I've wanted to go out there but it's a hike for us, hence my excitement about possibly going into the Il Desco spot.
I’m real excited if he’s putting in a place where il desco was. I’ve been meaning to check out his places at the beach but like you that’s a long haul for me.
I have a good friend moving to Jacksonville soon that knows nothing about it. What is a good area for a single 25 year old male to live? Any specific apartments to look into?
dbl's answer is the right one. Which he chooses is really based on his personality/hobbies/habits. Jacksonville's most eligible doctor, killrbee7 , can speak to the perks of living in the beaches area currently. I'm not sure if we have a local, single hipster to speak on the joys of Riverside.
Thanks for the help guys. I'm pretty unfamiliar with the area. When you say "beach area" you mean the Atlantic beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville beach, that area right?
Gonna be rent. He's going to be completely new to the city, so he's mainly looking for a cool area to live, things to do, good night life, etc.
You don't have to be ON the beach. When people in Jax say "beaches area" it's a pretty broad term. Anywhere on this map wouldn't be bad at all. From San Pablo eat to the ocean would be preferably but it's more expensive the more east you go. Neptune Beach is solid as well. Once you get up to Atlantic Beach there's not a ton going on.
I'll take there and Gumbo Yaya's over anywhere in the city. Just fits my style and what I like perfectly.
Forgot about V's. It's up there too. We go to the one in Mandarin once a month or so with friends. The pizza is damn good and the wings are outstanding.
Love the wings. My favorite wings of anywhere. I want to purchase the chili oil they use. We go there too bc we have friends that live off of julington Creek. We tried the beaches too, but it was more younger people and bar like.
Gumbo Yaya's is on Beach at San Pablo. It shows on the map above, probably bc of my search history. The couple that own it moved here from NOLA after Katrina. I lived in NOLA for 3 years and call tell you it's legit just like you're eating in NOLA. They have their bread shipped in a couple times a week from the bakery in NOLA that makes the bread for all the restaurants there. It's hard to explain but it's crispy/flakey on the outside but it's soft as white bread on the inside. Get a po-boy with a side of hald seafood and half sausage gumbo and thank me later. They do seafood boils on the weekend and have crawfish when they are in season. In all my travels that's the best NOLA restaurant I've been to outside of NOLA. St Mary's is on Old St Augustine at 295. It's more of a fried seafood platter type place.
Yaya's sells the NOLA bread too. It's like $3 for a 3 foot loaf. We get 6-8 at a time and put them in the freezer so we have good bread for dinners. Pop it in the oven for 4-5 minutes and you have the best bread known to man.
She doesn't like much. She very anti anything different. She said had she know Vs pizza uses water buffalo mozzarella she wouldn't have ate it. She loves vs because of the mozzarella they use. I love her and hate her
We went to Salt Life the other day(my niece likes the place) and holy shit they’ve raised their prices again. It’s absurd. The food isn’t terrible but damn I’ll never go back
Never been there. Is it related to the Salt Life hats, shirts, and stickers? I've purposefully never gone there bc I assumed it was.
We went there after the beach on Sunday, the one in Jax Beach. It was really expensive for the food that was just ok
That place is awful. I consider the “beaches” anything east of the IWW. Wish I made it out there more but don’t.
I didn't say the whole map was "beaches", just that a 25 year old single guy would be fine anywhere on that map.
