Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars I know pass rush effects pass defense and all, but we really need to do something about the Secondary. We have one player back there that would start for anyone other NFL team. Mathis is losing it quickly.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars From what I've read recently Safety is not great in this draft. We are playing a LOT of good QB's next season...Brees, Roethlisberger, Rivers, Flacco, Freeman, and Peyton+Schaubb x2 obviously.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars Watt, Kerrigan, Cam Jordan seem to be the most popular mock picks.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars hope Gene continues to do a good job in the 1st round. Unfortunately, we've still got many holes to fill.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars I don't know a ton about any of those guys, so I'll just trust Gene. Our schedule is BRUTAL this year. If the ball bounces the right way, we could go 2-14 or 3-13. The schedule is that bad. At best we're looking at 7-8 wins. Screw it, let's go 2-14 and get Luck next year. Is it bad that I think that way?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars I've used this twice in the past ten minutes, but this remains my feelings right now.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars I couldn't be happier. Sure, we have holes and we gave up a 2nd round pick to move up, but we landed the best QB in the draft. I love it. We have out OT's in place and can add the interior OL and defense over the next 2 years while Gabbert takes his lumps that any young QB does. He's not a lock to be a franchise QB, but those come along every 5 years or so. Love the value of just a 2nd to move up.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars gabbert against nebraskas defense the last 2 seasons: 35-85 completions, 1 TD, 3 INT laughing out fucking loud at jax
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars Ahh, I forgot that only game vs Nebraska are used to judge a player. Fuck.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars go ahead and use the games against shit tier defenses for all i care, just thanking god my team didn't waste a top 10 pick on a QB who cant take a snap under center, only knows how to throw hitches, screens, and quick slants, and has a top tier OC who does everything for him he is also soft as tissue paper Courtney Osborne sacks Blaine Gabbert OWWW THAT 170 POUND DB HURT ME SO BAD COACH GET ME OUT EVEN THOUGH HE WASN'T EVEN COMING FROM MY BLINDSIDE MY FOOTBALL AWARENESS IS SO LOW THAT I TOTALLY MISSED HIM AND GOT MY DICK HAMMERED INTO THE DIRT OWWWWW OWWWWWWWW loljags
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars Welp Gene, you better know what the fuck you are doing. The last time we traded down we WAYYY overpaid for Cox so let's hope this is our QB of the future.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars I fucking love the pick. What's the point of rebuilding if you do not have a QB to build around? Maybe Gabbert pans out, maybe he doesn't. But at least you are attempting to acquire a guy at the most important position in the NFL.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars Exactly. He's not a lock, but he was the best QB in this draft. I'm thrilled we were able to move up to get him and only gave up a 2nd. Hell, the Browns had to give up a 3rd to move up 6 sports to 21. We gave up a 2nd to move up 6 to 10. After seeing what the Falcons gave up to get to 6, one 2nd was a steal.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars You don't trade up to 10 and blow your second round pick to grab a QB that "maybe pans out". They better have had this guy scouted and ready to take over for Garrard in however many years it takes.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars Of course they have him scouted. I happen to think he's pretty damn good. I was just explaining why its a good pick. Either you have a QB in this leagie or you don't. It separates the haves from the have nots.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars By the value chart: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/news/story?id=2410670 #10 = 1,300 #16 = 1,000 #49 = 410 So by the value chart, we lost by 110 points. I'm surprised by that, but perfect fine with it.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars I say "maybe pans out" bc he's not Manning out of college, but not many are. Any QB is a gamble. That's just the way it is.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars That was my point. You don't catch fish by keeping your line out of the water.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars Exactly. It's a QB's league. We can plug all the holes we want, and without a QB, we won't be worth a damn. See the Vikings pre-Favre. You have to have a QB, and we went and got the best one without getting killed in doing so. I love it.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars Yea, we know Garrard isn't the guy, and he's getting older. We had to get a young QB, and we got the best one available. How can anyone not be happy with that?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars We have been very clear that this was the draft we were targeting for a QB. I really hope he works out.