Whatre the best breweries downtown right now? I've been to the original great divide and Crooked stave but nowhere else
Spangalang is great and often forgotten. They are in Five Points but you can take the D Line light rail right the plaza they are in. Honestly not blown away by many of the true downtown Denver breweries. Think many get overhyped. Crooked Stave is really good for sours/wild ales though.
RiNo beer garden was great. Some hipster dude from the neighborhood was bitching about how the crowd has changed and its not all neighborhood people anymore, but the crowd was fine. Good beers, good food we tried At the woods boss brewery now, headed to sancho
He seemed kind of poor and maybe homeless so he mightve been living in a shanty over there somewhere for a while
As I continue to live blog my trip, I just got the handheld burrito from the bakery place in Central Market. That thing was fucking massive for the price. Good on you baked in rino people
With all of the new apartment buildings that have gone up and are continuing to go up, I think we are going to see a decent drop in pricing in the rental market. My girlfriend wants to move in together and move from my 1 BR to a 2 BR in the same building so I was looking at pricing and the price of units in my building has dropped by something like 20% since signing my lease, and it's a reasonably full building.
Spending this weekend in Denver. Planning to go to Avanti for lunch tomorrow with a few friends. Anybody have any alternatives they’d recommend checking out if Avanti is packed?
I've been here for about a year and went to Ophelia's for dinner for the first time. That place is great
Denver Central Market is a similar, better concept but you'd have to hop in an Uber to get there from Avanti. Within walking distance you've got Root Down, Linger, Lola and Highland Tap and Burger. Recess is another decent option nearby, but it's more drinking oriented. The food is passable there but won't blow your mind.
Sassafras also always has a long wait and isn't really near anything else while you wait. I'm lucky to live a block away from it, but I probably wouldn't go very often if I didn't.
Usually more like 45 mins+ for me, especially in the winter when people don't want to sit outside. Talking about the Jeff Park one, BTW. I forget that there is one in Cap Hill too.
Thanks all. This thread is a very helpful for Denver recs btw. Read the entire thread earlier in the week.
Staying in downtown boulder next weekend and looking for a good place to eat. Was thinking ten ten brasserie.. anyone have any thoughts on that place?
Can’t speak to ten ten but I will shamelessly plug The Kitchen or Next Door Eatery, as I work for them in our corporate office in Boulder
What about the kitchen upstairs? Not a serious question, I love all of them. Sounds like you have a sweet gig. Also, Ned, I love the Boulder Pizzeria Locale and enjoy blackbelly a lot too
Anyone out there have any friends/relatives/etc. that are accountants and interested in a job in the restaurant industry? My company (The Kitchen Restaurant Group) is about to have an opening in our accounting department. We're going to be looking for an Accounts Payable specialist. Not hard work, but just detail oriented. Don't need to be a CPA. Probably would be a temporary role off the bat with the chance to become full-time if all goes well. Office is in Boulder so if any of you guys know anyone that might be interested or would seem to fit the bill feel free to PM me.
Forgot to update this post. Ten ten brasserie was fantastic... probably a top 2 or 3 meal for me in Colorado. Also the people in boulder were wonderful all around. Wife lost her wallet near a liquor store. It was returned to a credit union, then the police, and was overnighted to her in texas.
not denver but if any of you have kids y’all should check out the ice castles in dillon an hour drive and well worth it
Some phenomenal concerts upcoming this year. Lots of awesome stuff at smaller venues. Love the music scene here.
Hey Denver pals, So my fiancé and I moved from Colorado for my job here in Florida. Lived in Denver for three years and loved every minute of it. Six months here, and we're already homesick and looking to get back to CO in the next year or so. Right now, I'm a Sports Director/anchor at a local news station. Four years in this business total: managing, video editing, camera, social media experience. Also have close to two years marketing experience before I got into this biz. To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what I want to do yet. I do know, the hours are terrible for sustaining a family, which we hope to have in the next couple years, and sports in local television is becoming extinct. Indeed.com is overwhelming when looking for jobs. I have a lot of interest in the outdoors, PR, video shooting/editing. Not really sure what I'm looking to get out of this post, but figured I'd throw it to the wind in case you guys living and working in Colorado have any suggestions.
No suggestions, but I also miss CO after having moved away 6 months ago. Not ready to move back though. I moved to Denver looking to find a job in my field (specialized legal field), and was unable to find anything suitable. Best of luck in the job search. Denver job market is tough/limited outside of the service industry.
I’m planning on making a few shows at Red Rocks this summer. What’s the best area to stay in that is somewhat close and has restaurants and breweries nearby? TIA
Golden is the closest with all those options. But you could also just stay somewhere around downtown Denver and get to Red Rocks via Uber/Lyft relatively easily
Or he could take something like Bus to Show or any of the other party bus companies, depending on the show.
If I were you, I'd look for transportation to/from Red Rocks and book lodging based on the other things you want to do besides RRX. Just be aware that Uber/Lyft after a show has the potential to be expensive, but could also be a normal price. It's hit hard to predict, so if you'd rather spend that extra hundo on edibles then look for a party bus. There are plenty.
hello denver gang. wife accepted a job in Denver and will be moving in two weeks. might already have a place lined up, but what areas do I want to avoid? what food and drink places (been to Avanti, know that one) do you all recommend? thx in advance
That area has blown up the last few years. Denver is mostly safe, that said, I’ve had a gun stuck in my face basically right in front of my house in five points (25th and welton) and there have been some bad shit go down in River North (RiNo) recently too.
My girlfriend lives in the apartments above the King Soopers at 19th and Chestnut. Gets frustrated with the bummy nature of that area especially with having to walk her dog over there. I’ve been here for 3.5 years and lived in Uptown (20th and grant), Cherry Creek (right next to the mall), and in the Highlands (32nd and Zuni area). Highlands spot has been great for the year I’ve been here. Walk ability is great and just feels nicer than a lot of the Downtown areas.
Yeah, so it looks like we might just do a sublease of sorts at the aforementioned apartment then find something long term. Have heard good things about Highlands and Cherry Creek. Let’s get up when I get settled.
Not Stapleton or Aurora and you’re already doing yourself a favor I live in Arvada now (bought a house a couple years ago), but used to live off South Broadway near intersection with Alameda. I really liked the area down there. Lots of walkability to bars/restaurants and access to light rail into downtown. It’s evolved even further than when I was living down there.
