i like this post, you guys have some issues but what country doesn’t? At least a portion of the population realizes it and try to make things change.
Is that why they’re coming here? The one guy said “what is good about the USA?” I said “ask the people risking their lives to come here”.
it means maybe you’re not aware of the role the US has played in making those countries the way they are
went to Cuba a few times over the last 10 years and it’s a goddam shame what the us politics did to that country. That place could be heaven on earth
Look at the countries with the highest refugee or immigration requests per capita then look at what we've done to destabilize and hurt those countries It's just a self serving narrative to ignore that
I think it’s a good time to reflect on what actually made this country great, unlike what the current slogan is promoting.
You guys have a good one, this might feel like turning 40 since it’s a rough time in the history of your country with a lot of introspection but you still can be proud to be mericans. Just get rid of that fucking yellow clown though, let’s start with that.
i find it even more bizarre when the elderly who've seen the backslide happen even more starkly be like yeah ok good job everyone
While I agree with all of this, they can’t take away our ability to watch ID4. And that’s honestly the best way to celebrate anyways.
I agree, I was really going for the nice guy approach and it backfired here. I will just shut up now.
As an adult I’ve never celebrated the 4th as a celebration of America. I’ve always had some sort of movie marathon with my kids. I originally started it to get their minds off of fireworks so they wouldn’t feel weird or left out because I didn’t want to celebrate.
I love this country. Endless opportunity for anyone willing to put in the effort. I know quite a few immigrants who came here with nothing and now are extremely well off. I love seeing all of the people from all backgrounds and races coming together to make this country better for everyone. I don’t think anyone plans on stopping this push for change. That is something to be proud of. This year has been horrible yet I’d still rather live in this country than anywhere in the world and it isn’t close. If that ever changes I can move but I don’t see that happening in my lifetime. This is the greatest nation in the history of the earth and it isn’t remotely close.
Kyle knows if he moves anywhere else in the world his big fat dumb white ass won’t have the privilege he has here
you honestly believe that? has this country ever faced so many major crises at the same time? Disregard the bungled/callous response to the pandemic and the devastating impact it is has had on the country (and how we compare to legitimately all of our peer nations).... Before this pandemic even started we were in the midst of an existential climate change situation that we're completely ignoring. One of the truly great things about the US, our incredible wildlife/wilderness areas/etc are being threatened like never before both on land and in the water. We have seriously damaged our relationships with longtime allies and eroded our standing on a global level. Major attacks on voting rights. Student debt preventing young people from buying homes. Medical bills crippling families. Housing inequality. Sanctioned police brutality. A total abandonment of the arts. Huge cuts to higher ed and institutional research and STEM initiatives. And then you have the attacks on minority groups and the efforts to seal the country off from immigrants that seem to be the main objective of one of the two main governing parties. And that is all off the top of my head and I am sure I'm missing hundreds if not thousands of things that threaten this country and its people where is the positive predictive value you are finding? Were Jeff Francoeur still in MLB today, I'd expect him to lead the league in BB% before I'd expect this country to come out of this stronger starting to really dig into Duolingo's Spanish program in hopes latching on somewhere in South America is an option down the road
I’ve faced the daily reality that there are several countries with democratically elected officials and “freedom” that supported its people financially and kept them healthy during a global pandemic; and I live in one where the idea of economic freedom has been perverted to mean the freedom to exploit. Not to say we didn’t already know this, but being hit in the face of it during a pandemic daily is a tough way to usher in the day we’re supposed to celebrate those freedoms.
And yeah for the past decade or so always felt weird about the gross amount of patriotism we pumped through on 4th of July and pratically every other day. This one feels especially depressing seeing how so many stupid brainwashed inbred redneck morons and their institutions are actively helping kill tens of thousands of people.
the greatest lie ever perpetrated amongst the American People Is this it’s not effort or opportunity but mostly birthright
I mean, we’re not Finland/Denmark/Norway type good but we’re at least in the... I think top 15-20. As a lifelong Canes fan top15-20 is my happy goal now.
