Old catholics =/= roman catholics, its a schism that happened way back when, its basically a halfway house between lutherans and roman catholics afaik
I have never heard the term “old Catholics” as a sub-genre in my life, other than to refer to Catholics who are literally old people.
Unfortunate only because your current Pope is probably the least objectionable since…the inception of organized Christianity
Anyways so Rolo would have to prove he’s sincerely a part of these weird -the Pope ain’t a thing- Catholics.
And also some sort of catholic faction that doesn't believe in vaccinations right? Like he'd have to show some sort of precedent I would think.
Did they post that they granted it? Everywhere I’ve seen is that they didn’t but also that if they had that accommodations could not be made for his role.
It’s all bullshit anyway, you have freedom to believe whatever you want, you don’t have freedom to affect everyone else negatively because of said beliefs
in my humble experience growing up Catholic, the people who don't think the Pope is infallible are the same people who use their religion to justify hate toward others (racism, sexism, etc etc)
lawyers letter says it wasn’t granted but if it had been they wouldn’t have made any accommodations for him. If it had been granted I believe the lawyer would have mentioned that.
They're not catholics anymore, they're protetstants who worship King Henry VIII and the God-given right to divorce.
just saying there was some schism specifically about that subject. And yes i fully agree that people doubting the infallibility of the pope always seem to do so when the pope stops promoting hate for gays for instance, never because of being too stern
basically my mom is a big church person and isn't some huge POS so it is possible to be religious and a good person, as rare as that may be
I don’t think you can call them Protestants unless they have their roots in Luther’s Reformation. They’re Catholics. Greek Orthodox? Catholics. Episcopalians? Catholics.
seems like they use the term catholic but aren’t affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church so are they actually “catholic”? They don’t seem to believe a lot of the catholic teachings. They also appear to be more progressive in a lot of things. I doubt they are antivaxers. TBQH i fear coach rolo is full of shit.
Not exactly. They share very similar beliefs and dogma, but the heart of the Roman Catholic Church’s authority is premised on the direct line of succession from St. Peter. The Greek Orthodox shares the most in common from a belief aspect but it was more of a cultural split. Anglicans and Episcopalians had a political split that specifically rejected the Pope’s authority. Also, I like turtles.
I'll call them whatever I like. Anglicanism was part of the Reformation and is definitely considered* to be a Protestant branch. *according to Wikipedia
ow it was jsut meant as an example, there are also some eastern catholic teachings that have some autonomy in their teachings. but yeah, rolo is full of shit, which is a bummer, cuz at the very least he once was a fun interview and he did whacky stuff at MWC media days
I’m saying there are other Catholics than Roman Catholics. I didn’t say those religions are Roman Catholics, they are Catholics though.
the whole thing is if he is “catholic “ in the way we understand a person is catholic then he has no legitimate reason to use his religion not get the vaccine. The pope who is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church said get the vaccine. That’s why I said he has to be either a member of a weird sect or in your a example a religion who isn’t truly catholic but uses the word “catholic”. I’d venture he might have to prove he has never taken a vaccine or given his kids one to illustrate his religion doesn’t allow him to receive them.
My understanding is that the split in the Catholic Church was driven by arguments over Transubstantiation and whether or not it was appropriate to mount a tv over a fireplace.
yeah, i was just providing a fun tangent, but i fully agree that this is most likely not a religion thing
we’re going to argue semantics then because they aren’t catholic they just use the name. You can’t be something and disagree and not follow fundamental tenets of the practice.
Depending on what you consider the fundamental tenets of christianity one could argue the majority of the right wing does exactly this
Jones' purposeful consumption of silver, which he believed to be an antibiotic, was a preventative healthcare measure undertaken in response to fears that the Y2K problem would make antibiotics unavailable, an event that did not occur.[1] The peculiar coloration of his skin featured prominently in media coverage of his unsuccessful campaign.[2][3] Jones is reported to have said, given the chance to go back, he would do it all over again.[1] Jones is not alone in his beliefs, the use of colloidal silver has found support among some notables, such as actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Infowars' Alex Jones.[4] It can be purchased off the shelf at Whole Foods[4] However, regarding colloidal silver, the National Institutes of Health have stated that “evidence supporting health-related claims is lacking”.[4]
