhoods for hanging out (Berkeley, Sunnyside, Highland). Plus a rail line is opening later this year there and my office is right next to Union Station.
If you want some great places that are strictly downtown and in surrounding areas that are easy to walk to/quick Uber I'll give you some diversity. Ophelia's - I've mentioned it a bunch in here but very, very good Linger - same ownership as Ophelia's, one of the best rooftop bars in the city Root Down - same ownership as the above. Excellent Biker Jim's - exotic sausages (Bourdain has tried them and various other TV shows) Finn's Manor - great cajun/voodoo type of bar setting with awesome bbq trailer in the back Hop Alley - modern, hip Chinese restaurant Biju's Little Curry Shop - self explanatory, but very good Work & Class - Kind of a mix of homestyle southern and latin american Cart Driver - Next to Work & Class but they do good Neapolitan style pizza Rhein Haus - huge German beer hall if you're into German beers, sausages, and bocce ball Osterio Marco - nice Italian spot on Larimer Square Euclid Hall - mentioned a bunch in here, but a very cool gastropub Mercantile Dining - in Union Station and they have bomb lunch sandwiches Old Major - all around great restaurant. They do a pop up fried chicken sandwich lunch service now too, which is great Highland Tap & Burger - great burgers and great beer selection Steuben's - putting a modern spin on classic comfort food. Avanti Food & Beverage - cool food hall with like 6 or 7 vendors plus a full bar with cocktails and beers Buchi Cuban Cafe - best Cuban sandwich I've had outside of FL There are more, but I've now given you too much....
Colorado bros, my wife and I will be in Ft. Collins from Thursday - Sunday. Any suggestions out of the obvious restaurants and breweries? We don't plan on doing any outdoor activities, because of timing, but are there any lookouts or relatively short drives we can make that will blow our minds?
Got any recs for decently healthy eats in Arvada? I drive through there a couple times a week to/from the gym.
Arvada Tavern is really good. Yak & Yeti is supposed to be really good (Indian and Nepalese food), but I haven't been yet. You can eat pretty healthy with that type of cuisine if you pick the right things. There is also a place called Namaste India Restaurant. Sultan Grill is a Middle Eastern place.
We are considering making the move from Miami this summer. Would like to rent an apartment for a year or two. We have a dog and want to be close to green space/downtown. LoHi the play?
Nice. Had it on the list after I saw them post that they had Pliney the Younger on tap for about half an hour yesterday.
LoHi would be a good call. Honestly, also Wash Park, or Berkeley/Sunnyside too. A little bit further, but only a 5-10 minute drive from any of them, and you'd have more green space than LoHi would give you.
Where in Miami? If you want an area like the Wynwood Art District, you'd likely want Rino. Anywhere in Lo-hi and Highlands is ok, but you'll be paying a premium to live there. Capitol Hill is the young adults ghetto where you can still find semi-affordable housing in old houses/apartment complexes. Uptown around 17th is nice. Just east of Park Ave through York.
