So the gym in my apartment building has 2 Pelotons and 1 Expresso. People were using the Pelotons so I gave the Expresso a shot and really liked it. Rode one of those virtual reality courses like here: I really liked the gamification aspect of it as I found myself really pushing myself to catch and beat other riders. Does Peloton have anything like this or is it all virtual classes?
Did the 30 minute HIIT with George Hincapie yesterday. Goodness. If you sort by hardest on 30 minute rides, its number two. It definitely earned that spot.
Yeah no I think I'll avoid the classes from the guy who was on Lance Armstrong's racing team for a few more years, not quite ready for that
The jist of it was 5 minutes of 30 seconds on 30 seconds off at 95% max effort and then two different sets of 5 minutes worth of 15 seconds on 15 seconds off at standing sprint. If you ever want to make 15 seconds feel like -5 seconds, thats the ride for you.
That was years ago and I am pretty sure he no longer puts the saddle time in required to stay at that form. Plus, you will be doing the workouts based off of your efforts, not his. The structure of the workout is there, his output will be higher because of his fitness level but it is about the intervals and training your body to do things like adapt, recover, process lactate. All good stuff. And this is both look at me and anecdotal but I kept up with Lance on a ride in October that featured plenty of climbing. If you work your ass off and stick with it, always pushing yourself, your aging body can achieve a shit ton.
Saw a billboard for these things and did some googling. What. The. Fuck. Isn't half the fun of spin class the camaraderie? Are people so disconnected, anti-social and lazy they're buying an ipad stuck on a stationary bike? Jesus.
Alternate way of looking at it. You already have family and friends you choose to spend time with and this will literally save you hours weekly that would otherwise be spent getting to and from the spin class.
Or you don’t live in an area with access to a place with spin classes like that. Or you’d rather do it on your schedule. When I’m working out I don’t give a fuck about other people hanging out.
The purpose of working out for me is to get healthier. Fuck camaraderie. I don’t go to the gym to make friends or hang out with friends. Unlimited spin classes are like $200 a month they run about $30 per class. I couldn’t afford that. I got one because it cuts my cardio workout time in half and saving that time is a huge deal to me. It makes me feel better that I don’t have to leave my family for 2 hours a day and I can just workout at home. If you don’t understand it don’t get one. Please don’t come itt with a bunch of bullshit.
A BIG reason a lot of exercise programs fail people in the long term is there's not social aspect for it. That is part of the appeal and drives the long term success of people that do group exercise classes like crossfit, bootcamps, and personal training. A TV and a hamster wheel eradicates that social structure and you've got a $2000 towel rack in your house after 6 month that you can only use normally after subscribing to a service that keeps you, alone, in front of the screen. Its not bullshit dickpie, its real. Post pics of the towel rack in 6 months thanks.
Damn it sucks Peloton is going to fail because every single person works out the same way and are motivated by the same things
Company will do fine imo. From the posts ITT, they've got an extremely effective marketing department.
I'm just going to assume you don't have a wife and kids. If you want to stay healthy and time is a constraint you'll see the value in this product. As a person who has worked out independently 5-7 days a week for the last 20 years this is a matter of maximizing the limited free time I have to stay in shape. I only use the bike a couple days a week when I don't have time for the gym, and my wife does the same and it has proven to be incredibly effective way to fit a 20-30 minute workout into a busy schedule.
So you’re going to come into the thread to fuck it up? Dude seriously fuck off. I run by myself, I cycle by myself I go to the gym by myself. No one needs to read your meathead bullshit.
Unless anyone has an objection if he continues I am going to thread ban brolift. I don’t think anyone wants to read his bullshit
When I work out, I'm completely and utterly disinterested in anyone around me. I like to compete against myself and/or a number/time/max to reach. I don't need some numbnutz telling me about his gainz or cheering me on. That's the shit that would drive me away. Guess I need to completely change the way my mind works so that I can fit in.
But that hardo said your doing it wrong and it won’t work for you because you don’t work out the same as him
Another thing there is a “social” aspect with Peloton. The instructors and the leader board kinda tricks my mind into thinking I am not alone. It is not as monotonous as doing cardio at the gym like I originally thought it would be
Completely agree. Much more mentally engaged in what I'm doing. Really gives the experience of being in a class.
https://cadence.pelotoncycle.com/connect-peloton-account-strava-motivation Stupid question but did you tighten the handle?
Dennis Morton ride from 1/8/18 - 45 minutes interval and arms ride had the lady in the second row with a glistening chest. Whish she was in the front row for a better view.
It’s like a hiit class but 20 second sprint followed by 10 sec rest for 10 minutes straight. You do that whole circuit 3x in 45 minutes.
My trainer was just a towel rack for 1hr 55min. I guess brolift kind of has a point as it has already been a towel rack for over 17 hours this year.
I got 103 last week that felt like a lot I’ll try again this week but I might not since I took today to rest after about 11 days of 2-3 rides a day.
Yeah. I logged more than that regularly prior to getting married. Gonna be a rough few weeks to months, but I’m gunning for you, Sir.
I welcome the challenge but you better come strong because when I hit form, it gets a little ridiculous
I’ll max out at 7-10 hours a week tops... unless the wife catches the bug & wants her own bike. I don’t see that happening though.
