He's better than Tua, but probably should be a 2nd/3rd round guy. Could see a team jump into the late 1st to get him just so they can have a 5th year.
If Daniel Jones can be taken in the first then anything is possible. Probably a decent value in the late 2nd round.
I voted 1st rd but don't think he will be a "franchise" generational QB. My vote is more accepting that QBs in the draft go sooner than they should
Mac and Trask talent-wise should be third rounders. Mac will be the fifth QB taken in the first round (guessing Pittsburgh soon as Big Ben’s retirement is official). And Trask will get way overdrafted early/mid second. He’ll never be a full-time starter and best-case be a Chase Daniel. And he’ll unfairly be blasted as another Gator QB to underperform in the league. Even tho he should never have those type of expectations.
He’s significantly less talented than like every bama QB over the past 15 years and they all fail in the nfl, so probably not
A better way is probably just rank the QBs on the order which you would take them since GMs are dumb and overdraft shitty QBs all the time.
Mac was fantastic in college. He was in a great system with a lot of talent around him and ran the offense about as well as it can be run. He just had one of the greatest passing seasons for a QB all time. That said, no way I'm taking him in the 1st. I don't think he has the physical tools to play in that league. He's extremely accurate and has high football IQ so maybe he makes it work but I wouldn't gamble on it that early. Someone probably will though bc QB's just go early.
Is his height really a concern? He's 6'3". If anything, I thought his physique made of unbaked dough would be a bigger knock.
He has above average arm talent, is an excellent decision maker, has excellent anticipation and is calm and poised. I think worse QBs have been taken higher than I think he will be which will probably be in the first round.
I think he potentially played himself into the first round. It really depends on how many teams are looking for QBs, and how much those teams value mobility at the position. There’s no denying his accuracy at all levels, and his decision making is solid (granted, DSmith made him look smarter than he might be, by grabbing damn near everything).
real answer is that i won't be shocked if he's taken in the first because of every nfl team talks themselves into taking qbs way early every year but i'd run away, his arm strength isn't elite and the windows in the NFL are going to be 1/10th the size of what he was throwing into in college. just going to be a big adjustment period. brings nothing to the offense as a runner which is increasingly important.
