Convinced he would have been fired without threat of lockout.

Here's what I was told by someone very close. Weaver wanted Randy Edsel and was surprised when he took the Maryland job. He called Edsel after that and asked if he would possibly ditch Maryland. Edsel said he could not do that. As a result, Weaver stuck with JDR. He evidently really likes Edsel.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - David Garrard has small hands

Ok, let's talk off-season. No way we sign Nnamdi. Might as well just talk draft.

Call me crazy, but if it's me, here's how I'd go...

1st - WR - One of AJ, Julio, Blackmon, or Floyd will be there at 16. Probably all but AJ will be there. It's an insane year for WR's. We could get a WR at 16 that would be top 8-10 most years. Is it our biggest need? No. Would it be the best value and help us the most in the long run? Yes.

2nd - DB - CB, S, just anybody to play the pass

    3rd - Interior OL

4th - DB - CB, S, just anybody to play the pass

5th - DB - CB, S, just anybody to play the pass

6th - DB - CB, S, just anybody to play the pass

7th - DB - CB, S, just anybody to play the pass

2012 draft - Trade the entire draft for Luck.

The Jags are going to draft a QB in the first two rounds. I don't think there is any question about that. Also, while Smith is a BAP guy, I simply don't see them taking a WR in the first round. Its not going to happen.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - David Garrard has small hands

Probably not. I'm just saying I would bc of the incredible year at WR this year. I'm sure we'll take a QB, I just don't know if I would. I'd rather give up an entire draft and take Luck than I would take a Locker/Ponder/Dalton type guy in the 1st or 2nd this year. QB is so important that I don't want to lock in for 3-4 years on a gamble, and that's what you're doing by taking one with an early pick. Give up whatever we have to give up to get Luck. I know we won't, but that's what I wish we'd do.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - David Garrard has small hands

Pat Devlin I think is the guy. I'm not too high on Ponder or Locker but I will trust their evaluations over mine on that. There is no question within the first 2 rounds a QB will be taken from everything the front office has been saying for the past year. WR will probably be a need because depending on what he wants we may not resign MSW. QB first or second round, WR in any round, defense rest.

We have a lot to address internally regarding free agency. Marcedes, MSW, Jason Hill, Courtney Green, Durant, Morrison, Mincey, Podlesh. We were counting on a lot of those guys to produce last year.

I wish Gene would stop trying to make a name for himself by drafting these FCS players EVERY ROUND. I know we have been told relentlessly how good these past two drafts have been, which I can say 2009 was genius, but last year was very lackluster and a lot of it had to do with what we gave up in 2009 to get Cox.

I still have hope for Cox, and he started playing better late in the year. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gene load up on the line again after after addressing qb. We clearly need to get younger on thje interior of the ol as neither meester or manuwai have much left. Also, the pass rush still blows, and someone like Quinn could fall into our laps.

Impossibly too early to know who will be there QB-wise in the first couple rounds. I think Smith likes Ponder (if he tests OK) and Devlin.

DBL, disagree with you about last year's draft. Alualu is a really good football player. I hated not having a second rounder last year but Cox played well the latter half of the season (I don't know what the hell the staff was doing earlier in the season). Bad luck with Smith - if he comes back healthy, our DTs are set for a long long time. Lane is a solid, but unspectacular player. Good 5th round pick. High motor and was all over the field the latter half of the season. Karim looks like a decent back and good returner Not bad for the 6th round. Who knows with McGee.

My biggest complaint about the 2010 draft was Larry Hart in the 5th round. Guy has a way to go.

I think that was Kenny that talked about last year's draft. Wasn't me. I like Alualu, but after that, meh. Cox was out 2nd rounder and we'll see how he pans out.

I like Tyson a lot too and unfortunately Smith got injured so we couldn't see what we had, but not having a second and a fourth killed the draft for me. I can't ever imagine Lane or Hart being more than role players and McGee/Karim are lifetime special teamers.

Well, I guess y'all have higher expectations for 5th and 6th round picks than I do. That's where you find role players. Getting a Brady there is the equivalent of winning the lottery. I took a look at the folks drafted after Hart and no one really stood out.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - David Garrard has small hands

Exactly, like I said not having a second and a fourth killed it. When your a team that is in drastic rebuild mode the last thing we need to do is trade a second and a seventh to move up a few spots to draft a relatively obscure CB (I know he has potential and played well at the end of the year). I don't remember what we did with our 4th last year, I think we moved it for a fifth and Kirk Morrison which was a good deal I guess. This upcoming draft is going to be critical, aside from QB we need people who can rush the passer (for the 8th straight draft) and guys who can defend the pass and create turnovers.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Former Jaguars tight end Ernest Wilford Jr. was booked into jail early Friday on charges of trespassing and resisting arrest without violence after police said he was creating a disturbance and refused to leave a Jacksonville Beach bar.

