It’s insane, but what a pretentious ass: “I think I should keep from wearing it so scholars can see what an unused piece looks like and study it.” These are made to be enjoyed and worn. If you’re not doing that, you need to reevaluate. Otherwise it’s just hoarding.
Got the Daytona back in like 2018 before the wait turned into an absolute shitshow. I think it ended up being a year or so, which isn’t bad.
The John Mayer ones are really good. He's really big into it. Super random but Howie Kendrick I guess is a huge vintage aficionado. Alton Brown had an awesome story of how he tracked down his late father's Tudor on ebay after years of searching.
GQ said Mayer in the biggest influencer in the watch community. He at least has an argument. He basically convinced IWC to change their entire Big Pilot line with one letter.
Yeah I thought I knew of every reason I was jealous of John Mayer until I saw his watch collection and I realized I was wrong
Just watching reddit watch exchange and you can see prices dropping significantly already. Also seems like there are some scammers trying to jump on people thinking there’s opportunity to get deals. This one seems sketchy to me - had it on most days but claims to have never worn this one? Skeptical.
Tell me more about this... How much wiggle room does one generally have purchasing through an AD? I’m used to only haggling for cars and houses.
Holy cow I would not buy anything without it being put in escrow, but I'm not sure how much (if any) protection PayPal would provide. No way.
I’m embarrassed to say I’m tracking 5–10 watches across a number of sites. Want to pick up some stuff and will if I see some items dropping.
Very good looking watch. Very good. Make it with something better than a Miyota and make it not an impossible to get limited edition and will kop. Love me some salmon dials.
So I realize that Longines isn't considered elite, but I've had a crush on a particular model for a while. I see it on eBay for less than half of retail and $900+ less than Crown and Caliber. Looking for any thoughts/cautions from the group. Here's a pic from the Longines website $2,850: Crown and Caliber listing ($2,000): https://www.crownandcaliber.com/products/longines-master-collection-l2-629-4-78-3-10-10-lng-5luy96 Ebay listing ($1,075 with zero bids and <24 hours left...I think the listing expired when it was put up before): https://www.ebay.com/itm/LONGINES-M...sh=item2ae58a59fb:g:LIkAAOSwzhxa4gEE#rpdCntId
Anyone who's looking for a great watch under $1,000 check out Boldr. Really really good specs. ETA 2893, 300m water resistance, ceramic bezel, meteorite dial. https://www.boldrsupply.co/collections/all-watches/products/boldr-globetrotter-gmt-meteoblack https://www.boldrsupply.co/collections/all-watches/products/boldr-globetrotter-gmt-blue-red
Another less expensive option using SW-200. Love the rotating inner bezel. Very good looking watch. https://www.boldrsupply.co/collections/all-watches/products/expedition-eiger
I might be tempted to spring for that salmon dial. I’ll wait to see what the initial price is as they always offer an early bird discount.
yeah I believe I saved ~$150 on mine with the early bird. I have larger wrists and can’t really pull off 38mm well but I like what we can see of it
Longines came in today. I'm really digging it. The pushers are a little tough, but I had read that is not uncommon in the watch. Now I need to make sure I don't go crazy. Already eyeing my next one...
I hate most of their special editions, but think they hit this one out of the park... especially since they reintroduced the OG 321 movement. I absolutely love it.
I like them both. I haven't handled either of them and I've learned finishings vary so greatly between brands that I can't really pass judgement on them. This makes my pee pee hard, but a lot of Longines are uninspiring and plain but they make some very beautiful pieces
Since this is now the ***Official Longines Thread*** this is a very gorgeous watch. Can be had for $2k which puts it in a very interesting segment of the market where I think you'd have to go up at least $1000-$1500 to do any better. I am obsessed with chronographs now so it appeals to me. Also despite it's best efforts, I still love America and I love red white and blue.
Yeah I guess you never really know until you handle it in person. I’ll never make the mistake of buying a watch sight unseen again unless it’s a microbrand in which case I have no choice, or I’m completely confident in the brand. It’s probably worth it to save up $1,500 more and buy a Superocean or Seamaster or something.
Went from, “Holy shit they have the Longines heritage diver I’ve been drooling over” to “Welp, I saved myself $2k” I was so disappointed
My gracious. Such shit they make you buy white gold to get the blue face. https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-126719-gmt-master-ii.html
White gold is for Big Ballers™ only. To the vast majority it appears to be nothing more than stainless steel. Little do they know, you are really a Big Baller™
