is there a separate thread where Tar is discussed or was it just in here? i would love to read some conversations about the classroom scene as the big picture's pod has a vastly different viewpoint than i did
I’ve thought for probably 20 years that Spielberg has been a tiny bit overrated. After watching The Fabelmans I think it may be grossly underrated. That was such a beautiful film
I think it tried not to take itself too seriously while still wanting to be special. But it was really just full of tired tropes and plot devices as well as painfully predictable. Shitty rich people get their comeuppance…it just fell flat for me.
Yep, visually spectacular, but overwhelming to the senses, left the theater kinda shell shocked from the action. Plot lines were thin and kinda stupid. Spoiler and why didn't the water people just tell the new guy to take his family and GTFO when threatened?
I really enjoyed The Menu. Fiennes and Hoult did a great job. I still chuckle when I think about Hoult’s character’s tortillas coming out.
The new Puss in Boots is a really good kids movie. Some great action animation and pretty deep themes. Spoiler plus some really hilarious and brutal death scenes that you'd never expect for a movie like this White Noise just didn't do it for me. I read the book about 15 years ago and loved it even though I don't remember much about it now. I was a fan of curly haired Greta though. Gonna watch the Menu tonight and try and catch Avatar 2 sometime next week.
Finally got around to Tenet yesterday. Couldnt get past the lead being the shitty acting WR from Ballers on HBO. I ended up turning it off with like 45 mins left because I had no idea wtf was going on and decided to watch the Rams break my heart instead.
John David Washington is a pretty fantastic actor at this point. Have you missed BlacKkKlansman, Malcolm and Marie, Amsterdam…etc
I’m guessing that Ridley Scott gets to have dictatorial powers of this Gladiator sequel he has agreed to do. The studio cut to his Gladiator follow up “Kingdom of Heaven” was a crime against cinema.
New Ari Aster movie (most recently did the A24 horror movies Midsommar and Hereditary) Beau is Afraid. Looks weird, am very intrigued.
He gave an anecdote in the THR round table that Spielberg to this day sends him a Christmas gift every year
I watched “on the count of three” (Hulu) last night and really enjoyed it, although it is rather dark.
When the maitre d' or whatever tells the douche bros that it's a tortilla in The Menu I laughed so hard. Loved that movie.
