I was impressed by the premium AWD Mach E’s acceleration considering it’s the same size as my Crosstrek, which measures 0-60 in hours.
I just test drove a Mach E and was impressed. Fun to drive. Didn't feel like I was driving a crossover.
This car will always hold a special spot in my heart. This was peak childhood coolness, from the V8 rumble to those tweed-like seats.
1988 5.0GT was the worst car I've ever owned. Uncomfortable, skittish rear end, no visibility, lousy electrics
If consumers demand EVs, they will provide them. Never said their goal was to save the environment, but that is the obvious draw of EVs
Just did a build since I don’t know much about it. Thats actually surprisingly affordable. what’s the cost comparison on electric to gas on fuel savings?
My guy might have scrounged up a black/black that is coming tomorrow. I’ll take that if it’s there. Maybe we’ll be an all MachE family.
I’ve owned a 2017 Nissan Leaf and now a 2016 Tesla Model S that has made at least four trips to the coast in the 8 months I’ve owned it. AMA As for the plugs, every automaker but Tesla will use a standard plug for fast-charging in the US, and the Tesla has an adapter to use the same level 2 plug that everyone else uses. The Leaf still uses the old Chademo plug for high speed, but Nissan is also switching to the CCS plug starting with the Ariya this year.
We ended up buying a Mini Countryman Hybrid with low miles last year. It works great as most of our trips are <15 miles so it rarely uses gas. The previous owners were similar and got like 65 mpg. I haven’t really tried to search but the few times I was interested in finding a charging station I noticed it was all Tesla and I have no clue where to charge this thing other than home.
How would you compare charge cost to gas cost? I tried looking it up last year and found varying information.
Got it. This will work well. The few locations we regularly travel to outside our range has some great options. Thanks
Just saw that we have free 150w chargers right up the street, so imma definitely use those instead of my own when possible. Spoiler I’ll probably give up on that after like once
Figure your cost per kwh, then how many miles per kWh. If you’re getting 3 miles per kwh at .30 per kwh from a fast charger you’re paying .10 per mile. If you’re getting 30mpg at $3/gallon you’re also paying .10 per mile. I’ve seen national averages listed at .03-.04 per mile when using home chargers (or a combined average of home/public) where gas is about .10
My S is a good bit less efficient than the Leaf so I figure it averages 3.1 cents/mile charging at home. My Leaf was easily under 2.5 cents/mile, and I pay ~10 cents/kWh. When stopping at a Tesla Supercharger, I don’t know that I’ve paid more than $10 even going from under 10% to a full charge (260 miles) so figure about 4-5 cents/mile there. If gas is $3/gallon with a 30mpg car, you’re looking at 10 cents/mile.
Your spoiler is correct. Charging at home is so cheap and convenient that I only charge when I’m out if it’s convenient to where I’m going.
Been driving Nissan LEAF on and off for a few years as a work demonstrator. Love the EV drive, but we're definitely still early stages on adoption and infrastructure. The world should be looking at places like Norway, which has had huge uptake thanks to heavy taxation of ICE cars.
I am about to be entering the market for my once a decade vehicle. I despise buying a vehicle because they do not hold value. Living in rural Alabama, should I even consider an EV option or is this just asking for sorrow? I have wanted a truck for a little while and I will be using credit card points for this. I do not want to feel like an idiot for saving for years for this purchase to be virtually free and then feel like I made an awful decision. I am clearly not the most informed on this, but looking at the Hummer EV (because my MIL all but worships her hummer) and the least expensive one was 80k. I would love to buy less gas and would pay for that value up front, but 80k on a vehicle is not happening if I win the powerball ten times in a row.
EVs (at least Teslas) tend to hold their value insanely well. The big thing about going to an EV is your daily driving range. For battery health, you wanna use about 60% of your battery for daily purposes (not really going above 80% charge and not going below 20% charge). So you need to take whatever range estimate the model is showing you then take 60% of that normal for your daily stuff. If that range then works for you, go with an EV. If it doesn't, then I feel like (at least as of today without more quick charge vehicles available) you are about 2-3 years too early.
Yes. My business capital one card has a lot of cash available. I have never spent any of it. Been saving it for years so the next vehicle would feel free. I realize this is semantics, but I usually buy a car and drive it until it falls apart then rinse and repeat.
hoping in the next 3-5 years the charging systems are up to speed locally, right now it'd be a sizable burden but I also really want a Mach-E
Don’t get a Mach E or Model 3/Y until you test drive a Polestar 2. Just like anything non-Tesla at this point, road trips will continue to be an issue. But if it’s not a big issue for you, it’s worth a look. Fun as shit to drive, beautiful design and a better appointed cabin than the other options.
I'm getting me an ebike or scooter for most of my commuting and then in 2 or so years junk my old elantra and get something ev.
2010 Jeep Commander with 194k. My goal is 300k on it. By then I will be able to use the credit card points to buy the new vehicle. Had a Camry in college that I put 250k on. That vehicle took more drunken abuse than any vehicle in history. For that reason, I doubt I ever buy a non Toyota again. The jeep was a bargain or I probably would have gone Toyota instead. Not a guy that believes in chasing a car payment my entire life. Really obvious that a lot of you guys don't have a 40 mile drive to work. I have no idea how you have a ten year old vehicle not even close to 100k. Good for you guys though.
And I’ve had 40m commutes in the past. If I had one currently, I’d 100% have a Camry or Lexus equivalent (probably Lexus and swap in a CarPlay head unit.)
Funny, but seems like the charger should be the mouth. Butt should be the mouth but it doesn't seem like there is one
