Dennny's (Boxer) going to be 8 years old in a couple of months He's graying up p good on his ears/snout
Are you sure he's not watching the coitus that is taking place between the neighbors house and yours? Could they have legally put your neighbor any closer to you? Are those Christmas lights?
they're not as close at the picture makes it look. And, ours ends well past theirs, so you can't see their house from our deck unless you look back the angle he is there. Yes, those are Christmas lights.
Last chance for anyone interested in Duke, he is here in Florida for another week and then will be heading to Maine for good. Let me know if you are interested, I can help grease the wheels for y'all
You can do it! I will tell you the truth, they don't get any more pure Lab looking in rescue than him, he's the best I've seen in 3 years of looking. I forget where you are but I can help with transportation to get him to you if it gets to that point. If you put in an app, we just call your vet to make sure your current ones are up to date and being cared for (I have no doubt but that's the procedure) and we do a house check, which could just be a Skype call with you walking around the house and showing it to me.
Awesome. I can get you a few others, and I'm trying to get a new one from today. That one is about a month old.
Yesterday was my first adoption event with Pixel that I essentially planned and drove through to execution by myself. Had several people help and bring dogs and what not on the day of, but I put it together. Had two adoptions on the spot, will likely get a third application for another dog that was there, and a bunch of interest from potential adopters and fosters. Plus we get to show off the dogs and tell people about what we do. No better feeling in the world than seeing a person or family meet their new best friend for the first time and take them home an hour later.
Understood man. His foster mom tells me he has webbed toes like a Lab, and is starting to get a little brown on his neck. Sounds very similar to my Scarlet, who is Lab mixed with Belgian or Dutch Shepherd.
Connor brought a bird in last week when I was in the bathroom. He was kind enough to just bring me the wings.
Chloe has started tracking down snakes in our yard. Like actively searching for them and alerting me to their presence. I've killed several now, just hope she doesn't get bit before I've gotten them all.
Mostly rat snakes, which I was letting go. But a few days ago it was a timber rattlesnake so I've been going scorched earth on them since.
update on this little dude, from the rescue owner... Prayers appreciated, Dog Crew Fam. A quick update on Owen Hippo. The news is not good. He had his ultrasound today. Not only could they not locate a shunt, they could not locate his portal hepatic vein either (the vessel that takes blood to the liver that a shunt bypasses). As I understand the explanation from Dr. David, he will go to UF for a contrast study to see if there is any hope. If not, he will, unfortunately, die young. So....now is the time to call in all your celestial favors. Right now.
Make sure you bury the head if you kill the rattler. It still holds venom and is very dangerous if something finds it. Also don't pointlessly kill rat snakes, tks
Took Flash (our 11 month old) to get fixed and get her cherry eyes fixed. Got a call back because she is in heat so I have to wait a month. Then the vet fat shamed my girl. Told me she is a little overweight and needs to lose a few before the operation. I take her on a little over a mile walk every day. She is just big boned.
First post, better make it a good one. Wife and I are going to be purchasing a dog in the next few months and wondered if anyone had any recommendations or advice. I want a bigger dog (over 50 lbs) and basically have it narrowed down between German Shepherd and Golden Retriever (Risky, I know. I was in the firm no dog camp for the last few years, so this is a big step for me.) Anyone have any other breeds or suggestions? (sorry if this has been asked several times over, I didn't read through many pages). I've come to terms with the shedding, we live in a decent sized house with a decent yard, but live in a very "walkable" area with several bike paths, dog parks, beach, etc all close. I actually think it would help a lot with the wife I and becoming more active, walking it every day, etc. I don't mind paying more for one that comes from an established breeder. I've read certain types of Shepherd have increased risk of hip dysplasia, etc and paying more upfront to (possibly) reduce vet bills later is fine by me. We had a golden retriever growing up and bought her from a good breeder and she never had any serious health problems till the end. In my head, that stuff makes a little difference, who knows though. We have several friends that have positive things to say about both breeds and really haven't found much to dissuade me from anything. Any other general thoughts or suggestions?
If you want to buy a dog, that's fine, but if you're set on a specific breed maybe try to find a rescue organization that rescues the breed you're looking for. Just think about rescuing as there are already a ton of dogs waiting for homes. Also know that golden retrievers are very high energy and will need a lot of exercise and attention to keep content. A tired dog is a good dog.
First, where do you live? Second, please please please try to rescue before you buy. I understand certain people want certain things from a dog, and a breeder is at times the only option. But I work very closely with a rescue organization and I can't tell you how many amazing pups are out there to be had at rescue. If you have your heart set on a specific breed, as Open Carry said please check with breed specific rescues in your home state. I promise you they exist. You did they right thing by asking here for general knowledge, a lot of folks here know a ton about all aspects of dog life. In terms of general advice, a tired dog is always a good dog, set a schedule and stick with it, show the dog that you are the boss to help keep them from any negative behaviors. That's a great start right there, and you will feel your way through the rest. But seriously, please try to rescue before you do anything else. PM me if you have any questions, or just ask, anyone in here will be glad to help.
Just for an example of what i mean about being able to find great dogs in rescue, we just pulled these Shephard mix puppies from the kill shelter a few days ago - And as for breeders, I know you would use a good reputable breeder, but there are many people not as conscientious as you, and backyard breeding is a scourge. A shelter in Georgia broke up a backyard breeding ring last weekend, we got two of the moms, never been groomed or cared for, just used as baby factories. So matted it was cutting off the circulation in their legs. here's one of them: Before - After:
That makes me sad. Jesus I hate people. I wrestled with rescuing but I made my choice I hope you guys don't hate me for buying not rescuing. Just know mine are parts of the family and I would never breed them.
