I don't go to them. Don't trust other people to have dogs who behave after hearing some stories around here. My dogs are great with other dogs, and get to hang out with a pack of dogs at a friend's house pretty often instead.
This is Oliver, 10 week old Lab/Coonhound mix, little hard to tell but he has shephard-like coloring, black up top and lightish brown on the bottom half. His foster mom says he has an awesome personality and is very vocal. Look at that face!!
I never had an issue in NYC, only positive things to say. I have never understood why an owner would bring their dog to the park if they knew it was going to be a problem with the other dogs. It is immediately evident if the dog is going to be a problem.
team fuck dog parks because I like to wear out my dog myself. He plays with other dogs on campus but gets his exercise hiking, skiing, running alongside me while I'm biking
He is a beautiful dog. I hope he finds a home. If I didn't have 2 already and live in California. Keep fighting the good fight. You're doing the work we all should.
I feel dumb for not knowing this, but when you "register" your pet's microchip, are you just paying one of the services to put it into the national database? Teddy was chipped before we got him, we got a brochure from a company called Avid, which apparently is a pet tracking and recover service. Is this who i should register with, or is there something different I need to do? Thanks Fam
This is Dudley, one of our newest acquisitions at Pixel. We think he is a Hound/Bully mix, but most of the time we are guessing when we pull them from a shelter. The smooth short coat lends itself to that mix, along with the squarish head and muzzle. Going to be a beautiful pup. Roughly 14 weeks right now. This was him on his freedom ride a couple weeks back, the rest are from today at his foster's house -
Check with the shelter or whoever you got him from. My guy was chipped by the shelter. I just assume they put in my contact info. If not, probably the shelter's info.
This little guy is coming home with me tomorrow (although he looks like this now) Name will be either Hank or Bennett. He was rescued at 2 days old when a hawk tried to carry off one of his littermates and his ma was nowhere to be found. Likely a GSD/hound mix. He's 12 weeks and been fostered his whole life after being taken in by a puppy rescue nonprofit in Atlanta. Already house trained and crate trained and sleeps through the night. I've got 2 more weeks at work and then I'm taking a month off to spend with him and train him up in between jobs. Tips appreciated. I'm super exicited but a little nervous for my first dog that is my sole responsibility. Had two dogs growing up and lived with roommates for years with dogs, and excited to have one of my very own.
dude congratulations, he is beautiful! Much German, so Shephard. Best decision you will ever make, and thank you for rescuing! This is the place to come for tips, most important thing is to get them on a schedule and stick with it, that will help him be more comfortable right away. Big plus that he's already potty trained. EDIT - I vote for Hank!
Yeah, that's what pushed me over the edge to go with this guy. I'm expecting some hiccups but not starting from square 1 with potty and crate training was a huge plus.
may well turn out to be, he was one of the ones we rescued off Death Row in Tallahassee so there was little info on him.
and the other main advantage of a foster based rescue group, which I use as a selling point for Pixel every day, is they are already well socialized, with people and usually with other dogs, sometimes kids and cats too. There is no substitute for that.
I used to take beaux every day when he was a puppy and I lived in an apartment. I stopped going after he matured and started getting an attitude with certain breeds, mainly the breeds that attacked him as a puppy at the park(huskies, chows, and any intact male). Also he's a loud player and sounds ferocious, but he just makes lots of noise when playing, and that draws a lot of attention from other dogs and owners then things usually go downhill from there. We have a yard he can play in now and he gets to play with my brothers dog once a week or so as well at doggy daycare. I'd recommend taking a puppy to dog parks for socialization though.
I want to widen the reach of Pixel's marketing and fundraising, so I've been thinking about streaming the kittens and puppies on YouTube as well as doing a Patreon channel. I'm learning about the logistics of both and doing a lot of research, but it would be really nice to have a primary source. Never having done online video, I'm wondering if any of y'all have ever done content creation online in terms of videos, streaming etc. or if you know anyone who has that might be willing to answer questions about technology they use, the ins and outs of the different platforms, etc. TIA fam.
In the last 2 weeks, Millie has twice peed in the bed during the middle of the night. The first time it was storming really bad so I chalked it up to her being scared, but still a little odd. Then last night it was perfectly clear out and she did it again. I did some reading and saw that spayed females (moreso with Springers) can have bladder problems due to lack of estrogen after surgery. There is medicine they can give but I'm not sure I want to start that already. Also, it can be indicative of a UTI. She's almost 3 now, but even as a puppy she never peed inside. I'm fairly confident she's not getting up and circling in the bed and peeing. I'm pretty sure she's doing it in her sleep. She doesn't seem to be in any sort of pain whatsoever and is eating, drinking, and playing like she normally does. I guess I will call the vet and see what they have to say. Any experiences similar to this? Haven't posted a pic of her in a while but here's one from a hike last week:
My uncles female lab/Shepard has that issue. She's on pills now to help. Used to just pee in her sleep. He said his vet told him it was because she got spayed too early or something along those lines.
Moose was fixed on Thursday, picked him up yesterday (we were at the beach, left him at the vet to be cared for after his surgery) and he destroyed his cone of shame within an hour of picking him up. Stopped at the dog store on the way home and grabbed the $50 XXL soft cone which has been much better. ' He fucking hates it of course. Forgot to snap a pic, will rectify when I get home.
I remember when Truman got fixed I was looking forward to having a drugged up low energy puppy. I figured he'd be pretty low key for at least a day or two after the surgery. Nope, he was just as hyper as ever. Keeping him bottled up for two weeks while or however long it was while his surgical wound healed was awful.
Yeah he isn't calm at all. Having to keep him calm and on a leash in the back yard to do his business is rough. Also there is no way to keep him off stairs, so I have to make sure he does them slow and steady. He is used to taking stairs 4 at a time
Ok, last week I posted about some shepherd mix pups that we rescued from a kill shelter, here's some brand new pics. Their foster mom says they are doing great with house training and getting along well with other dogs, still trying to figure out the cats. EDIT- there are 4 total pups, the top two pictures are the two at one foster home, the rest of the pics are of Baloo and Kaa, different foster. But they are all from the same litter.
And this is Broadway, he was a Pixel pup back in 2015 and got adopted, but he's back with us now because his owners got divorced. He's about 3, so adorable.