According to the arrest report, Wilford, 31, inappropriately touched at least two women at the Ritz on Third Avenue about 1 a.m. and did not leave when requested. Two Jacksonville Beach police officers who were called also said Wilford refused to leave, telling him, "I'm not going anywhere."

    Read: Ernest Wilford's Arrest Report

According to the report, when Wilford pushed an officer in the chest, one officer fired his Taser gun. As Wilford did not go down, the second officer delivered a shock with a contact stun gun, which took him to the floor. Officers said Wilford continued to resist being restrained and it took both officers to get both arms behind him to get him in handcuffs.

According the report, Wilford had a strong odor of alcohol and could not stand without swaying and rambled as he spoke.

He was booked into the Duval County jail just before 4 a.m., but posted bond and was released before 10 a.m.

Wilford was signed as fourth-round draft pick in 2004. He spent the 2008 season with the Dolphins before returning to the Jaguars in 2009. According to NFL.com, Wilford has had 44 starts with the team, played in 80 games and has 14 receiving touchdowns.

Wilford is currently a free agent. While the arrest report lists his birthday as Nov. 4, other sources show that Wilford would turn 32 on Friday.

Fwiw, mom talked to Ernest yesterday (he did a lot with their business and they all became friends) and he swears he didn't do anything. He was out for his bday and some chicks said he touched them. If any of you have met Ernest, you'll know it doesn't sound like him. He was out partying for his bday, though, so who knows? I think he was pissed that someone would accuse him of some shit like that and ended up pushing a cop over it. Hitting him with 2 stun guns for a simple push is retarded, though. Hate to see his name drug threw some shit like this, though.

Eh, I disagree. There were two of them there. No need to drop 2 stun guns on him bc he chest bumped one of them. Dude was pissed that a girl made up some bullshit. I don't blame him. If he made any type of threat or seemed like he'd be violent to the cops, ok, but just not listening and bumping chests with the cop as the cop is pushing him back isn't worthy of getting dropped by 2 stun guns. Overreaction by the cop. Just my opinion.

Hell, I don't have anything to do for 30 minutes. I'll be tied up from 12-2 probably, though. Might as well.

As I said last week, if I were GM, I'd look long at hard at a WR at 16. I say this bc of the depth at WR this year. Some of that took a hit with Floyd and Blackmon going back, though. I know we need a QB, but I don't want to take a QB just for the sake of taking a QB. I'm not a big fan of any of the QB's this year. I like Locker more than any of them, I think. Locker and Mallet are the only 2 I'd want to draft. If they are there at 16, probably have to go that route. Here's my options in order:

    1 - Locker or Mallett

    2 - PP or Prince

    3 - AJ or Julio

If none of those guys are available, :killme:.

I'm not opposed to Dalton, honestly...but he'll be there in the second. I really don't think a WR is necessary in the first, but we all know AJ won't be there. I really think Prince should be the pick, or trade down and look at a S(a much bigger need to me, than a replacement CB). Like most, I haven't started looking at non-big name prospects because it's still early in the year, so I really don't know what's available at S.

Highly doubtful that Prince is there at 16. If he is, we absolutely better take him. Outside of PP and Prince, though, I don't know if any other DB is worth taking at 16. I don't want to take a DB just bc we need a DB.

There isn't one. They will be long gone & the Jags will cover this need later in the draft. DBs are deep this year... especially CB. BAP will be drafted & I foresee someone that will help the pass-rush. Unless Julio is available.

Exactly how I feel. You can't question his dedication, he put out pieces every day plus it seemed like the front office/coaches liked him so he got some good info out of them most of the time. I force myself to read the Ask Vic column every day because he drops some solid stuff in there from time to time, but the way he sucks off Roethlisberger/Steelers and his general "I know more than you ever will" attitude was too much to take. Plus every one of his post draft analysis was chalked full of hyperbole and then he would not hesitate to trash players once they didn't pan out or left the organization and acted like he wasn't surprised.
