I may have drunkenly decided to name him Thanos so I can walk into doggy day care and say . Or if the girlfriend complains about something he did. Plus he's got that wrinkled chin.
You have to walk into the daycare and scream that at the top of your lungs at least once. Also half the dogs in the daycare are now destined to be eliminated
One of my pups has already started to blow out his coat. Started a week or two ago so I think we’re on the back end for him. I had to wash my sheets twice this week. Now he’s going to finish and the other will probably decide it’s her turn.
Also, if someone on here has a little more time, and is more sedentary in how they like to deal with their dogs, there was a pair of dogs with an awesome story needing a home. A small bull dog and the smallest sharpei I have ever seen were found as strays near ft worth. Like seriously, the mini sharpei is insanely cute. Here's the catch with these two best friends. The sharpei, who's about 3 years old, is completely blind. The bulldog acted as her seeing eye dog for an extended period of time on the streets. Its like homeward bound except they haven't found their home yet. They are literally the friendliest of both breeds I ever seen. I would have adopted them myself but I do a lot of hiking in the mountains which can be scary enough with a dog that can see, with Ciana i suspect it wouldn't work out well. To break them up would be a crime. here is the link in case anyone is interested http://www.sharpeirescue.com/adopt/available-dogs/adoptables-in-america/texas/ciana.html
Alright fellas. Wish I would have introduced you all to my best buddy Brutus a long time ago, but I just never got around to it. Brutus has been a vital part of our family for over 14 years. My (now) wife and I got him two years before we got married. He's been here for the birth of our two sons. He's been just about the best buddy a guy can ever hope to have. But, as life is cruel, today is Brutus' last day with us. His body has been shutting down over the past week or so, to the point that we need to show him mercy. As we all are when we find ourselves in this situation, I'm a complete mess today. Gonna be a tough evening on the TimJimothy back deck, but we'll get through it. So if you're going to enjoy a beverage tonight, please take a moment and enjoy a sip in honor of Brutus the Pug. Until I meet you on that rainbow bridge buddy...
I'm sure there are worse feelings in life but I haven't experienced them. Thoughts are with you and Brutus man.
Very sorry for you and your family. You are a good man for making the hard decision and showing him the mercy he deserved. RIP Brutus
beautiful pup, i'm really sorry man. I had two pugs back in the day and they are awesome, can't wait to get another. Will have one for Brutus tonight.
We've had Beaux for 10 days now (August 11th, 8 weeks old). And he's a great puppy and everything we hoped he would be. BUT he doesn't like to go walking, even if its to the end of the driveway while I get the mail, or to go outside to do his business. He just literally lays down and doesn't want to move. Is this normal? Has anybody had experience with this with their dogs? TIA
My retriever was similar. I would suggest carrying the dog away and then walking back home to get him used to walking on a leash.
I know we have a Ridgeback owner in here... I have only ever seen paintings of Ridgebacks working a lion, first photo I have ever come across. Pretty impressive animals.
Handsome retriever puppy you got there. Enjoy his lethargy. I suspect it won't always be that way. Get back to us in a month or two with an update. He's still pretty young. Does he play with you guys in the house and everything?
That's me. I imagine the hunting of lions was phased out before photography became more widespread so you definitely don't have many pictures of them in action doing what they were bred to do. Some people use them for other hunting though, hogs, birds, and other small game, so there's a decent amount of photo/video of them at work out there. My male is scared of our neighbor's 5 pound cat though, so I know he would be useless in a hunt. He looks scary though and has a crazy deep bark, so he does the trick as a guard dog (not that I need one).
I do not own one but have seen them first hand work cattle and hunt hogs. They are not the ideal breed for either of those jobs but based on their athleticism alone were able to pull their weight. Beautiful animals
Thank you. And absolutely, He's literally pure energy for hours on end and then sleeps for an hour right away. Runs and runs and runs like a wild hyena and is so much fun to play with (besides the "nipping" with his teeth but he'll grow out of that). Already beginning to sleep in his crate at nights which is awesome
We see this a lot with pups that come through Pixel, most of the time its just a matter of them getting used to it. We just had one who went from not wanting to walk at all on the leash to being fine in less than two weeks, I asked her foster what they did, he said they let her wear it in the house and just run around with it on to get used to how it feels. I would only recommend you do that when you are right there with her to keep her from getting hung up on stuff and freaking out, but it should work well. Also, any time I have trained a dog for walking, working on "leave it" and the like, I use a ton of training treats. If the dog is food motivated at all, they work wonders. If he lays down, put a few treats in front of him so he has to get up to get them, making sure you are holding the leash at the time. Once he will stay on his feet, hold a couple treats in your hand with it closed and the palm facing him, leash in your other hand, and start walking slowly. He should follow the treat trying to get it, and voila he's walking. Its a bit of a slow process but it will click eventually for him.
Thanks for the kind words, fellas. Been a tough week. Thinking of Brutus in the past tense just hasn't sunk in...not seeing him in the morning, when I get home, etc...all of the day-to-day stuff that he's just not here for anymore. That's all tough. But maybe the toughest is watching my 10 and 6 year old sons deal with it. They've been 'okay' during the day, but there are definitely tears at night that I can hear. We'll get through it, just like most of you all have had to at least once before. But damn it ain't fun.
Damn man. And here I come in here for the first time in a long time to say my girl is getting that white big time on the snout. Sorry
In early July we lost our 10yr old boxer Lennox and today we put down Sissy, our other 10yr old boxer. It’s just one of the worst hurts I’ve experienced. I feel like we were cheated, as Sissy started getting sick just before Lennox and declined so fast the last month. She was jus so weak today and was skin and bones. My wife thinks she waited for me to get home. She passed away before they could even give her the injection. Fought all the way to the end and finally gave in. They were our kids before we had a kid and we’ll miss them dearly.
