Always loved Alfred. He probably has the most character depth of any character on the show, as most are fairly one dimensional. Disclaimer: that's my only gripe on the show, and it is absolutely a favorite of mine.
After finishing season 3, Alfred did redeem himself a little bit, but I stand by what I said. Great character, but he and his cunty wife just pissed me off a lot
Alfred was a great character. Never knew when he was going to go all pious king or reluctant ruler who’s willing to bend his morals.
The flip side, I think she's a pretty terrible character -- she is pretty one dimensional to an irrational degree.
What bothered me the most was how seemingly ungrateful they both were for everything Uhtred did for them and their cause/family
I am. Which is why I said earlier that Alfred redeemed himself, for the most part. He was still very much unwilling to give Uhtred much credit until the very end. His wife continues to be terrible
Doing a rewatch, Haesten is such a fucking loser. He's a solid 0 for 5 in battles and a coward. Need to kill this bum off quickly.
Through one ep of season 4. Kinda hard to keep with all the Aels characters. DESTINY IS ALL WHOOOAAADNDJEJELSDKFNDNDKSKDNDKALSKRURUDOSNFJFLDKHEHEHEHEHEHE
The children aging 10x the rate Uhtred does and some stuff is cringe worthy but I fucking love this show. His daughter is awesome and looks just like Gisela
Only on episode 5, so avoiding the thread.... Who is Uhtred's kid's mom? Same for his daughter and son? It's not Brida, right? I don't remember Aflred's daughter having a daughter herself? Does anyone else? Season 4 is my least favorite thus far fwiw, but I still love this show so it's all good.
Alfred's daughter got knocked up in s2 when she was with Eric The Viking Uhtred's kid's mom is Gisela - she died in the first ep of s3 giving birth to Uhtred's son. her brother was that dufus from s2 who betrayed Uhtred and sent him to be a slave on that ship where he met Finan
yeah, my least favorite season. liked the kids, liked edith, liked the new dane baddie but the season was all politics.
Wish they'd given Brida a better reason to be TO'd at Uhtred. No one would seek revenge on someone for not mercy killing them, because that person cared for them too much -- at worst, they'd think them a coward, not seek revenge. The kings daughter, Aethel-whatever, didn't hold it against her guy.
I really enjoyed this season but thought it ended a bit flat. normally kids on shows like this are a drag, but I thought both the son and daughter were good characters.
I think it’s been pretty well established that Brida (and most Danes) would rather die in battle than live as slaves.
For sure, but to want to seek revenge like she does seems strange. He didn't not kill her because he was trying to be cruel, and she knows that. Also, is Brida actually a Dane, or is she from Bebbanburg too? It's been so long since the first season that I might be all mixed up.
she’s a Saxon by blood (but just a servant family) and a Dane by everything else. I think the point is that finding out that Knute betrayed Ragnar and having to kill him while being pregnant with his child and then have that fester in her while tortured by the Welsh, just broke her. she went from trying to keep Knute from acting rashly out of emotion to the complete opposite with his cousin whose name I won’t try to spell.
It was quite refreshing to see a season not end in Uhtred outfoxing a bloodthirsty Dane. I enjoyed Sigtryggr a lot. I kind of want to see how Wales is involved in future seasons. Great season and I think it was really clever writing to see Brida literally do the thing she’s begging Cnut not to do early in the season. I feel there’s just so much left to do in the show. How many seasons are planned?
Yeah there is a ton of show left and I am hopeful they will continue it instead of trying to rush it. Rewatching from Season 1 now
Hi guys! Started this one at about lunchtime yesterday and wrapped up season one and I’m on to se2ep2. Not anything spectacular quality wise but it’s hell of a lot of fun. Really hope they’re done beating Uldrich into the ground so much going forward because they’ve made his bounce back game so strong and everything kinda feels ineffectual. Digging it tho roll tide
I breezed through the series in a couple weeks. Love it...a lot of stuff happens with very little filler. Big fan of that
Yep. It’s one of the main reasons I love the show. It’s action and plot moves at a normal pace. Stuff happens quicker than a lot of shows that could have plot lines resolved by a simple telephone call.
Finished season 3 last night and agree totally about the pacing. I don’t wish every show hit fast forward like this show does but works well for this one. I do believe it puts you in a position to have to fill in your own narrative approach though. I think you have to convince yourself that Alfred was deserving of Uhtreds admiration there at the end because the show gives you little reason as the viewer to come to that conclusion on your own. Alfred was absolutely loathsome twords Uthred.
