dblplay1212 is Bear still trucking along? If so, how old is he now and how’s he doing? I know he was at least a year older than Jimmy.
Yea man he's still kicking. He turned 10 back in June. He'd been doing really well until the last 6 months or so. He started having trouble walking, we just thought he was getting old and our vet was treating him for arthritis. One day he just couldn't stand up. He'd yelp when I picked him up. Took him that day to the doggie chiropractor and everything checked out fine so we took him to the neurologist. He did an MRI and they found he had a huge infection in his spine. They tapped that and found it was a bacterial infection. They put him on some antibiotics and within 2 days he was back to walking. There's some permanent damage so he still walks slow and can't jump and climb like he used to but he can get off the couch to get food and water and get over to his bed so he's happy. It's not like he was ever the most active dog to start with. All things considered i cant complain, well except about the vet Bill's. He's my guy though so it is what it is. I can replace the money, cant replace my dog.
Sorry for the loss man. It's part of having a dog but fuck man it sucks. Just remember the good times. I still miss Brewser daily.
Fucker can still guilt you into table scraps with the best of them. We had burger leftover tonight that was supposed to be lunch for wife tomorrow. Bear had other ideas. Wife will have to make other lunch plans tomorrow.
In honor of the boxers, here’s a great picture from our first house when they were puppies. Had people over for a Bama game and put them in their bedroom and closed the door only to find this at halftime.
Glad to hear he’s doing better. Enjoy it and spoil the shit outta him. Would kill for another night on the couch with my bud. I have GSD’s and they kick ass, but man I miss my Bully snuggles.
Your post actually made me do just that in bed last night. He used to sleep on my pillow but a few years ago he started laying across my legs. No clue why bc it can't be comfortable. Sucks for me bc I can't move at night. I can't lay on my back bc my kneecaps are too hard for him so I have so sleep on my side/stomach so he can lay across the back of my knees. If I try to roll over he'll scratch my legs until I get right. As much as it's a pain in the ass at times, idk if I could sleep another way now. I don't even want to think about life without him. Just going to enjoy the time I have left bc I know at this point we're on borrowed time. Bullys just don't live much longer.
Groot does this (quads) and I love it he is like a foam roller. Glad bear is doing well. I feel like I know him.
lol hand to God I told him last night that the internet asked about him last night. Wife rolled her eyes and went back to sleep.
As a fellow TMBer currently going through this pain, I'm extremely sorry for your loss. It just ain't fair.
Just had to do this with my new dog. He had never seen a TV before and when I turned it on he looked right at it and started hate barking. It was late so I turned it off so as to not bother the neighbors but yesterday spent the whole day with it on. He normally never leaves my feet at any point but the second the TV came on he would hide in the kitchen behind the island. Figured he would just get over it so just left the TV on all day. Nope. He would come, look around the corner suspiciosly, see the TV, hate bark and retreat to his refuge. Finally I turned the TV off, grabbed some of the good treats, sat down with him on the floor in front of the TV. Gave him a few treat pieces to get him warmed up, then put a treat in my fist, he could lick at it but not quite get to it. At the same Time I turned on the TV. He growled but then I let go of the treat and he ate. I repeated this process about 5 times and now he growls at action scenes but I can talk him down. Never had a dog who actually watches the TV. He will stare right at it. He's a trip. Introduced him to the dog park and my quality of life went up dramatically. He now sleeps through the night. Mostly.
First part is working out really well. Letting him wear it a lot more than before helps a lot. He has gotten used to it easily now. He just keeps getting tangled around things while running around and not understanding out to get "uncaught" lol. But that's normal for a pup. Second part, you are right its a slow process. Which im very patient with him (still only 9 weeks old) so I get it. But I have seen some progress so we will see. Once again, thank you for recommending this..