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars lol mad. Gabbert takes snaps from under center very well. Mizzou works on it every day in practice and we went under center a few times a game. We wouldn't run it in games if we weren't sure he could do it well. And most Mizzou fans hate Yost. Top tier OC? LOL You're kidding. Only throws hitches and screens? The last 10 games of the year we threw about a combined 20 screens because they didn't work. And the problem down the field wasn't Gabbert. It was the fact that we had no wide receivers that could get open. How'd Gabbert throw down the field last year when we had Danario?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars NU fans are still upset that Gabbert dicked them after being committed. No big deal.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars How can you not be happy with that? We are soooooo far away from a playoff winning team and desperately need draft picks and we give up a second rounder for a guy that is not even close to a proven pick. We need picks...bad.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars And dbl before you kill me, realize we are on the same team. I like the pick, I like Gabbert a lot. But as much as people love to slob on Gene he has shown that he will reach (Cox) and we did give up a second round pick, which is a lot for a team that desperately needs picks. Our defense has glaring needs so we better be DAMN sure if we give up a second rounder for a guy that didn't exactly tear it up in a passing offense last year.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars I understand that point of view. I just look at how important QB is, and I'm ok with giving up a 2nd to get the best guy available. Obviously there's no guarantees when dealing with a QB, but I'm ok with taking the gamble to give us the best shot at having a true franchise QB. Will he be Brady or Manning? Probably not. I'd be thrilled if he can be a Ryan or Flacco, though. If we don't make that move, we probably end up taking Kerrigan at 16 and then someone like Kaepernick in the 2nd. Do you really want to have him to build the team around? I sure don't. I'd rather take our chances on the best QB in the draft and fill the holes over the next 2 years while Gabbert learns the ropes. Without a QB, all the other stuff doesn't matter. If we have to use two picks to give ourselves the best chance to have a good one, I'm all for it.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars guarantee we are not done dealing yet either. Wouldn't be surprised if we sneak ourselves in round 2.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - the DBL All Stars Would love to somehow get back into the 2nd to get Morris out of UCLA. If we can leave this draft with Gabbert and a decent DB, my fatass will do cartwheels.
You needed a qb & got the best one in the draft... unfortunately you mortgaged the rest of your draft for him. He isn't a superstar & there isn't a huge drop off to the "next guy" this year at qb. You could have addressed qb in FA. Too many other needs to take a chance on this kid.
we didn't mortgage the draft, but otherwise I agree with you. I feel pretty similar to how I felt last year after we drafted Alualu, and I hope I'm just as pleasently surprised.
Giving up a 2nd is mortgaging the draft? Hmm, ok. And we have no idea if he's a superstar or not. There's nothing to suggest he can't be. He has all the tools to be one. Now we just have to develop him. He was the best qb in the draft, though. We could have drafted Montana and Jorts would still find a way to hate it.
I clarified fat ass. Your team has holes all over the field. 2nds are valuable & you keep giving them away. Every qb in this draft is Meh. Gabbert just happens to be the best of the bunch. With needs all over the field, you don't take a chance on a kid with question marks.
A lot of people think he's better than meh. I'll side with them, bc like I said, he could be montana and you'd still say it was a bad deal.
Most people think this is the deepest QB draft in years. Jorts thinks its meh. Gabbert is a good talent and every QB drafted has question marks. Every one.
You can continue to marginalize my opinion because I'm a Colts fan, but you've admitted yourself that you don't know how good he'll be. You didn't draft Montana, Stanford, Ryan or Bedford... you gave up a 2nd for a question mark @ qb. In a deep, but unspectacular year for qbs.
I assume we can all agree that the titans pick was the biggest laugh of the draft, right? Also, I'm glad we don't have that buttfuck, Caldwell, as our coach. He maked del rio look like bill walsh.
Yea, wtf were the titans thinking? I mean, really? And everyone just stop replying to jorts. He hates the jags and is going to bash any and every move they make.
True. There are risky picks & less risky picks though. This one would be in the risky category & was compounded by the trade & loss of the 2nd.
Titans pick was bad but the Falcons trading up was worse. Thought Ponder going that high was shocking. Also, rumor is that JDR is getting a divorce.
Herf derf I'm not here starting or talking shit... just discussing my hometown team. I don't hate the Jags, just retarded Jags fans. DBL falls into that category with most every team he follows.
For anybody interested, Jorts and I will be continuing this debate this afternoon over a couple drinks.
Question is: how were you born and raised in Jax, but ended up a Colts fan? I'm pretty sure you're close to my age(I'm 28) so most of your formative years were spent with the Jags here. Plus, you're a UF fan, so you should be chemically incapable of liking Peyton.
