Go with the Carolina King. Adds several inches in width and can fit in the master of most doublewides
Couldn't sleep last night so I posted this around 5am, at which point I looked and was about a foot from the top of the bed. I think I subconsciously gravitate towards the foot of the bed, as there's no real cause for being near the edge. So far, we have no ornamental pillows or any of that BS since we're basically using the bed I got in college It's weird, Cali King may or may not fix my feet-hanging-off issue, but again it helps the feng shui of the room and the thing has been ordered, so Cali King it is
Last time we discussed, she asked me if I knew of any websites from which we could buy a bed, and I was an asshole for telling her I'd rather go look in person so we can check out quality, etc. This is also my fault and I am the reason we are having to go out of our way to find a bed. We haven't discussed alternatives since
i also hang off the end of a normal king but when i had a california king sheets cost like 3x as much
The whole bed thing to me is a sham. Going to these stores and laying on them trying to decide what feels best and picking some huge bulky heavy frame to go with it just seems cumbersome and expensive. I purchased a Casper bed in a box about 5 years ago for 850 bucks with a few hundred dollar slat base and frame. Apparently Capsers have 10 year warranty that I found out about a few weeks ago. Picked up a new slat base for it, as I qualified for a replacement mattress after 5 years of use, and am good to go. Seems way easier than all the other stuff, cheaper too. Spend 1k or so every 5+ years seems like the way to go to me than the latest Sealy posturpedic sleep number maximum ultra mattress and box spring to me.
I have an Avocado Hybrid mattress that I absolutely hate.. for about 2 years now. First year it was ok, wife and I hate it now. I don't know what to do. I don't care about buying another bed, but deciding is an absolute bitch
I sleep on a slab of granite which geologists estimate to be between 66 million and 208 million years old. So far it's holding up well.
That's how I feel about my tuft and needle. Short term solution was to buy a good mattress topper and the best body pillow money can buy, then switch from back to side sleeping. Long term solution is to buy a new house with 1 more bedroom so I can dump it there
Really happy with my sleep number - I want to get one of those old people ones that raise my head so I can watch TV more comfortably.... and also will help with the snoring when I sleep on my back.
Why? We’ve had zero problems with them for 5 years and apparently qualify for a replacement based on their warranty. They are significantly cheaper and the frames they use are far more portable for anyone moving. Still waiting for the crock of shit I guess.
Team sleep number here. We had a temporpedic(or however you spell it) and I hated it but the wife loved it. Too soft for me. Anyways, convinced her to switch and she hates the sleep number because it won’t get soft enough. Bought her a fancy soft topper and she still hates it. Oh well, guess we will be buying two separate beds next tine and pushing them together
Why do you say that? Mattresses have one of the highest markups of any consumer goods. A lot of the "mattresses in a box" actually cost more to manufacture than their in-store counterparts.
research is coming out on those being worse for your body than other mattress types. i just moved and ordered a new mattress, so i spent hours researching this stuff. my old mattress was a mattress in a box and i slowly grew to hate it. ordered a sleep number bed this time and can't wait till it gets delivered next week it has nothing to do with cost or anything like that. just the tech behind it isn't great for you in the long run apparently
See, you lost me there. I have a hard time believing a “15 year old best mattress ever 15 years ago” is better than a Casper mattress I ordered 6 months ago, or the effects of both on my body. And as I stated, if you replace the mattress in a box every 5-7 years (at the price point that seems completely reasonable) I don’t really see the “long run” argument. I’m a PT by trade. I would love to hear what technology behind it is going to be worse for my body over time that is only unique to box mattresses and isn’t true about a number of other models discussed ITT.
One of the biggest tempurpedic manufacturing locations in the world used to be about 30 minutes from my house. Those employees were in for a shock she Sealy bought out the company. What did they do first? Turned all the foam mattresses into foam/coil spring hybrids. Why? Because Sealy built their brand around coil based mattresses. They have a vested interest in keeping the world believing the foam is the devil, or at least a full foam mattress. And that’s part of the reason tempurpedic mattresses don’t rank nearly as high as they used to. Any employees unwilling to backpedal on the idea that foam mattresses were superior to hybrid or coil only mattresses were quickly re-educated or sent out the door. The “off gassing” that coil spring mattress salesmen talk about happens with the synthetic components of their mattresses as well. Are there cheap places that are making their mattresses with things like formaldehyde? Yes. Are domestic manufacturers required to analyze a mattress from each lot for the total amount of off gassing? Yes. Though it doesn’t always happen, I’m sure. Pre-buyout, you used to be able to go to the factory and buy a foam mattress that the only defect was a 1” by 1” hole cut in the packaging where the meter was hooked to measure off gassing. They were like 80% off retail, but you were limited to one per year and there was typically a Black Friday style line of people waiting for one.
when i have time i'll find them. don't feel like doing all of that again right now if you're churning through them, i'm sure it's fine. although 5-7 years seems like a longer time than i would spend on those mattresses just seemed like the best bang for your buck is actually spending the money and investing in your sleep with a sleep number quality mattress. not trying to argue with anyone, i just know that people need better sleep and it seems like these cheap options aren't really providing that
This is quite the backpedal from And, like I said before, the "mattresses in a box" are only "cheaper" in the retail price sense.