Whelp, my Aussie has figured out out every way to escape his pen except just jumping over. He can jump onto the kitchen island, jump over the the back of the couch and land on the couch, push it over but wesging it where the tile meets the carpet. Now he just jumps on the island for fun. Gonna have to break him on that habbit. He is coming along training and does well if he has his e-collar on. Still pup though. He refuses to snuggle and it drives my wife crazy. Can't be still unless in his pen, crate, or placed. Wife wants him to sleep with is so bad but he is just too crazy right now.
I don't want to come off as a bad dog owner, but it drives me fucking crazy how often my vet wants to see my dog. He's almost 10, and all things considered is in great health. He takes aggressive allergy medicine, and has for his entire life. With his medicine, he's fine--without his medicine, he itches like crazy. The pills are $300 for 100 pills--pretty much $1,000/year. The vet tells me I can order through their website and they'll be sent, but the past 3 times I've tried that, they delay my order say "his blood work is overdue, we need to see him again." Pretty much not giving me his medicine until I bring him in. Motherfucker, he's not going to become un-allergic. He will require this medicine for his whole fucking life. It drives me fucking crazy that on top of the expensive medicine, I have to pay another $2-300 for a visit for them to tell me "yep, he still needs allergy medicine." I ordered a re-fill last Wednesday. Still haven't received a confirmation email. Just call them, "oh, he's one month overdue on blood work." I refuse to get mad at the staff for just relaying vet's orders, but it's fucking bullshit that I have to spend another couple hundred every time I need his medicine re-filled. /rant
Have you looked at Publix for the medication? I saw something in an email the other day saying they have a lot of Pet medication for free
I'm taking him in this afternoon, and going to be very honest with the vet---I'm not bringing him in 2-3x year for you to tell me he's still allergic. This is a fucking racket. They tried to sell me on a dog flu shot last time I was there. Only $200! GTFO
Yeah me too. My vet is awesome, I took my dog in because of a torn dewclaw and they advised me to just tape it up and give it a chance to grow out a little so they didn't have to sedate him to pull it the rest of the way off. Didn't charge me anything at all. My beagle had a stomach virus after I spent $600 removing a cancerous tumor and they gave me her antibiotics and the visit for free, said it was a complication of surgery and covered under the original visit; no charge. I'm gonna move clear across town and will probably still drive my dogs 45 minutes over here to this vet.
it is weird that they choose to die on the Apoquel needs bloodwork twice a year hill. It does have a damaging effect on the liver just like any hardcore strength prescription really, but once a year bloodwork should be just fine. It's not like it is Rimadyl or another NSAID. I agree that the dog should go in at least twice a year though, especially since he is a 10 year old boxer. My dog is on the medicine as well and the vet I work for just requires you to be seen every 6 months so she knows that the dog is doing well enough and something else hasn't popped up. I assume it is Apoquel BamaNug since that is one of the only prescription strength allergy meds out there
there isn't. There is a shot called Cytopoint that lasts about 6 weeks, but it is probably not any cheaper and might not work as well for your dog depending on its allergies.
You need to find a country vet. I can call my vet and talk through symptoms and he will call in the Rx if it isn't anything too serious.
Have any of you guys tried any sulfur pastes on your dogs allergies? My grandpa used to mix sulfur powder and lard into a paste and rub that into the hot spots. I have seen it do wonders on dogs and horses. They make the paste pre-made now called Nu-Stock.
So I’m about to make a move to atl in a couple weeks and will be bringing beaux with me. He’s been living out in the country for the last 5 years, and I’m a little worried about how he’ll handle suburb life. He barks at any loud noises and is used to being able to run around outside. I plan on taking him on walks in the morning and at night to keep him active, but I’m not sure what I can do to get rid of his barking habit, since I’m sure my roommates will quickly tire of it. I’m going to get him a thundershirt to help him adjust to the move, but the barking thing is a whole other issue. Any ideas? I’ve got a bark collar, but I don’t want to keep it on him all the time.
Hey guys I am running a half marathon in October. I am trying to raise money for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Hopefully you guys can donate a few bucks. None of the money goes to me. http://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR/Heroes/Heroes?px=4942214&pg=personal&fr_id=87329
