Yes, it’s normal for riding the bike to make your ass hurt. No, you don’t need padded shorts. It goes away in a week or two.
THEBLUERAIDER I have the below HR monitor. My garmin doesn’t connect to the peloton. Idk how people train without monitoring their heart rate. Scosche Rhythm24 - Waterproof Armband Heart Rate Monitor HRM Optical with Dual Band ANT+ and BLE Bluetooth Smart
what did you get already? Bluetooth headphones and slightly heavier weights for the bike classes that include arms and shoulders (7-10 pounds).
I don't know what is more accurate (I choose to believe the HR monitor) but since adding that my calorie burn went way up. I mean in a lot of rides I am sitting in that 4/5 zone a ton.
Lol I felt the same way until I did an arms and intervals type class. I mean for classes on the bike anything more than 10 pounds would be cumbersome and probably too heavy. They assume you’re using 3 pound weights so the movements are geared for smaller weights and 4-5 minute intervals with no rest is taxing. Also I’d hate to try and ride with heavy weights. It would be too awkward. I usually do them with 10 pound weights and on days I don’t have time or feel like doing a stand alone strength class.
oh I don’t take offense to what you said and I like j said I felt the same way. I also laughed at writing that after I did. The 10 pound weights don’t even for on the weight rack on the back of the bike. I have to put them on a stand next to my bike so I can use them. I tried to use 15 pound ones but they were to heavy. I did arms bike class yesterday because of the shot and the 5 pound dumbbell I used with my left arm was heavy as fuck lol
Cheated yesterday. Put my computer on the show Devs, turned the peloton volume all the way down and watched the show while doing a 45 minute 2010s ride with Hannah Frankson. It wasn't a BS output either, I think I was in the top 20-25% range and my avg output was just under 180. Next time I'm watching TV and feeling like a piece of shit for not working out I will do this again.
The 10 min arms toning classes with a 2lb weight is a challenge most of the time. They don’t mess around.
There's a big difference between "lifting" and whatever the arm exercises you do in fitness classes are. It's infinitely easier to go bang out 4x8 sets of heavy weights over 10 minutes than it is to do 10 minutes of continuous arm workouts with 2 lb weights.
I got the family package, so two of: shoes, headphones, water bottles, heart rate monitors. I’ve got some Bluetooth headphones I use for running and some adjustable dumbbells, so I should be good.
I assume you got the mat but if you didn’t you might want one of those. Obviously some small towels for sweat and no bike shorts.
i have bad circulation in one of my legs because of a gun shot so I wear compression pants underneath regular gym short. I used to bike outdoors so I have bike shorts which I wore a couple times on the peloton and saw they were useless. The rides (generally) are too short for them to do anything.
I’ve read you should replace your pedals every year or so? Anything else I should know about like that...shoes, cleats, etc?
I know I’m late, but a few months ago I found a pair of compression/running tights and I wear those on the bike now. I told one of my friends who got his bike a couple months ago bought some and said that’s all he rides in as well now.
Any good suggestions for towels? I have a bunch of shitty towels I bought off Amazon which are good for a towel off of my face after a run or going underneath me when I’m foam rolling and dripping sweat, but atrocious for frequent toweling off during a ride.
My GF got me some off the Peloton website (I’m sure they’re over priced just because) but they’re solid for me.
Did the 45 minute PZE ride Saturday morning. Really was planning a day off, but ended up doing that and taking today off. I know it was only zones 2-3 for most of the ride but definitely feel like it’s getting easier which is good (aside from the fact I’m going to need to redo the FTP test soon). Hoping I wake up early enough to ride before work tomorrow, that way I can take the night off plus the next day off if needed after getting my 2nd shot.
How should I think about the different PZ courses? Obviously, I shouldn’t be setting PRs in the endurance rides. I took a PZ Max course today and beat my prior 30 minute PR which was a regular PZ ride. However, I just squeaked by the prior PR and I was hitting about 225% of my FTP on the zone 7 parts. I was expecting to blowout my PR. Should I not be thinking about the Max rides like that?
No typically it is harder to PR PZ rides whether a max ride or not. Compared to HIIT/other interval classes the rest periods are generally longer.
Agreeded, while you do work in higher zones you’re in those efforts for much shorter periods of time. Now that on I’m in my second set of zones though all these PRs that were PZ rides are getting smashed.
Feeling OK minus a sore arm today, so hoping to get on the bike after work even if it’s a 30min low impact or Zone 2-3 PZ ride.
These are excellent gym towels, or at least they were when I bought them six months ago... AmazonBasics Cotton Hand Towels,...
Every time I turned on the bike last week and saw what class the most riders were in, it was Kendall's 30 minute emo ride first. I'd prefer they just have ~4-5 instructors consistently putting out a hard rock / metal / emo class every other week so there's a steady stream of them, but it sounds like they realize they have a stew brewing whenever Kendall in particular does a ride in that genre. And I'm not complaining having more of those vs. picking between 20 rides with different combos of Avicii, Disclosure, and Lizzo. Saw she put out both 20 min punk-pop and metal rides yesterday
I think I fall victim to wanting to do new rides too much and forget there is huge library of rides. Check out some of the things older rides that you might have missed you might find there are plenty.
I have done 1 class where there was a live class/audience. I didn't really like it because when I joined, the new stuff was solo instructor in the empty room. I might be in the minority, but that is how I like it.
I get it. I obviously joined before the pandemic but it’s been so long that when I take an older class it feels weird to see the crowd. I will say there is some nice eye candy in the crowd sometimes.
