I've always liked high quality stuff and read an article about Pappy years ago. Walked into the local liquor store and they had 6 bottles on the shelf. I didn't have much money at the time so only bought 2 bottles. Regret it to this day. Since then it's been a fun competition to acquire as much good stuff as possible.
Around the same time I started appreciating things with a story and time: smoking meats, aged whiskey, watches, older cars, WWII, sitting with my grandparents, Lisa Ann, etc.
Take it you saw that Seelbachs email. I've heard they are pretty good but they certainly are pricey. To me there are some pretty good bourbons you can get on the secondary for that amount.
lol I did see the email, and started browsing all their products. I know one of them was supposed to have 4 roses juice in it?
That's the rumor on where they get a lot of their juice. I'm not sure if that's where they get all of it. I know they r/bourbon pick was supposedly 4R.
I have never had one but I am getting a little fatigued from all of the $100-200 sourced offerings right now, so unless someone tells me something spectacular about an individual one I wouldn't bite.
Even in tater central Cincinnati stuff like this is starting to sit on shelves. Kentucky Owl as well.
I don't think so. Many of their offerings are less than 8 years old so $30+ per year just isn't worth it. The ones I've had I don't think are remotely worth their price tag. A lot of NDP distilleries using MGP don't have access to a lot of super aged stuff and still price at or above $100. Nashville and Hughes both seem to get older MGP stocks but no one else seems to - I do think they are pretty solid. Just picked an almost 12 year MGP rye from Hughes that my group is pumped about.
There is sadly a market for expensive shelf shitters. When people who love you think that spending more money on a thing you like equates to getting something of higher value, a Whistle Pig gets its wings.
Some of those early ones when Dixon Dedmon was still there were supposedly really good but I couldn't say.
It is definitely not WT distillate Spoiler I honestly have no idea I just haven’t brought myself to buy one yet so I’ve convinced myself it’s not WT distillate.
and inevitably a relative or friend will text me that they got this or bought it for someone and ask me how did they do and I need to find a way to be as nice as possible.
I had like 8-9 bottles of the C923, I gave most of them away. It was good but don't think it lived up to the hype. I'm going sober this week since I went hard in the paint last couple of days so let me revist both whenever I do a bourbon night again.
Also, don’t know if I told you, Leeroy Jenkins! I’m done with ortho trauma. I do the eyeballs now. Life’s tite.
My SIL and her husband love Whistlepig. We got the OHLQ 10 year single barrel on single barrel Saturday for them for Christmas because it’s what they like but it hurt to buy it when 4 Roses, Knob Creek, and Elijah Craig were sitting there for cheaper
