Same. I hate Hot Take sports. It's why I stopped watching ESPN unless a game is on. Since the Rewatchables has decided to only do a rewatchable movie 1-2 times a month his podcast has become my favorite to listen to at The Ringer even if half the time I just forward to Life Advice if I dont care for his guest.
Bill and Ryen are defo devoting an off-season episode to the suppression of white American basketballers.
no but we will get a Keyshon Boutte appearance on a pod. LSU player who goes to Ne? That’s catnip for both
Tatum is great, probably a future MVP But Bill believing that he “hasn’t even scratched the surface” of the player he’s going to become is absurd.
“not to compare him to LeBron but let me explain for 10 mins why he’s gonna be like LeBron in 2 years”
not even I could listen to the pod today. 10 minutes of KOC and Bill fellating the Cs for a single series win was enough for me
"I'm always surprised by the Kobe jerseys at the game" NBA "historian" shocked that the most beloved athlete in LA history is represented at Laker games
it’s just a veiled shot at Lebron. Him pretending he doesn’t hate him is so funny, especially when other Ringer dudes call him out
Is he? He allowed his team to be continued to be molded in the image of Marcus Smart and fell right in line. He is sorta a bitch that gets a pass for playing for a name brand franchise. Look at him whining every single play. Its like he learned to be a professional from marcus smart.
lol at bill throwing it out there that Derrick white might have been going through it because he had a kid. And Ryen just shitting on it
I don't know if that new CBA stuff was as fascinating as Bill thought it was, but it is interesting to hear some of the situations across the league and the choices teams will have to make.
They talked about the new CBA and the luxury tax rules and how the players got bent over in the new deal because it's going to break up teams and wipe out the middle class. He kept using Grant Williams as an example of it, which was pretty transparent, but in general it was an interesting discussion in terms of all the moves from the last few years that wouldn't have been allowed under this CBA.
I just assumed the whole premise of that segment was gonna be why the Lakers are screwed or why the Celtics will be in prime position with Tatum and Brown but if it’s not that then maybe I’ll check it out
Andy Staples is leaving the Athletic, and I’m curious if he is landing at The Ringer. He’s been a content machine on the podcast side for the Athletic, and it would fill a hole on the college football side for The Ringer, but just speculation on my part. Staples said on his last podcast he’d be popping up somewhere in a few weeks.
just wait till Ben Simmons heads off to college somewhere with a legit football program and Bill is on the pod talking about "I really think college football is having a moment!" after ignoring it and shitting on it for 20 years
i listened pretty late last night so i may have missed it, but i don't think they gave enough credence to the cap rising when talking about the "middle class". If the cap is $175M (and you have $200M to spend before the tax), that leaves you with a lot of extra money if you're limiting yourself to two stars at $60m/ea. The MLE is going to get up to $15m in year 1! i agreed with them about a number of things (small markets may not receive as much in luxury tax distributions, organic teams are getting screwed, etc.) but don't think we can so clearly say that things are going to be bad right now.
league would be better off if they stopped designing cbas to retroactively punish teams with no apparent thought of collateral consequences
will be all what if but but the injury instead of tatum is and always has been soft, just like the rest of the current celtics.
I'm going to need another 30 minutes to update where the Derrick White putback ranks in the pantheon of greatest Celtics' playoff plays now
Talking points will be... - This team is so frustrating that he's not even that mad he doesn't have to keep watching... - ...and he's especially not mad because he knows they were going to get killed by the Nuggets, anyway - Tatum was injured and you can just tell he had no lift because, if you've ever played basketball, you need your ankle to be healthy in order to be effective and he's actually shocked that more guys don't hurt their ankles like that in an NBA game with the number of players jumping in a mess of bodies like that all the time.
If I make fun of BS, we all laugh together (except maybe Fecta) if I make fun of Tony Khan, there are at least 2 or 3 posters who may try to hunt me down. So I went for the safer play
