I think what Bankz is implying is that 2nd at the Confed Cup isn't that impressive. We had a losing record in the tournament (2-3) & conceded more goals than we scored (8-9). We were very fortunate to get out of the group stage & really only played 3 halfs of good football.

I think we should scrap our way through, but would anyone really be that surprised if we didn't make it out of the group stage? Our only legitimate international star player is our goalie (again). Our coach is out of his league. The poster child of our team is a midget that plays in a second/third tier domestic league. More often that not, the Cup goes to the best defensive team & that is our glaring weakness.

i believe we'll advance, but sure, i think every US fan has some part of them that thinks we won't make it out of the group, just based on what we went through in 06. I see Howard and Donovan as our 2 stars. Donovan was able to be an impact player in the toughest league in the world. thats a pretty damn good accomplishment. but we have numerous up and coming international players. Edu, Bradley, Holden, Altidore, Dempsey, Onyewu. and Torres is a definite player in the Mexican league. we don't have the stars on our team like a Brazil or Spain, but we have a bunch of young kids that should make us a player on the world scene for the next couple world cup cycles, IMO
