I can't tell you how little I care about this retarded suicide subplot including that incredibly minor character. This show is so predictable. Of course Grimes is a sopping pussy who wouldn't leave Shane. Of course Grimes is a sopping pussy who wouldn't leave the kid. Of course Grimes is a sopping pussy who is going to have to have some stupid conversations about what to do with the kid. Not surprisingly, had any of those things actually happened, the story would've had to move along. Now they've stagnated back on this kid THAT NOBODY FUCKING CARES ABOUT. Great, it's Sophia all over again. Also 1) if this kid knows Maggie, why the fuck wouldn't he say something earlier? He spent a fucking week at her goddamn house. 2) If Shane and Grimes are thinking about killing the kid because he knows where the farm is, why the fuck would they blindfold him again?
The problem is the creator quit after the first season and they slashed the budget. That's the main reasons it has sucked donkey balls since season 1.
I mean the last couple episodes have been a little better since at least there's some killing and shit going on.
Has there been a good explanation as to why this happened? The first season was to me, groundbreaking. I know this genre has been around a long time but the first season was something fresh and exciting. Hell, the acting was way above average! The show was lauded as the next big thing. Wouldn't you want to build on this success by throwing money at it and getting good producers/directors? Why did they decide to cut budget and make it a zombie "Days of our lives"? Also it's pretty disappointing that at this point we are happy that there has been actual violence in a show where the main subplot is a zombie apocalypse that has wiped out humanity.
I never heard the details but supposedly that was a big reason why we went so long with seeing like 1 zombie an episode. The dumb fucks thought that just zombie noises would work. I'm not sure why creator quit either.
Last season show was a 5.9 4 star rivals 100 type commodity. this season show is a 2 star with offers from FAU and SDSU
I liked it. Only thing that bugged me was the guys cutting their hands and then stabbing guys because I always thought blood getting mixed meant you were toast. Still though, best ep of the season.
Meh better than the 1st part of season 2 but still some bad parts. I could live with this though. It started out nice- when Rick and Shane were in the car and Rick was talking about planning for winter, conserve bullets / food. I was giddy with excitement that someone finally got the memo- it's a story about surviving a zombie apocalypse so let's talk about surviving a zombie apocalypse and not run around on these shitty little side missions.
Exactly. If they worried about surviving more often, the character development would come naturally. Instead, they hang out on the magic farm and stare at each other all day having the completely ridiculous arguments. I was so excited to see them out on the road looking for anything. When Grimes started talking about stocking up for winter, I couldn't help but think we're going to get a season of winter on the farm. Yay!
I've heard several ppl say this. 5 minutes good, 5 minutes zzzzz ... repeat. With DVRs, you don't have to watch the 5 minute stretches of soap opera.
Do you think they kept showing that lone zombie walking through the field while they were riding in the car to symbolize what Shane would be if he doesn't conform?
Ladies and gentlemen of the-mainboard, I present you this single .gif that sums up season 2 of The Walking Dead to date:
Wasn't there some expensive show about trains in the wild west that used to follow it? That shit looked way more expensive than Walking Dead.
Hell on Wheels. Not sure what the budget was but the single advantage that every show on AMC other than The Walking Dead has is that none of them are run/produced by AMC except for The Walking Dead. Breaking Bad is Sony, Mad Men is Lionsgate, Hell on Wheels is some Canadian company. The Walking Dead is produced/owned by AMC so the people in charge (formerly Darabont) don't really have any leverage when it comes to budget negotiations. Breaking Bad and Mad Men both recently had negotiations where there was serious concern that they might leave AMC so they got what they wanted.
I think this may have been the case- good writers / directors do things like this. Shane was looking at the guy with that weird shit cramp look on his face, I think that is what they were trying to do.
Yea this really bugged me too with and also Rick having all that blood around his mouths and eyes couldn't tell if it was his or zombie blood. But it was a pretty good episode by their standards.
I wouldn't get too caught up on this show being unrealistic. The setting is a zombie apocalypse, it's an inherently unrealistic show.
There is a difference between suspending reality for the premise of a show and suspending reality for the way people talk and act around each other. It's not impossible to have a well written show that is based in a fantasy world. Clearly, the writers haven't figured out that distinction either.
Walking Dead has somehow found a way to mix the incredibly lazy writing of Dexter with the way too melodramatic cunt side stories of Sons of Anarchy. Not exactly the elements you'd prefer they pick from said shows.
Exactly, just because there are zombies doesn't mean the writers are free from making the story and the things that happen make sense. There have been plenty of well done zombie movies etc... that make sense and are realistic within the confines of a zombie apocalypse.
So, if I wanted to read The Walking Dead, would I be buying it as on large graphic novel, or is it like a bunch of separate comics?
Get the compendium for the first 8 books and then if you can wait, the second compendium should be coming out sometime later this year. I will save you quite a bit of money. I'm retarded and bought everyone of the books separately because in my mind, it would be "neat" to have them all. Idiot.
There are a few options. I buy the hardcovers which include 12 issues. They are like $25-30 on Amazon. I think there are seven out right now. Usually two a year IIRC. There is also a compendium you can get which is issues 1-48.
Thanks. I'm reading book 4 of the Game of Thrones series. Then I'll read book five, but after that I may buy the first compendium, then hopefully the second would be out by the time I'm done with that.
Yea, I don't get in what way the suicide plot-line could advance the story except Spoiler had she killed herself and returned as a zombie, in fact I was hoping for this when she locked herself in the bathroom The other thing that annoyed me was how easily the tied up dude was able to run around out there, just a week or so after having a fence impale his lower leg. Makes so much sense writers.
yea, slicing yourself open with knives that have been used to kill zombies seems like such a great idea I guess at this point the writers feel that whoever is still watching the show either doesn't care about this kind of stuff, or is only watching to bitch about these things.
You will be done with the first compendium very quickly. You'll also probably feel a strong urge to not wait for the second compendium once you finish. Hardcore, to say the least.
Not only impaling it on a fence post, but the impalement was so bad that amputation was the first option. If it can heal in under in a year or two I think amputation is a bad idea, if it can heal in a week then yeah they're just fucking retarded and not even trying anymore. I wish I could get hired as a writer- just show up throw some shit on the paper whether it makes sense, fits the story, or anything then call it a day and head home.
Well, I've got about 400 pages left in A Feast for Crow, then A Dance with Dragons is over 1500 pages, I think; so I have a bit of reading to do before I will even be starting the first compendium.
I think a better show might be a hypothetical zombie apocalypse where you drop 10 people into an area like The Colony with paintball guns and other "fake" weaponry, cast about 500 extras, and see how they'd survive certain zombie ambushes.
Speaking of which http://videogum.com/481121/the-walking-dead-s02e10-two-tickets-to-the-knife-show/tv/recaps/
Maybe they are just setting us up so when Lori dies it will be that much sweeter. I can't think of a female character I have hated more than Lori.
I can't believe so many people on here watch this show if it makes them so miserable. I know the show is far from perfect but we knew this was coming when Frank quit over budget/writing issues. I still really enjoy the show and it's better than 99% of the garbage out there.
You have shitty taste, unless you are saying that among the garbage it is better than 99%, but even that is a stretch.
Wow, I'm so glad you're an OSU fan. Better than 99% of what's out there? Is your television permanently suck on The View or something?
I want Lori to die. She is the worst television character in history followed closely by Rick, Carl, and Dale.
I am getting ripped so I need I clarify here. I meant that it is still better than all the garbage out there, not all the good tv. Sunday nights are pretty weak right now with the shows that are in between seasons and no football. I was far from saying it is a great show but I still enjoy it over what else is on.
