Right, why are we having cops bust down peoples door in the middle of the night over drugs? That is moronic. Almost this same thing happened a few years ago with exactly the same result. No knock raids are a problem https://www.vox.com/2014/10/29/7083...-police-killed-civilians-dangerous-work-drugs
how do these dumb fucks that are “trained” empty multiple clips and not even hit the person shooting at them they shot into other apts and a woman laying in bed
It's way harder to shoot a pistol accurately than movies make it seem. And police training isn't good enough at all for the level of responsibility they have.
Agree. The whole idea is insane and they breed issues like this. When you live in a country where a large % legally have guns for home protection, you can't go busting into houses in the middle of the night and expect people to be woken up and not protect their home. And I mentioned it a few weeks ago, but it's insane that we raid houses for weed like we did for Bin Laden. I mean what the fuck.
it’s almost like they shouldn’t have free reign to unload clips at a fucking apartment complex if they’re not trained well enough to do so
Why not just wait until they wake up and walk out to their car? Only time raids should be used is if there is an imminent public safety issue.
I said committed a crime, but even if I’m not being nitpicky, the charges weren’t for killing the person.
Drugs should nearly all be decriminalized and then those sorts of interactions would never happen. The war on drugs has been just the most recent example of widespread systemic racial oppression of black people in this country.
That's where it gets tricky. Who? The state officials that legalized no knock warrants? Bc if you follow the trails, that's who is ultimately responsible.
What should he have been charged with? Like I said earlier maybe you could get a reckless homicide charge but thats essentially the same thing as the wanton endangerment charge but less likely to succeed.
1. Physically and financially oppress a race for several hundred years. 2. Make them all move into specific neighborhoods through exclusionary covenants and Jim Crow. 3. Not hire them or fund their public schools sufficiently leading to widespread poverty. 4. Fill their neighborhoods with drugs. 5. Throw their men in prison when they take and sell those drugs through desperation. 6. Their kids grow up in broken homes and even more poverty. 7. Put those kids in jail (through disparate arrest rates, conviction rates, and sentencing compared to their white counterparts) or ignore their deaths at the hands of the police and the gangs that have sprung up because of the drugs and fatherless children 8. Blame the group for their plight. 9....... 10. Racism?! Yay!
fwiw no knock warrants by plainclothes officers are ven more batshit insane than a no knock by uniform cops.
Going to have a hard time getting that when the cops were fired on by someone in the house. If it was a situation where they just burst down the door and opened up fire that probably would be the charge.
Thats a defense for the shooter, it doesn't change what is required for the police in this situation.
So if the shooter was not breaking the law by having a gun or shooting, how did the cops have any justification?
The cops were serving a legal warrant, they entered the premises, were shot at, and returned fire. The police weren't acting illegally so I'm not sure how well a stand your ground defense would even work. I don't know enough about that doctrine in Kentucky.
I disagree. When they returned fire, they were doing so illegally. They created the dangerous situation, and Breonna Taylor responded within her legal rights. At no point did Breonna Taylor break the law. Ergo, the police could not have been justified in using deadly force, as there is no crime occurring.
Cops are going to start getting shot during routine traffic stops because at some point black people are going to have to start defending themselves from being murdered for being black and I'm here for every bit of it. I'm done with equality. I'm ready for revenge.
So serving a warrant is creating a dangerous situation and if police serve a legal warrant, they can be shot? If thats your position you're not going to find a lot of legal support for it.
My true colors? A guy shot at the police who were serving a warrant and unfortunately an innocent bystander was killed. The case was taken to a grand jury who returned charges against an officer. I don't know why people are trying to make this into something the facts don't support. They didn't illegally bust into a house and shoot someone in their bed which it seems some people believe.
I agree with that 100%. Like I said earlier theres no reason at all they are serving a search warrant on this guy when they could just take him into custody in the morning. Raids like this end in tragedy way too often and are completely unnecessary.
They weren't serving an arrest warrant. They suspected that Breonna Taylor's ex boyfriend from 2 years prior was having packages sent to her apartment which turned out to be false. So they acted on shoddy intel, fucked up the no knock warrant, and according to 11 witnesses didn't even identify themselves as police upon raiding the house. They fucked up in a massive fucking way and there's no accountability for any of it.
You're right it was a search warrant which makes it even dumber. Its stupid we live in a country where we are told we need to own a gun because at any moment our homes may be broken into and then also have a police force that is asked to go barge into peoples houses unannounced.
And even dumber when systemic failures lead to the death of literally innocent people who were doing nothing but sleeping in their own bed we're told, "Eh, what can you do?"
This may be a dumb question or may have already been addressed, this thread is pretty tough to stay fully updated: Are there no established penalties for body cameras not being turned on? It seems like you could have a mandatory penalty of some kind for not having it turned on at all times. And if the excuse is the footage is lost - that's seeming absurd. I have to maintain a month of footage of all cameras in all of my venues for LAPD/VICE in case anything ever happens but police don't have the same obligation? Doesn't solve the problem but it seems like that would at least force some additional accountability.
So we're just ignoring the cops broke into the house unannounced? That feels like a part you are intentionally leaving out, but it would be hard to get all those boots in your mouth with all the facts. Its a great country where cops can just show up at someone's house and act like its their right to shoot the fucking place up. Maybe people should just start unloading on cops when they see them since there are no rules.
Obviously the answer is to just start shooting, and if they're cops, well they chose this profession...
if I am wrong correct me, but didn’t they either go to the wrong house or get some incorrect information for the warrant? Didn’t they lie about her being shot and who shot her? Didn’t they attempt to get the boyfriend to lie about her involvement in a criminal organization?
