It’s not even that I like doing it. It’s just that I haven’t figured out the right way to do both. I’ve had games that I have a decent military but I also don’t know how to use them properly on scouting and patrolling etc
2 and a half hour draw against the ai just now still trying to figure out how to control my units. once the armies get big theyre just all over the place
Use control numbers for unit grouping and if you control right click it makes them attack anything they run into on the way to their destination.
Anybody in this thread play any of the paradox games? Vic 2/EU/HOI? kind of the next level of this shit. All are less micro combat oriented and more diplomatic world building type games.
Play EU4 a lot. Trying to get into Imperator Rome now but its not ready. Stellaris is not that interesting.
Nice; I started with V2 and haven't been able to get into anything else. CK2 especially seems crazy intense.
I’ve been practicing the fast castle build order. I can do it correctly with no mistakes about 5% of the time. And then in the unlikely event I make it to castle age, I have no idea what to do next. Usually just start making knights and raiding the AI base.
be sure to only use this strategy when you’re in the pocket of team games or on maps where you can protect yourself really well like arena or black forest
i still have so much to learn about all of the civs that we’re added post-conquerors expansion anybody been favoring civs from forgotten empires (slavs, italians, incas, indians) or later?
This is what is intimidating me from diving fully in...I haven’t devoted the time to learning the new civs
none of the new civs seem gamebreaking, which is nice. been looking over this website in my free time to catch up https://aoe2techtree.net i don’t know what the metagame is like in multiplayer these days, so it’s hard for me to choose which civs to practice with. like the berbers look really nice because of their UU, but i don’t know if there is still cav archer spam in 2020
also, do you know of any good communities out there? jplaYa gimme the youtube channels that I'm too lazy to go back through the thread to look at.
the only one I know of is reddit, there are a lot of memes and stuff but it’s active and there’s some good information if you dig around jplaYa has been hyping hera’s YouTube channel for as long as I can remember and it’s really helpful. Spirit of the law is extremely informative on mechanics but mostly for fun because so little applies to in-game scenarios. T90official does lots of great streams for pro players
You will get to a point where just playing will help you more than the time you spend watching someone else’s tutorial. I used to also watch my replays when I was trying to get better. I used to find myself watching pros and be like man I’m so close I “know” what I’m supposed to be doing at every step of the game. The difference is me knowing and my hands and fingers doing are two different things.
T90 is hosting a huge tournament this weekend so it’s a good chance to see what civs all the best players use.
All map dependent of course. But I've heard/read multiple people, I think including T90, say civ choice isn't that important to people at the level most/all of us are at. And it's better to pick one and stick with it. jplaYa's point about playing vs watching seems like a good one. Although, TBH, I've probably watched at least twice as much as I've played since downloading DE.
I like watching the t90 noob casts. He picks apart the people as bad as me so I actually learn some stuff
Same. I’m so bad that it’s more enjoyable to watch the super high level players. I’m loving this tournament so far. There was a pretty incredible game yesterday between Kotyan Khan and Sheriff of Nottingham.
I got lucky and the map was arena so my fast castle strategy got me off to a good start. But then I completely fell apart once the fighting started. Had a couple good moments and made him destroy 6 castles, though.
yeah multiplayer is a totally different animal, you rise or sink to your natural ability and can play more competitive games though which is nice
Yeah I figure I just need to lose a bunch of games so I can start playing against people who are as bad as me.
Did you watch Sheriff Nottingham vs Kotyan Khan? Just ridiculous Personally I think it's kind of a silly mechanic and you should have to complete construction to make an obstacle. But none of the folks in the low levels games I've played have used it, so I'm not going to worry about it.
