I tend to believe this guy wasn’t on the Bail Projects’ radar until the GoFundMe went viral. Then they swooped in for the kudos.
Seems like the aclu and bail project people haven’t showed much gratitude you did by spearheading this amazing effort, they seem more interested in who gets credit for what
Around 10:45 on Friday night the word was that his local defense attorney was going to see if a bondsman she knows would take the GoFundMe as sort of collateral Maybe the bail project was involved before that and her lawyer and I didn’t know either way he is out of jail and now will have access to a team to be able to hopefully fight this and not have to do any more time
Oh I don’t think his lawyer, nicole, had any idea. As far as I know she is/was doing this for free and was working on this on a vacation with her family that was preplanned she called me from some like vacation house where the reception was so bad that we had to reconnect 3-4x
Also idgaf who gets kudos or whatever I just want this dude to not spend the rest of his life in prison so some politicians can tweet about it to their followers
What? I'm just saying I'd give the money to Hervis, not the attorney. Let him decide what to do with it.
Same. Them going this route just opened you up to a lot of questions from random donors and that's pretty shitty.
In fairness, the Bail Project does this on the regular so if we take a step back it makes sense that it is important for them to get publicity every time they are involved. They rely on donations to do this in scale and not just as a one time thing. It would just be nice if they reached out and tried to work together though. I don't think the confusion is anyone's fault, unless the ACLU was aware and didn't help to broker an arrangement. They can still handle this better though.
Who cares if we get credit. GK and the board did something awesome, we know we did something awesome. Should be more than enough
yeah I totally get it, you’re absolutely right in the grand scheme of things…..that email just was very concerned about getting credit and having GK change his update without any mention of what a dope ass thing that was just done
I'd like to give a shout out to the $1K anonymous donor. Got to respect a person who just wants to do a good dead without taking credit for it.
People and their causes. They probably feel defensive because it is a struggle for them to do this on a daily basis. That said, I agree. That type of communication doesn't help them, but I am sure they are very emotional and passionate about what they do so it could come out wrong if the right people don't see the moment for what it is. They should have viewed this as an opportunity instead of a threat.
I don't think anyone cares about credit. None of my comments have been about credit. It just sucks that GK now has to figure out what to do with $130k and not have random people that donated think it was a scam.
It’s not about credit, it’s about making sure the donors don’t feel betrayed or wronged so they’ll donate again to worthy causes and so GK doesn’t come off as a liar doing God only knows what with the money.
It just seems there’s a little sentiment from some that we need to be credited with this. That’s not what the charity/our donations should have been about I’m confident in saying we all did this to help Hervis, not to get credit on social media. Mission accomplished.
If any of my posts came across that way, that wasn't my intention. My only concern was for GK and the "Where did this money go? questions.
100%. I understood your stance. Just think some ITT let the Twitter likes overshadow what the whole goal was
Shouldn't care if we are given credit or not, should care if GK finds himself in an uncomfortable position due to the bail situation and the original goal of the GFM
I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but that’s genuinely shocking. That’s purposefully unconstitutional.
He doesn’t. He’s just going to give it to the attorneys and let them coordinate with Hervis what to do with it. Basically any other option creates a big shit show. Also, saying that you don’t want to give the money to the attorneys because they didn’t coordinate their situation with some random dude with a GFM is ridiculous.
I mean they'd been in contact making plans to use the account as collateral, so he wasn't some random guy at that point, and then boom they went another route with no heads up. That's shitty. It's OK to say that. I personally would give the money directly to Hervis but that's just me. GK is free to do what he wants.
Some of y’all are so fucking weird. The initial ~$5000 (more eventually) came from people on this board and relatives, but the GFM gained traction from the Maddow story and Gallant Knight and others posting the link on every Twitter post related to Hervis. Quit worrying about credit when it comes to doing a good deed, do it for the sake of fucking doing it.
I dont think his attorney or anyone turned face and went another route. The bail project most likely never even contacted his attorney. There is no need to contact an attorney to post bail for someone.
I did. Didn't see one. People are worried about GK taking heat about where the money went, not credit. That's been explained.
That's fair. Still think the attorney, who had been in contact with GK, could have given him a heads up and added some type of comment to the release to show where the money from the gfm was going. No comment leads to questions.
What's the best vehicle to get the money safely into his hands while allowing the lawyers to use it? Just curious. /notalawyer
In the big picture, he's out and that's what's important. I just think they could have or even still could provide some type of cover for GK. A simple line added to the release that said the gfm account would go toward future legal expenses would have done it. Instead GK is out here having to explain it himself. Obviously they have a lot going on and it's a weekend so not saying they did it intentionally. I just don't want GK to get caught up in some shit.
The attorney is on vacation and was still willing to help GK I doubt the attorney has done anything with a release or comments at all
