I’m confused how an appeals court even gets near to examining this when he **didn’t post the bond to appeal.**
So why pay at all? Presumably appealing would quickly place an injunction on enforcement of the lower court’s ruling.

I think his point was more why should he feel the need to pay at all considering it’s quite obvious nothing matters. They aren’t gonna put him in jail if he doesn’t pay.

Appeal and execution of the judgment are two separate issues. The bond stays execution of the judgment while the appeal is pending. Absent a bond, the judgment can be executed, but Trump would get his shit back if the verdict were reduced or overturned on appeal.
