    Tactically speaking, can someone tell me why Germany matched Italy's 352?

    Is it because there'd be an extra CB for Germany in playing out of the back when Italy presses? If that's one of the reasons, what are the others?

    Or if I'm completely off let me know too please.

    It's an extra defender in the center, period. It means Kroos and (then Khedira) still have a guy behind them, which theoretically maintains numerical superiority over Eder and Pelle. And they had already tested the approach against Italy in a friendly and drubbed them 4-1 with it.
