Some mix of Ken Dorsey, Matt Leinart, and AJ McCarron. Could see him having a lengthy backup career a la McCarron or get into coaching after a couple years a la Dorsey.
I can easily see the Texans shit show trading Deshaun for picks and drafting Mac in the first round, so maybe Urban was just calling to read him his last rites and make sure there weren’t any hard feelings
It’s funny because when he hits everyone itt will say they were just trolling. It’s stupid fucking easy to see that a guy with Macs skill set could be successful in the league today and that’s coming from a guy who gave him shit from the first time he trotted his dopey ass out in the field in long football pants.
It’s also really easy to see a guy that doesn’t have a strong arm and has a really small body of work. A body of work that is now 7-on-7’s and playing for one of the best CFB teams of all time for 1 year with a 2 first round WR, a first round RB, and an OL that wouldn’t let him be touched. None of those advantages exist in the NFL. Can he drop dimes or jam one in tight window with guys in his face? Literally no one knows because from Bolles to Bama he has never had to show that.
I think he’s shown plenty but I guess that’s up for discussion. He’s incredibly accurate and has incredible anticipation and those are the exact things that make guys without zip and velocity viable in the league. You add the fact he’s a winner and a calm leadership presence in the huddle I think he’s a much easier play than a Jordan Love. Sure he threw to 6 but here we are tryna figure out if 6 is actually worth a shit because he won’t weigh in. Shits exhausting and Bankz smells like feta cheese
Worth reminding folks that he led three scoring drives in the second half of the title game with no Smith and a one-legged Waddle He’s more than his receivers.
So was the surrounding talent a big question on Burrow last year too? He had the best oline in football, a 1st round RB, and what could easily be 3 1st round WRs to go along with the Broyles award winner at OC.
No, I’m just using Burrow as a comparison to Jones. Burrow didn’t have any of the outstanding physical traits that helps get a QB projected as a 1st rounder and he entered 2019 being thought of as maybe a day 3 pick. Then he lead one of the best and most talented offenses in college history and it rocketed him to number one overall. Given the similarities between the surrounding talent of 19 LSU and 20 Alabama, I was just wondering if it was also a question on Burrow.
In what way was he a way better prospect? I’m not trying to say Jones is his equal or anything, but kinda like Jones, Burrow was an afterthought as a potential NFL QB until the perfect storm of the 19 season. He doesn’t have any physical attributes that make him stand out and he didn’t showcase a rocket arm like a Mahommes or Newton. So given the crapshoot that is drafting a 1st round qb, what was it about him that made him a clear choice without any questions
Took me a while to drop in and see it, but no, no I wasn’t. Thanks for randomly thinking about me though. I don’t take pride in the fact that I live in messageboard losers heads.
100% this and it’s the biggest difference between the two. Burrow was definitely throw first, but when he tucked he was deceptively quick. It’s one of the things I’ll be looking to see if he recovers after he rehabs.
Not sure I would even waste my time with him as a UDFA in the NFL. He had an elite OC, OL, running game and best receiver in maybe a decade He only looked good because he didn’t have to worry about being hit more than once a game
Find a clip of him showing NFL arm strength. I'm a huge fan of his, and I've said I think he's going to go in the first round, but the thing that holds him back is his arm. It's not *weak* necessarily, but the question is whether its strong enough.
Unless the Pats trade up high to get one of the top QB prospects, I will be mad if they draft another QB if Jones is on the board.
his 77% completion percentage, many to receivers down the field and in stride tell me everything i need to know.
Or watched Joe Montana’s entire career. Arm strength matters, but accuracy matters more. It’s why Montana has a bust in Canton and JaMarcus Russell is getting busted for sizzurp in Mobile.
I already got “no true Scotsman”-ed on his throw to Metchie vs. A&M, so I don’t think it’s really going to matter. Apparently to have an NFL arm you need to hit receivers in stride 60 yards downfield.
It takes farther for NFL receivers to get open. There's a huge difference between today's game and when Montana played. There's a reason guys with big arms are getting shots (and becoming more accurate over time).
You absolutely need to be able to do that to be a successful NFL quarterback. Shit, Mac could gain arm strength and be fine. But, he's going to need to gain arm strength to be fine.
I will make a bet with anyone in here right now that Jones has a better NFL career than Christian Hackenberg. Bet me you cowards!
No, I'm fine with taking a chance on him in the 2nd round. He's got a really nice deep ball. I don't think arm talent is an issue. Him not being mobile and also lack of starts is concerning
