Not but have a couple of buddies who love them. More consistent than Heist is the word. Resident Culture is another new one in Charlotte getting hype for their NE IPAs.
I'm in the Raleigh area fwiw My parents have a mountain house that requires me to go by Morganton/FF but it hardly ever works out for a release
About 20 minutes or so. I've been and love it but I didn't sign up for the club in time so I've missed most chances at bottles.
There are still overages from the club. TBH, the only reason I have yet to get any is that I've been dealing with a bad stomach ulcer for the last month or so. I'll get one for you when I finally go during a release day.
NE IPAs are spoiling people. Had a new local IPA the other day that I thought was really good. My friend said it's "too bitter." I was like what do you mean too bitter, it's an IPA that's the point? Then I realized it's because he drinks nothing but the Trillium style stuff now
I get trends change but I hate people that act like we have to turn our back on whatever came before when there's something new. The name of the game is variety IMO; more the merrier
I see nothing wrong with a trend that turned bitter and overly malted IPAs, into beers that are more fruit forward and don't taste like brown sugar water
You don't see the style that much but I've had a few that were good. Been a while but I used to like this stuff back in the day; 7.3% ABV
THEY ALL TASTE LIKE GRAPEFRUIT! It is interesting that 4 years ago nobody paid attention to can dates on IPAs and people turn their nose over something 4 weeks old. Guilty as charged here.
I love a black IPA. Local brewery had one as one of their flagship beers but they made it occasional a few years ago. I was disappointed, but then they started to turn around the rest of their beers and start focusing on more seasonal and small batches, so I can't complain any more.
Is there a good beer store in Asheville short of going to individual breweries? I'll be passing through next week.
High Branch is great, I highly recommend it. NE styles are awesome but they have a coffee stout called ninja slippers that’s also very good. I’d recommend getting there soon. It’s right next to another spot too, but I didn’t have time to go in, High Branch cans sell out in hours like Heist. My girlfriend is from Hikcory I get to FF fairly often and usually have people to get me releases. A lot of people I know are in their club or whatever it is.
