Been a while since I sat back and enjoyed some brown liquor straight. Had some Chattanooga Whiskey BiB and it did not disappoint, though I did cheat a little bit and put a whiskey stone in it to chill it a bit. Big fan.
I like the 10 and 15 a good bit. The Van Winkle 13 Rye is very good, but I prefer the Bookers Rye over it
that's not an unpopular opinion. In this thread most people would agree with you on this issue. And you knew that going into the post. You just wanted some likes
Maisanos sold his store and I've been pretty butthurt about it. Finally went in to meet the new owner yesterday. They have a loyalty program now that I signed up for while there. There is a separate email chain for the loyalty program and the more you purchase, the more access you have to allocated bottles. We'll see how it works, but theoretically it sounds like a good idea to me. They had WSR for $38 which is a rip off, a shit ton of BT which IDGAF about, ECBP was pretty expensive, and ECTB. KLuke Toasted Barrel was $120.
Their 91 proof is the bottle that sits in my office. For Fridays, or when the zoom meeting that could have been an email needs more "coffee."
I prefer the watch, car and crotch pics on my local facebook whiskey club feed. This thread has been serious lacking
Ew, hot take: Carribou Crossing is wretched stuff. Maybe I just don’t like moose juice, but my bottle just sits collecting dust..
at $49 is was only purchased as trade bait or to give to someone who has yet to experience it's bang averageness. Some people are still willing to pay $100-150 for it.
Never had Canadian Blantons. Speaking of Canadian juice Seelbachs is releasing a couple of Found North today. Heard really good things about them.
I know I am not the one to say this, but the Hell Diver seems expensive and "hyped." Also if you read the bottle notes on the single barrel, the review seems weak, but I may be reading this line wrong. Is he referring to the notes review or the actual assessment of drinking the whiskey? If it is the latter, that's a hard no for me if that is all they have to say. I am also pretty sure I saw Frank Dobbins (BourbYourEnthusiasm) or David Thomas Tao comment last week on these being average. If you know these guys they don't like to put down anything, so that is about as close to a negative review as you will get. "This Barrel pick was done by a local group of Whiskey enthusiasts based out of Denver, Colorado. We hosted our largest event yet, with 50-60 attendees, doing our first barrel pick entirely as a group. At this event we tasted 5 different barrels that represented two different seasons of casks. The majority of the all attendees voted for the Season 3 blend, Matured in 2nd Fill American Oak, Char 3 cask, which (if I remember correctly) originally was filled with Found North Batch 001 Rye release. This whiskey was a total crowd pleaser, and appealed to a wide range of palates. Here are some tasting notes a member described "The palate had a good amount of peppery spice and some sweet caramel and honey notes along with a super heavy mouthfeel". Nothing too crazy, but it's something to start with! He is a very well respected whiskey reviewer based on reddit." I am also very skeptical of anything that makes its way into Forbes so soon. That just screams publicist or pay to play that could be driving this hype. https://www.forbes.com/sites/chrisp...dian-whisky-redemption-story/?sh=44d48275601b
I also am not a big fan of finished whiskey, so another strike against Hell Diver for me. I asked David and Frank if they have any feedback. Waiting to hear. I have become somewhat friendly with David. I am tasking a group of people to a Broadway show he is producing (Illinoise- The Sufjan Stevens album) and we are supposed to have drinks with him after.
Well I tried to grab one right when it went live. 2 minutes after and it was still saying available soon and then a moment later it was sold out. So that was pretty suspicious. Whatever I guess. They saved me from myself.
the whiskey riot festival i posted about a last week-ish was AWESOME. if it comes towards a city close, i highly recommend it. some of my favor sips were penelope rio, widow jane 15 year, old elk cigar, old elk wheated n rye, breckenridge had a good pour (i think their rum finished), and there was a few more that stuck out but i need to figure out what they were
You can get most of that stuff on the shelves around here, especially at big specs on broadie lane. I can keep an eye out for you if you want
how is specs with their online inventory? it seems like totalwine does a good job, but not sure on specs
damn, noted. i'll head that way this weekend to see if they have some good stuff. if you hear/see anything, lemme know.
It gets very good reviews especially the last batch. If you like sweet finished products with a lot going on, it is great. I am a little biased against anything amburana because it is way too sweet and cinnamon for me. The honey does balance it out, but with a different type of sweet. It’s worth trying if you can to see if it is your thing.
They are really great glasses and my wife likes them which is a plus. The glass that Leeroy Jenkins! got me is also a great glass.
If you’re not wearing an ascot and chewing whiskey while wearing an ascot, you’re not doing that stemware justice.
This just showed up and she is a beauty. Hopefully comes close to my other RC TKO, although that is from a super short barrel of ONLY 42 bottles and it is also hazmat.
