It was borderline. Would have been fine in most of the other threads but not the one for people just watching the TV show.
Yeah, I was hungover as shit and my wife and daughter were out of town. I ate the fuck out of some Chipotle and knocked out the entire season. Fantastic show.
Question, how difficult was it to keep up with what was going on in the television series since you hadn't read the books beforehand? I watched the first season after reading the first book and felt like it would have been extremely difficult to keep up with all of the names had I not read the book prior.
I watched the show before reading the books and it wasn't that bad. The only thing that I remember being confused about was Theon. For the longest time I thought he was just Robb's friend instead of a hostage. I guess I kinda zoned out while they were explaining it or something.
Yeah, I could see that. I'm pretty excited (just started the second book) that Theon is now a POV character.
There was definitely a lot to take in, but I was able to stay with it mostly. I must have missed that bit about Theon, too. Did not catch that.
I know that he is explained as a hostage, but I would characterize him as less of a hostage than in the way we normally use the term. I would say more of an insurance policy who is treated with all the decencies that a family member would be treated with.
HBO’s top executives reassured nervous critics that Game of Thrones won’t be treated like Deadwood — a serialized favorite that was cancelled without an ending. “We told [author George R.R. Martin] we’d go as long as he keeps writing,” said HBO co-president Richard Plepler. “I hope it lasts for 20 years,” says HBO programming president Michael Lombardo of the show. “I promise you we won’t stop it before it’s ready to stop … There’s a great relationship fans have with the show and we appreciate that. We’ve never seen people get so excited about casting [decisions].” One critic worried about the possibility of Thrones finishing in the middle of Martin’s saga. “Nor do we expect it to,” Plepler said. But don’t start debating who’ll play Victarion just yet — there’s some hedging to come. “I don’t know where the show ends compared to the books,” Lombardo added. “We’re doing this without any predetermined number of seasons.” The executives also addressed a big fan complaint — only doing 10 episodes per season. “The challenge on a show like Thrones is if we could do 12, we would,” said Lombardo, who noted they didn’t want fans to have to wait more than a year between seasons. “To produce those shows in the time they have, there’s no way they could physically do more than 10 than for without diluting the quality of the execution.”
finished watching the first season a few days ago, really impressed with the casting. the guy who plays tyrion is excellent and robert reminds me of my dad if he were a king. series inspired me to go out and get the books, of which i'm about 200 or so pages in GoT now. I have to say I enjoy the greater detail and inner monologues in the book as compared to the series, but I like having a face and a voice to go with the characters.
Was wondering about that, but read the book and they really didn't leave that much out. Main things they cut down were big battle/jousting scenes; which would be badass but I'd imagine would skyrocket the budget.
Ok - I'm addicted to this show, someone told me about it (not sure how I missed on TMB, and I don't have HBO), so I watched the entirety of Season 1 in about 5 days... Since the first season is over, I'm assuming I can talk about it? I'm still kinda pissed they killed off the best character, but this show is flipping amazing. Books that much better?
you only thought he was the best character, if the books are any indication, seasons 2 and 3 should be amazing...hopefully they combine books 4 and 5 and make them into two seasons as well
was Brandon any smarter or less naive? I never got that impression from the discussions of him it is too bad Joff f'd up the deal, Ned and Jon at the wall would have been some good father/bastard son bonding stories
Brandon was rash and hot-blooded, think Jaime. I don't know if he would be a very good player in the game.
i am guessing there is a reason the Starks never made it long at Kings Landing and always fared better on the Wall, not everyone wants to play the game and honor means more to them...as long as they can live with the fact that they never will have more than they have now, nothing wrong with that I guess
Been rewatching the season after finishing book 4. So much better to watch it again and catch all the little things and see all the characters in their early stages.
I've been doing the exact same thing. watch ep 5 last night, came to the realization that if Cat doesn't take Tyrion captive, Ned probably makes it out of Kings Landing alive. also had to re-live the horror of the breast feeding scene. my favorite thing upon rewatch though was the prologue. I didn't notice the tunnel and gate before.
Yeah there are so many little things that I focus on now. Like seeing Varys and Illyrio in the dungeons. Watching episode 5 right now.
I don't know. That was a decent looking tit. Granted, the head wasn't attractive, but the tit was well shaped. I would have suckled. Also, I am only 120 pages into the first book, but I'm looking forward to rewatching the series, too.
I thought the series was so underwhelming compared to the book. I also didn't like what they did with Cersei's character. Seems like they needlessly changed things with certain characters...could have done without the loras-renley scene too
after reading the first four books, it was clear to me that loras and renly are gay. idk why people earlier itt were so shocked at that scene
i started reading because of the series and have rewatched the series after reading the books...i think they did an excellent job with the series
towards the later books he became a lot more of a cunt Spoiler specially after Renly died and even more when he made the Kingsguard
Just started watching. Only two episodes in and fucking hate the Lannister's already. Love the direwolves those things are badass, fucking bullshit what happened in episode two
Football season ended for me long ago. Also i only intended to watch the first episode before kickoff(s), but unfortunately i have an addictive personality and had to continue. March cant come soon enough, i need my fix. :scratching:
