The article isn't long. The 2 direct quotes he blames the players in both. He never says what you're saying.
Did he say that’s the only thing they care about or it being their top priority before doing their job?
Ahh you're going off one short article and not what he's said multiple times over the last few years.
They can read, they are just choosing to interpret things in a manner that allow for this dumb thread to continue to have dumb content
It's the same handful of posters that literally would just produce the same pile of shit posts regardless of what Saban said.
I mean, we're talking about a coach that preferred college to the NFL bc the kids listened to him more and he felt he was able to help build them more than someone making $10m a year. The game has changed and now it's all about who will pay the kid the most, not who can help them the most. That's a massive shift and one a lot of coaches wouldn't be a fan of. The coach is just an employer now. I'm glad the kids are getting paid but the current system is terrible. idk how to incorporate the old and new and keep this from being the NFL with 1 year contracts.
Real dick move that Saban renegotiated his contract in the off season, real shame. I remember hearing dozens of Bama fans lament the fact that he wanted to change the terms.
Not debatable. Suggesting otherwise is tremendously patronizing. Kids can get paid most now and develop better/faster. The NFL “promise” paid out for a relatively small number of guys.
Nick Saban has never gone to Bama leadership and boosters and demanded more money or required certain things the following year. The absolute disgusting behavior of these players
Look, I am a huge fan of Saban, and I think that he would have succeeded in the new era of CFB as well. But, what he’s complaining about is losing an advantage brought about by leverage on the players.
18 yr olds are developing in ways that aren't related to the NFL at all. Some people help develop them more than others. I don't think that's debatable. Most older players talk about ways former coaches helped them develop as a person, not how to read an RPO.
Saban's hit rate of about 8 players a year on avg is amazing but yeah thers an additional 17ish players per year it didnt work out for
idk a lot of his former players love him. That's beside the point though. He's an old coach that spent 50 years at least thinking he was helping kids and now it's turned into a shit show and kids are coming and going left and right and he can't build the relationship he once did. It shouldn't be a surprise that he'd be turned off by that.
thinking you can't do this for people without one side being unpaid interns is kind of nuts don't you agree?
Yea I like that kids get money just not like this and you know it can’t be their only priority. Signed coaches who always want as much money as possible and like having the biggest paycheck. this is all about control and working on their terms. They lose that and you know it’s just the kids and they don’t want my help anymore.
but not like this interesting it does seem fitting that him flaming out in the NFL and retiring both are chalked up to him not having unilateral power over his players
lol @ flaming out. The owner was at his house trying to get him to stay and several teams courted him while he was at Bama but let's just call it flaming out. I'd say you're better than that but yea.
Do you weirdos riding for Saban's head really like the current system? Or are you just going at Saban bc he hurt you for 20 years?
players getting money from nil and trying to get as much as possible is way down my list of complaints about college athletics.
You're acting like he was fired and had to go find a job. That's not the case. He had a job and was offered more jobs past that one. You're making yourself look dumb here.
It's very obvious that Saban didn't like the change in power dynamic from NIL. He dances around it but is basically saying as much.
Players starting to have a lot of freedom in their lives and careers and Saban/Bammers just can’t have that
Free transfer and NIL seems to be trending toward greater parity and less talent-hoarding, so yeah I like it.
Do you think there is a Dabo thread and everyone laughing at his very similar views of Saban b/c the won a few years or b/c his views are absurd especially when put up against his own financial interests/gain?
He should have just said I am 72 years old. Having to complain about how the game has changed shows how washed he really is.
Now that paying players is legal, Master Saban is mad that it is harder to keep players on his plantation so he quit. Got it.
Good thing he figured that out on his ocean front house in Jupiter, and didn’t go through another year so unhappy and washed.
